Carbon Costume

Katie Mitchell (voiced by Abbi Jacobson) is the main protagonist of the Sony Pictures Animation film The Mitchells vs. the Machines.  Katie is quirky and creative, and a film student in college.  Katie wears distressed jeans and shoes embellished with markered details.  To have some fun with her look, be sure to add little details to your own clothes (and hands!) like Katie does in the movie.

In Army of the Dead and the prequel Army of Thieves, Ludwig Dieter (played by Matthias Schweighöfer) is a German safecracker who acts nervous but has unmatched skills. He’s hired to recover $200 million in Las Vegas, which at this point is overrun with zombies. Ludwig’s original name is Sebastian Schlencht-Wöhnert, but as a child he drew a comic book about a world-class safecracker named Ludwig Dieter, and eventually adopted the name for himself. Besides the clothing and Casio calculator watch, make sure you style your hair to match his curly golden locks.

Grace Sampson (played by Leslie Bibb) is also known as the superhero Lady Liberty in the Netflix series Jupiter’s Legacy.  Grace is a powerful superhero in her own right, fighting alongside her husband Sheldon and son Brandon, though her daughter Chloe has chosen a life outside the realm of heroism.  Lady Liberty’s costume consists of a blue and teal bodysuit with white gloves and boots.  A high collar helps set her cape apart from many other superhero looks, and though it might not be possible to find her exact gold hardware, a bib necklace worn over the cape’s collar can help recreate the appearance of Lady Liberty’s signature winged crest.

Brandon Sampson (played by Andrew Horton) is the son of Sheldon and Grace Sampson in the Netflix series Jupiter’s Legacy.  Unlike his sister Chloe, Brandon has not shied away from the family business.  Though as the superhero Paragon, Brandon often struggles to live up to the ideals and legacy of his super-powered parents.  Paragon’s costume is blue, white, and red.  Thought it’s tough to find a red cape with a white lining, you could always purchase two capes in the correct colors and wear them together.  If you have time and are feeling particularly crafty, some grey fabric paint can add the finer details to his suit.

Sheldon Sampson (played by Josh Duhamel), also known by his superhero moniker The Utopian, is a main character in the Netflix series Jupiter’s Legacy, based on the graphic novels of the same name.  At more than 100 years old, Sheldon feels out of touch with the current world, and even his own family.  Sheldon is married to Grace and they have two children, Brandon and Chloe.  The Utopian’s uniform consists of a white body suit with red cape and boots, as well as some gold details.  You can purchase a single bodysuit with these attributes, or if you’re more into building your own costume, you can assemble the pieces and put your DIY skills to good use by painting the Utopian’s chest piece with fabric paint.

Beverly Keane (played by Samantha Sloyan) is an extremely devout parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in the Netflix mini series Midnight Mass.  Bev is an influential figure in the small community of Crockett Island, and her judgmental nature shines through as she bullies her way over Sheriff Omar Hassan and Erin Greene in meetings and supports Father Paul in his crusade to convert her neighbors back to faith.  Bev sports long auburn hair always pulled back into a braid and is never without her silver crucifix necklace.  She wears several conservative outfits throughout the course of the series, including a mid-calf floral dress with a beige cardigan during the Crock Pot Luck.  Her most iconic outfit, though, might be the simple white cassock she wears when performing her duties in church, though the garment receives some suspicious red stains by the finale.

Ali Abdul (Anupam Tripathi) is a character in the Netflix Southern Korean survival drama, Squid Game. He is Player 199. Ali moved to South Korea from Pakistan with his wife and infant son, and he worked at a migrant factory prior to entering the games. Well-intentioned and gracious, Ali is friendly towards Seong Gi-hun and Cho Sang-woo. Unfortunately, Sang-woo tricks him in the marble game, which shows people will take advantage of the nice ones, especially in a game of survival.

After the horrific experiences of Squid Game, Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-Jae) is transformed both mentally and physically from when he was wearing his green tracksuit. Outwardly, his appearance juxtaposes an expensive tailored suit with a bright red dye job. Does the red hair symbolize that Gi-Hun is embracing his iconoclastic personality? Or the blood on his hands as well as the hands of the game organizers? Time will tell…
