Women

Evelyn Wang from Everything Everywhere All at Once

Evelyn Wang (played by Michelle Yeoh) is the main character of the action-comedy film Everything Everywhere All at Once.  Evelyn is the mother of Joy and wife of Waymond.  Their family struggles to keep their laundromat afloat and while at a meeting with Deirdre Beaubeirdra, Evelyn is brought into a conflict against good and evil that spans multiple versions of the reality in which she exists.  Evelyn wears multiple costumes throughout the multiverse (and the film), but her main outfit consists of a zip-up vest and floral print shirt, sweatpants, and maroon sneakers.  During a pivotal moment in the film, she adheres a googly eye to the middle of her forehead.

Missy Cooper from Young Sheldon

Melissa “Missy” Cooper (played by Raegan Revord) is the fraternal twin sister of Sheldon Cooper on the TV series Young Sheldon.  The polar opposite of her twin brother, Missy is utterly disinterested in schoolwork and often feels jealous of her brother and the attention he receives from their mother Mary.  Missy’s style varies throughout the series, but often lingers on the more tomboy-ish side of things, especially when she discovers she has a talent for baseball.  She also often dons overalls, especially in her younger days, if you find yourself more in the mood for shorts than a pinafore dress.

Diane from Lumberjanes

Diane from Lumberjanes

Diane (also known as Artemis in some circles) used to be one of the Lumberjanes’ enemy. She eventually saw the light, however, and now she’s firmly on the Lumberjanes’ side.

In addition to being an incredibly powerful goddess, Diane is also a great closet cosplay. A black wig is really the only piece that might be considered costume-specific but it’s also a versatile item that can match many different cosplays. Gold hoop earrings and bracelets as well as a purple headband serve as Diane’s accents while her outfit consists of a purple shirt, a tan vest, tan cargo shorts, white socks, and hiking boots.

Zarya Moonwolf from Mysticons

Zarya Moonwolf from Mysticons

Zarya Moonwolf (voiced by Nicki Burke) can be as tough as they come. But when it comes to her friends, she is nothing by loyalty and love. Which is why it’s a good idea not to cross them. Or her. You might end up on the wrong end of a Mysticon Ranger’s bow!

Cosplaying Zarya takes a little bit of patience and a fairly steady painting hand. Her blue hair can be copied with a wig while boot toppers and gauntlet gloves come close to her look. To get her top, however, you’ll need a light blue shirt as well as dark blue, white, and gold fabric paint. The paint serves to add in the various designs of her shirt as well as the main portion of her belt. The same paint decorates dark blue leggings to resemble her pants and the cuffs of the gauntlet gloves.

Link’s bow is a close second to Zarya’s in general shape and some paint adds in the proper details. Spray paint it dark blue, then go back in with light blue acrylic paint and highlight the details. A light blue cape finishes the look once its edges are properly tattered.

circus baby from fnaf sister location

Circus Baby from Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location

Circus Baby is the primary antagonist of the horror game Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location.  Circus Baby is a doll-like animatronic that houses the soul of Elizabeth Afton.  She has red hair pulled into pigtails and wears a two-piece red outfit with matching red jester shoes.  When recreating this look, you can opt to buy the full-face Circus Baby mask, or choose to paint your face and wear a red pigtail wig instead.  Either way, you’ll want to layer your dress and crop top over a white undersuit to replicate the pale white of Circus Baby’s body.  For an extra effect, you can take some time to add the animatronic seam details with fabric markers.  Last but not least, you could glue or sew gold bells to the tips of your jester shoes so your victims can hear you coming.

Anna Kone from Pen15

Anna Kone from Pen15

It’s the year 2000. In Hulu’s cringe comedy Pen15, Anna Kone and Maya Ishii-Peters are two best friends navigating the trials of seventh grade at the turn of the 21st century. At the core of the show’s hilarity is the fact that actresses Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine are real-life best friends in their 30s, portraying fictionalized versions of their former selves while surrounded by a cast of actual 13-year-olds. Anna (or ‘Na!!!!’ according to Maya) is a lanky tween with a heart of gold and a mouth of metal. Like most middle schoolers, she is swayed easily by her peers. In the iconic garage scene of S1 E2, Anna dresses to impress in true Y2K fashion with choker necklace, teeny tiny purse, low-rise camo, and a generous display of midriff.

trina-bighero6-character

Trina from Big Hero 6

Trina is a character in Big Hero 6: The Series, the animated television spinoff of the Pixar movie. On the outside, she appears to be a normal teenage girl who befriends Hiro Hamada. However, she’s really an android controlled by the malevolent Okabe, gathering intel on Hiro to orchestrate the perfect crime. She is voiced by Christy Carlson-Romano, who also starred in Even Stevens.

At the core of the show’s hilarity are 30-year-old actresses Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle portraying fictionalized versions of their former selves while surrounded by a cast of actual 13-year-olds. Like most teens, Maya Ishii-Peters lacks self-awareness; but that’s what makes her perfectly endearing and oddly amusing. In the iconic garage scene of S1 E2, Maya dresses to impress in true Y2K fashion with layered choker necklaces, an embroidered tank, low-rise khakis, and a large plaid shirt (which most likely came from dad’s closet).
