Darkwing Duck
Darkwing Duck is the superhero alter ego of Drake Mallard, a mild-mannered single father. In the early ’90s, Darkwing Duck was a popular kids TV show, with a catchy theme song. You can rule the night by imitating Darkwing’s signature purple outfit including a wide brimmed hat and identity conceling mask.
Geralt from Netflix’s The Witcher
Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) is the main protagonist of Netflix’s The Witcher series based on the popular books and video games. As a Witcher, Geralt spends much of his time slaying monsters and being paid to do so by desperate and terrified people. Geralt’s clothing is black and often made of leather. His armor is designed to help protect him from the monstrous forces of evil (and occasional brazen human) he faces regularly.
Sister Night from HBO’s Watchmen
In HBO’s Watchmen, Detective Angela Abar (played by Regina King) dons a mask to become Sister Night in order to help maintain law and order in the City of Tulsa. Having vowed revenge against the Seventh Kavalry for the death of her partner and his wife, Angela is a skilled martial artist and exceptional detective. Sister Night’s costume keeps Angela’s identity hidden and her family safe from criminals. A long overcoat, rosary beads, and face mask help transform Angela into her vengeful alter ego.
Nico Robin’s White Cowboy Outfit from One Piece
In One Piece, Nico Robin is the Straw Hat Pirates’ archaeologist and the only person left in the world capable of reading Penoglyphs. She is also the only surviving resident of the island of Ohara. Nico is tall and slender with mid-length black hair and revealing clothing.
Hugh “Ransom” Drysdale from Knives Out
Hugh “Ransom” Drysdale (played by Chris Evans) is considered spoiled even by his own family’s standards. An unmotivated playboy, he befriends Marta Cabrera only to reveal that he has his own ulterior motives for doing so. The most memorable pieces of Ransom’s outfit are his cozy wool sweater and bold patterned scarf.
Marta Cabrera from Knives Out
Marta Cabrera (played by Ana de Armas) is Harlan Thrombey’s caretaker and friend. Marta is dressed to face the chilly New England weather, with plenty of layers and a colorful handmade scarf. The most important piece of her wardrobe, however, may be her pristine white shoes, which tell their own story as the movie unfolds.
Detective Benoit Blanc from Knives Out
Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) is a private detective with a deep Louisiana drawl who is hired to investigate the mysterious death of Harlan Thrombey. A true Southern gentleman, he wears crisply tailored suits accented by floral ties and handsome pocket squares. When he is deep in the throes of interrogating a victim or solving a crime, he has been known to ditch the suit jacket, roll up his sleeves, and tuck his tie into his shirt so that it doesn’t get in the way. A doughnut would make an excellent addition as an edible accessory to Blanc’s ensemble.
Rosie Betzler from Jojo Rabbit
Rosie Betzler (played by Scarlett Johansson) is a single mother raising her son in Nazi Germany while her husband is away at war. Secretly anti-Nazi, Rosie hides her late daughter’s Jewish classmate in her attic while her son Johannes (“Jojo”) attends a Hitler Youth training camp. Rosie wears an array of fashionable vintage clothing, so there are many ways to recreate her look. Some of the staples of 1940’s fashion include high-waist trousers, cropped sweaters, and red lipstick. When it is not possible to find an exact replica of a specific outfit, layering different pieces can often evoke a similar effect.
Frank West from Dead Rising 1
When Frank West is first introduced in Dead Rising 1, he is a determined and unpredictable photojournalist always on the lookout for the next big (and likely dangerous) scoop. Once he is thrown into the zombie infected town of Wilamette on assignment, he begins to uncover a sinister government cover up and becomes embroiled in it himself. Frank’s outfit is sensible, making it easy to run and fight his way out of Wilamette when necessary. If you do not already own a high-quality camera like the one Frank uses, a simple phone case made to look like one can lend the same aesthetic.
Police Officer from HBO’s Watchmen
In HBO’s Watchmen, officers of the Tulsa P.D. must hide their identities from the Seventh Kavalry and other terrorist organizations. The standard uniforn not only protects their families; it also creates a rather intimidating picture. With a yellow face mask, heavy duty boots, and cable ties for restraining the bad guys, they are always ready to serve and protect.
