Scar from The Lion King
Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons) is the main antagonist of the classic Disney film The Lion King. Scar is the brother of Mufasa, the ruling king, who seeks to take power from his brother and nephew in this animal twist on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Scar is lankier than his brother, with a dark mane and a scar over his left eye. There are two ways you could approach this costume. First, you could purchase a Scar mask and pair it with the lower portion of another lion costume if you’d like to go for a literal interpretation of the character. Otherwise, don’t be afraid to get creative with a wild black wig, some scar putty, and dangerously long nails for a more interpretive take on this iconic villain.
Rita Malone from Flushed Away
Rita Malone (voiced by Kate Winslet) is an adventurous rat in the Dreamworks film Flushed Away. The polar opposite of Roddy St. James, Rita is adventurous and brave, not afraid to take risks or speak her mind. Rita has long red hair and wears a green sweater paired with pants printed with the UK flag. To recreate the appearance of a rat, you may have to mix and match pieces from different accessory sets. The most realistic way to get the look is to use a prosthetic nose with a little spirit gum to hold it in place.
Kronk
Kronk (voiced by Patrick Warburton) is a supporting character in the Disney animated movie, Emperor’s New Groove, and the main character in its sequel, Kronk’s New Groove. He is Yzma’s bumbling yet loveable henchman. What Kronk lacks in brains, he makes up for in brawn — and culinary skills, as indicated by his homemade spinach puffs. Despite working for Yzma, he is a genuinely kind person. While this is an easy DIY costume, we provided a ready made option as well.
Félix Madrigal from Encanto
In Encanto, Félix (voiced by Mauro Castillo) is the fun-loving husband of Pepa Madrigal, which makes him the tío or uncle to Mirabel. Although he doesn’t have any magical gifts, Félix has a special ability to keep his wife’s emotions in check, which in turn keeps the weather of Colombia in check. You can use red satin ribbon to embellish down the shirt.
Bex from Assassination Nation
Bex Warren (played by Hari Nef) is one of the main characters in the satire film Assassination Nation. Bex is best friends with Lily, Em, and Sarah. As a transgender teen, Bex faces discrimination from some of her fellow students, which turns deadly after a hacker leaks important secrets about the residents of her hometown Salem. One of Bex’s best looks from the film is the one she wears after the town descends into violence, which includes a red leather jacket that matches her friends’. She also dons cropped black jeans and a multicolor striped crop top. Finding an exact match for the top might not be possible, so don’t be afraid to focus on either similar colors or vertical stripes if you can’t get both in the same piece. Similarly, a plain red trench coat can be substituted for an exact match, which might be kinder to your costume budget.
Dudley Dursley from The Order of the Phoenix
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Dudley Dursley (Harry Melling) and his gang torment his cousin Harry Potter on the playground. Dudley taunts Harry, asking him “Where is your mum, Potter? She dead? Is she dead?” In this scene, Dudley is dressed is casual athletic gear, as opposed to the formal attire of his Smeltings Academy uniform.
Em From Assassination Nation
Em Lacey (played by Abra) is one of the main characters in the satirical film Assassination Nation. Em is sisters with Sarah and best friends with Lily and Bex. Alongside her friends, Em eventually takes up arms against other residents of her hometown when someone begins exposing secrets after hacking personal social media and cellphones. Em and her friends wear matching red trench coats. Underneath, Em dons a checkered skirt and animal print croptop. In addition to a pistol, Em also uses dual ninja swords as weapons in the film.
Draco Malfoy in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”
Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) is the antagonist of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He is the son of pureblood wizards Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, and a first-year student at Hogwarts. The Sorting Hat places him in Slytherin. Draco bullies Ron and Hermione, thinking himself better than them. He extends friendship to Harry Potter, who declines, for he doesn’t like his pompous arrogance. This begins their well-known rivalry. In contrast to his power-hungry cruelty, Draco is actually quite a coward, as he’s known to whine: “Wait until my father hears about this!” Use hair gel to slick the wig or your own back.
