Men
The Deathslinger from Dead by Daylight
Caleb Quinn was an Irish-American engineer turned prisoner after he nearly killed his boss for stealing his inventions and selling them to other companies for a profit. Caleb struck a deal with the prison warden to fill the Hellshire Penitentiary, he fashioned a speargun that could capture convicts alive. His macabre device earned him the nickname the Deathslinger, and he now uses it to spear and sacrifice survivors to the Entity of Dead by Daylight. To recreate the Deathslinger’s quintessentially Western look, a simple cowboy costume will suffice. However, some additional creativity may be required to make his signature spear gun weapon by attaching a prop spear to a prop rifle with a vintage look. Liquid latex can be used to create the wound on his cheek, and also to help tear and bloody his knuckles.
Tadaomi Karasuma from Assassination Classroom
Tadaomi Karasuma is a supporting character in the comedic anime Assassination Clasroom. He’s an agent sent from Japan’s Ministry of Defense to monitor Korosensei at Kunugigoka Junior High School. He was hired as the physical education and assistant teacher for Class 3-E. Karasuma is strict yet kind, and prefers not to get particularly close with the students due to his profession. He’s not completely incapable of emotion but he’s rather oblivious when it comes to romantic feelings.
Gakuhō Asano from Assassination Classroom
Gakuho Asano is a minor character in the comedic anime Assassination Classroom. He is the board chairman of Kunugigaoka Junior High School and the antagonist of the first half of the series. His obsession with a perfect education solidifies his priorities, in which he will put perfecting and maintaining pedagogy over anything else. This leads to a strained relationship with his son, Gakushu Asano, the student council president, as he only views him as a tool to perfecting the system. When a student takes his own life, Gakuho realizes his morality is skewed and blames himself. As a result, he becomes more mellow and less condescending in his teaching methods.
Skurge from Thor: Ragnarok
Skurge is a character you both love to hate and hate to love. In Thor: Ragnarok, he quickly abandons his people to serve Hela on her return to Asgard. But in the end he throws himself to battle against her, trying to right the wrongs of his previous choices. Of course it might just be Karl Urban’s portrayal that gives Skurge the humorous charm he seems to have. But you be the judge of that!
Skurge’s costume is exclusively comprised of a complex set of armor. The one listed above is from another movie but looks very similar. If you add in a bald cap, face paint to recreate his tattoos, a fake goatee, and a sword, you’re ready to defend Asgard!
Mister Fantastic
Mister Fantastic, aka Reed Richards, is the leader of the Fantastic Four. With an incredible knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics among other many sciences, he is credited as the smartest character in the Marvel universe. In fact, he invented the very spacecraft that became exposed to the radiation which gave the team their powers. Now he has the ability to stretch his limbs into any shape. Mister Fantastic acts as a close friend and mentor to the Fantastic Four. Invisible Woman, aka Sue Storm, is his wife, which makes Human Torch, Johnny Storm, his brother-in-law.
Yuno from Black Clover
Yuno (voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki and Micah Solusod) is an orphan raised at the Hage church alongside his foster brother Asta in the anime series Black Clover. Yuno is proficient in his use of the magic arts and eventually receives a four-leaf clover grimoire to aid him in his quest to become the Magic Emperor. Yuno wears a black tunic and short pants with boots, as well as a pendant that he was wearing when he was left at the church as a baby. You will need two belts to wear crossed around your hips to finish his look, and you can also add the cape he wears after becoming a Magic Knight if you wish.
Crimson Bolt from Super
In the movie Super, Rainn Wilson plays the role of Frank Darbo, a kind but awkward man who creates the vigilante alter-ego Crimson Bolt in the aftermath of his wife’s death. The Crimson Bolt dons a homemade red suit with a hand-printed sigil. If you are feeling particularly crafty, you could make your Crimson Bolt shirt by hand as well with a red long sleeve tee and some yellow fabric paint. Otherwise, grab your ready-made shirt and layer as much padding as you can over your uniform, using red spray paint liberally when necessary to achieve the fully-crimson appearance of Frank’s superhero personality.
Paul from Her
Paul (played by Chris Pratt) is a co-worker and friend of Theodore in the Spike Jonze film Her. Like Theodore, Paul works at “Beautiful Handwritten Letters,” and he admires Theodore’s ability to write from many different perspectives and capture a wide range of voices. Paul often sports striped polo shirts and he has a well-groomed mustache.
Dr. Trevor Bruttenholm from Hellboy
Most people today are familiar with Dr. Trevor “Broom” Bruttenholm thanks to the 2004 and 2008 Hellboy movies starring Ron Perlman and directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Newer fans met the soft-spoken professor in Neil Marshall’s 2019 Hellboy adaptation starring David Harbour. And still others remember Dr. Bruttholm from the Dark Horse Comics. The source that started it all.
Both big screen versions of Dr. Bruttenholm share a certain style. They both like three piece suits and close-cropped goatees. Because of this there are two suits listed above. One in tweed with a more classic look and another with a sleeker, more modern look. The cane is part of the earlier look while the accessories – a leatherbound book, a rosary, and of course the goatee – are shared between both looks.
Hyakkimaru from Dororo
Hyakkimaru is the main character of the anime Dororo. Considered an anti-hero in the series, he is a ronin and human/demon hybrid. His father put a curse on him, and as a result, he does not have any limbs. Jukai raises and trains Hyakkimaru to kill 12 demons to regain his body parts and return to his homeland. He also vows to kill his father because of his suffering. He travels with a young androgynous girl named Dororo.
