Snow White (2025)
Snow White is a classic Disney animated princess film that you may be familiar with. There is a brand new, live-action adaptation of it coming out next year, which starts the very talented Rachel Zegler.
To dress like Snow White from this upcoming film, starting with the top, there isn’t one out yet that is exactly like hers which looks to be a velvet material, but for now you can take the top from previous available, pre-made costumes. You can either cut off this part, but it may be easier just to wear this at the base. Over this, you’ll want to achieve the very full yellow skirt. You can wear one, or layer multiple yellow full tulle skirts. This costume cuts straight across at the waist, so wear the over-skirts slightly above the waistline of the base costume. If there is a ribbon, you can fold it under, remove it, or tuck it in. Wear white tights underneath with red ballet flats. Finally, either style your own hair in a similar fashion or style a short black wig.
Topsy Turvy from Mary Poppins Returns
Topsy Turvy is a character from the musical film, Mary Poppins Returns, and is played by Meryl Streep. Her costume is one that is eclectic and quirky, matching her personality. There are many pieces to her costume but when broken down, isn’t all that difficult to put together, and is definitely worth the crafting.
Starting with the base, wear a satin green v-neck tank top tucked into a black maxi skirt. For shoes, give the same feel of the mismatch boots by wearing green suede heels and pink and black striped socks. For her robe, take a black and multicolored kimono/ robe, and either cut off part of it at the hem to sew the trim or leave it and sew it on top. The trim is a 12+ long green fringe. You can also cover the seam with a ribbon to make it a cleaner transition. For her accessories, wear different colored chunky bangle bracelets, a necklace made of colored pencils, and champagne tassel earrings. Wear a metallic scarf or knotted turban on your head and stick two paint fan brushes in an x formation through the front knot. To create the clock belt, start with a green waist belt as the base. Make a clock by cutting out the base on Bristol board, cover with green construction paper, and put a smaller white piece over that. Here you can sketch out a clock or print out one and glue it. On the back, attach magnets with glue and to the belt. This makes for a much lighter belt than using a real clock. Finally, make your hair similar to hers or wear a wig, and for makeup, wear a yellow eyeshadow, a graphic black eyeliner, and a red lip.
Emcee from Cabaret (Broadway 2024)
Emcee is a character from the current 2024 Broadway adaptation of Cabaret, and is played by Eddie Redmayne. Emcee is the sort of narrator in the story, and is the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Club, set in 1930s Berlin.
To dress like Emcee, start with a cream or white crochet sleeveless top. Tuck this into maroon wide leg pants that you can cut off and hem if possible at the knee. Over this, wear a maroon waist belt to give it a more high-waisted look like the original costume. If the bow portion of both the pants and belt get in the way, cut off the excess on the pants and tuck the rest into the waist band. Cover the edge with the waist belt and tuck the ribbons into itself or under the belt to create a more flat look. At the neck, wear a maroon scarf tied into a bow. Pair with black elbow-black gloves, maroon lace-up boots, and a teal green/ blue party hat. For hair, you can use a temporary spray orange color.
Sally Bowles from Cabaret (1972)
Sally Bowles is a character from the 1972 musical film, Cabaret and is played by Liza Minnelli. Sally is a 19 year old cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Club set in 1931 Berlin.
To dress like Sally in one of her most recognizable costumes, wear a black vest, black shorts, black vintage-style stockings, black lace-up heeled boots, and a black and purple necklace. For the hat, take a black bowler hat and add a wide purple ribbon.
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
The Phantom of the Opera (2004) is a screen adaptation of the broadway musical. It tells the story of the Phantom who resides in a Paris opera house. He attempts to get closer to a singer named Christine.

Satine from Moulin Rogue
Satine is one of the main characters from the iconic Baz Lurhmann musical film Moulin Rogue, and is played by Nicole Kidman. Moulin Rogue is a flashy and over-the-top musical film (in the best way) and features its own takes on popular songs, including those of the early 2000s while following the love story between Satine and Christian.
To dress like Satine in her diamond costume, take a silver corset as the base for the top. Overlay a scalloped silver lace and mesh fabric over it entirely. Create the collar and half skirt, use faux black velvet fabric and silver trims and appliqués, or even rhinestones (silver and/ or AB). Attach fringe silver trim to the bottom front of the corset. Pair this with long black opera gloves, black fishnet tights, black vintage dance heels, and a black top hat that you can also add silver trim to. For her red gown, take a red gown with a corset waist and wear with the long black opera gloves.
Harley Quinn from Joker: Folie À Deux
A new film in the Joker series is releasing October of this year, called Joker: Folie á Deux. This film is new in that it is actually a musical, and features singer Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.
To dress as Harley Quinn in this film, start with the makeup. Her makeup uses black eyeshadow or black cream makeup that is smudged around the eyes in a clown-inspired shape. For lips, she wears a cool red lipstick that you can also smudge around the edges with your fingers. For the outfit, wear a black coat for an easier more low-effort version, or you can take on her red blazer one. For the red blazer, take a ruffled/ peplum red blazer as the base. Cut the sleeves to right above your elbow, leaving an extra inch 1/2 or more to turn under and attach the ruffled pleated fabric, which is two pieces at two different lengths. If you want to take on the diamond/ argyle pattern, use red piping or cording to sew or glue on in similar shapes. Even further, add light distressing at the edges and on some of the piping with watered-down paint and/ or sandpaper.
For the top, take a muslin or cream corset-style top as the base. Using black fabric paint, paint on the argyle pattern (Tip: use a pencil and tape or a cut out piece of paper as a stencil to make the edges clean). To mimic the pointed shape at the bottom of the corset, take muslin fabric and attach it underneath and fold it in the similar draped pleats as in the photo. Lay the fabric flat on the ground and run sandpaper across the edges to create the raw edge.
Wear these with a black leather mini-skirt, black argyle patterned tights, and any black shoes to finish off the look.
Glinda from Wicked (2024)
Musical and Broadway fans are reeling after the release of the new trailer for the film Wicked. The film is a screen adaptation of the broadway musical Wicked, which tells the story of the witches of Oz. This film will be in two parts and release separately, at different dates. As we await the first release, we get to analyze and enjoy the trailer and all of it’s impressive actors and of course, the costumes.
In this I’ll be covering how you can dress like or recreate the different looks of Glinda that we get glimpses of throughout the wicked trailers out now. For the look pictured, wear a delicate pink sheer blouse that is sleeveless and ruffled along with a pink midi skirt, vintage-style pink heels, and a pink crossbody purse. Another look is one that resembles a ballet outfit where she seems to be practicing some kind of jousting or fighting in a class with Elphaba. To dress like that wear a pink ballet leotard, a pink wrap ballet skirt, and tie your hair up with two pink bows. Another thing to add could be a pink coat dress over top. Lastly, we get to see bits and pieces of what seems to be her iconic ‘Popular’ number where she gives us kicks and dance, even hanging from a chandelier in a sheer tulle pink robe that is all the drama, just like herself.
