Ariana Grande from ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ Music Video
Ariana recently came out with a brand-new song and music video called “We Can’t Be Friends”, and fans have been raving about all the references in it, including her costumes. Part of the video references the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Throughout the video she is erasing her memories of a previous relationship from her mind. One of the coats she wears, a denim long jacket with fur lining, is the same one worn in the original film by Kate Winslet who plays Clementine.
To dress like Ariana in this video, wear a denim jacket with fur lining, denim pleated skirt, and gray shirt with a cut-out neckline. This can be created by wearing a v-neck gray top, or taking a scoop neck gray shirt and cutting a triangle right under the neckline. For the V-Neck shirt, you also could cut a strip from the bottom of the shirt and sew/ attach it back at the neckline. She also has a pink streak in her hair and white eye makeup which can be done with a white eye-pencil or liner.

One look that would be great to recreate is from her music video for one of her breakout songs Pink Pony Club. To create this look, wear an embellished denim jacket and either glue or sew on more metallic fringe and trims. Olivia Rodrigo is a pop singer/songwriter of today’s music scene. Her two full length albums are Sour and Guts. One of the standout tracks on Sour is “Good 4 U” – a song about how a lover is seeing a new girl without any consideration for how Olivia feels. The music video features Olivia setting a room on fire and also as a cheerleader, blending preppy and punk aesthetics. The video has nearly 450 million views on Youtube and the song has over 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Ashnikko, or Ashton Nicole Casey, is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper. Her debut mixtape Demidevil is a mix of electronic pop, hip-hop, and alternative with a feminist edge to her lyrics. Several of their songs have gone viral on Tiktok, such as “Daisy” and “Stupid” with Baby Tate. Her flirtatious song “Slumber Party” featuring Princess Nokia was featured in the first episode of Netflix’s First Kill. Ashnikko uses she/they pronouns and is known for their Tokyo-street inspired fashion.

The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) is a Canadian singer and record producer. His main genres include R&B, pop, and alternative. His electronic sound and falsetto voice has inspired modern R&B. His hit single “Blinding Lights” appears on his latest album, After Hours. It’s a music video full of fast cars, sick reverb, – and you guessed it, blinding lights — with nearly 285 million views on Youtube.

Her song “Positions”, which is also the title of her new album, has over 200 million listens on Spotify. The music video, which features Ariana quite literally “switching the positions” as the president and posing around the White House, garnered 108 million views on Youtube. These are only two of her 60s-era Jackie Kennedy inspired outfits from the video. Others include a vintage houndstooth winter-coat and a yellow blazer with a matching yellow miniskirt.
