Queen Elinor from Brave

Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) is a main character in the 2012 Disney Pixar animated movie, Brave. She shares the throne with her husband, King Fergus, as the monarchs of DunBroch, a Scottish kingdom. Whereas her daughter Merida is independent and free-spirited, her mother is the epitome of sternness, poise, and tradition. So when her daughter wants to shoot for her own hand, Elinor is outraged, as she believes it’s her duty as a princess to continue the royal line. She throws the bow into the fireplace out of anger, and Merida runs off crying. When she returns, she gives her mother a cake as a peace offering, but it accidentally turns her into a giant black bear! Together they try to break the curse, and ultimately  Elinor softens towards her daughter, becoming more thoughtful and understanding.

Penny from Papa Louie

Penny is an employee at Papa’s Freezeria in the mobile game Papa Louie.  She first appears in When Pizza Attacks!  Penny’s outfit is purple and white, with a purple flower hairclip and a white tunic with purple flowers along the bottom hem.  To recreate her look, you can simply look for a tank top with similar color scheme, or make your own by using a white flowy tank top and adding your own flowers to it.

Antiope from Wonder Woman

Antiope from Wonder Woman

Most people know Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup from the movie The Princess Bride. In 2017’s Wonder Woman audiences discovered that Buttercup had transformed into the mighty Antiope. Sister to Queen Hippolyta and aunt to the fearsome Diana, Antiope is the beloved general of the Amazonian warriors. Her own sister calls her the greatest warrior their people have ever known. And without her Wonder Woman would never have become the hero she is today.

Unfortunately it’s hard to get Antiope’s armor without spending a large chunk of change. Leather armor is pricy and there are many distinct and custom pieces to this costume. There are, however, a few pieces you can use to get close and recreate her look pretty closely without making a huge investment. This will let you upgrade your costume over time if you find yourself reaching for your Antiope costume pretty regularly.

One piece – Antiope’s helm or crown – comes from Etsy and is custom made. It is fairly pricy for a single piece. But it is one of her most iconic pieces and well worth the investment.

You’ll want a long blonde wig to wear as well, given that Robin Wright wore her signature blonde hair long for the role. A Roman base costume gives you the general look of Amazon body armor which you can then add leather wrist bracers, a leather shoulder guard, and dark brown leather boots too. Wielding an Amazon sword and a couple of costume daggers, you’re ready to lead your sister Amazons into battle!

Peggy Cleary from The Kids Are Alright

Peggy Cleary is the practical, loving mother every sitcom needs. Especially one featuring eight boys living the “out until the street lights come on” life of the 1970s. Played by Mary McCormack she is a take-no-nonsense woman who is here to make sure that the kids really are alright.

Peggy’s hair is a classic look you can either style your hair into or recreate using the wig listed above. With that signature piece taken care of, the rest of her look is fairly easy to replicate. You need a comfortable and practical house dress, a thin leather belt to go over the top, and a pair of low heels to match.

Olivia and The Whatnot Girl from Disjointed

Olivia and The Whatnot Girl from Disjointed

Olivia (played by Elizabeth Alderfer) is a transplant to southern California from rural Iowa. She quickly gets swept up in the business of legal marijuana when her grandma’s fudge cookies turn out to be delicious when turned into edibles! It causes some problems with her and Travis – a one-time love interest who quickly becomes her best friend – but everything turns out alright by the end.

Olivia is put together but in a casual way. She wears her long hair down and opts for long-sleeve shirts, skinny jeans, and boots. But Olivia has a dark secret – she is The Whatnot Girl. An unfortunate meme, she made for a great Halloween costume for Jenny. And she’ll be a great cosplay for you! A pink bra under a camo tank top starts off the look. Then add in some jelly bracelets, shorts, and boots. Finally clip some blonde highlights into the wig and put in some feather earrings. Don’t forget your eyeliner! And, of course, some tooth blackout and the use of her favorite word: Whatnot!

jane romero from dead by daylight

Jane Romero from Dead by Daylight

Cataleya Restrepo from Colombiana

Cataleya Restrepo from Colombiana

Cataleya Restrepo (played to perfection by Zoe Saldana) knew her life’s path from a young age. When her father’s employer ordered a hit on her family, only Cataleya made it out alive. The little girl – who once dreamed of being Xena, Warrior Princess – dedicated her life instead to ending the people who took her family from her.

Her line of work means that she has a wide wardrobe. Whatever it takes to get the job done.

The first outfit we see her in is a party dress, black bra, short wig, and gold heels with red bottoms. Red-bottomed shoes tend to be expensive however so you’ll have to DIY your own with some standard gold stilettos and red acrylic paint. It’s a cover, of course. And as soon as she’s alone she strips off the dress and puts on a black catsuit she concealed in her dress in order to assassinate a target housed in another part of the police precinct she was brought to.

A second outfit is a black bathing suit with sleeves, allowing her to swim more easily through a very large tank housing two sharks. A long dark with tied back in a bun is the only other piece you will need for this costume along with invisible shoes such as those in this tutorial.

When she is dressed as herself, though, Cataleya opts for highly detailed black leather jackets, skinny jeans, heeled ankle boots, and comfortable flowing tees. She typically wears her hair down which you can recreate with a long, dark wig styled with waves. Her guns are not easy to see in these outfits, so a shoulder holster is most likely what she uses since she keeps her jackets closely fitted.

Circe from DC Comics

Circe

Circe first appeared in 1949 as one of Wonder Woman’s antagonists. As an immortal sorceress she’s a little hard to beat. Thankfully the good guys manage it every time. And I do mean every time. Like a good villain Circe makes repeat appearances, often changing in appearance but consistent in her evil.

This version of Circe might not be the first form she took but it is one of the most popular for cosplays. It gets back to the Greek roots of the character. She was adapted from one of the villains in Homer’s The Odyssey and you definitely get the vibe of an ancient Grecian island witch with this version of Circe.

The first thing you’ll need is a long black wig. Circe’s hair color changes with every iteration of her character but this time her hair is jet black. As an added bonus you can also use this wig for a Morticia Addams cosplay if you’re going to a multi-day convention!

Once you have your wig you’ll need a green dress in a very tight but flowing style. After that you’ll need a whole lot of gold accessories: bangles, a belt, a chalice, and an arm band. Skin tone skippers give you something close to a barefoot look. If that’s not quite your style or you can’t find a slipper in the right shade you can make a pair of invisible shoes like these.

Stella from Winx Club

Stella from Winx Club

Stella (voiced by Amy Gross in the English versions and Perla Liberatori in the Italian versions) is one of the six core members of the Winx club. She is also the Fairy of Sun and the princess of her home planet Solaria. Her fiance Brandon is a student at the Red Fountain school where he trains in weapons combat to balance Stella’s magical abilities.

If you like the color orange then cosplaying as Stella is perfect for you. From an orange cold shoulder top to an orange skirt and orange boots it is her favorite color. She even wears orange earrings. Stella’s only other color is a silver head band, a set of silver gauntlets, her white wings, and her long blonde hair.
