Cindy Lou Who

Cindy Lou Who is a sweet young girl in How The Grinch Stole Christmas. In the original children’s book by Dr. Seuss, she is a minor character, but she becomes the secondary protagonist in the movies. This guide features her costume from the 2000 live action adaptation starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch and Taylor Momsen as Cindy. Around eight or ten years old, Cindy lives with her frazzled father in Whoville. Unlike the other Whos, she believes there is some good in the Grinch. Later she sneaks aboard the Grinch’s sleigh and helps him return all the gifts. Cindy befriends the Grinch and brings him to celebrate the holiday by singing around the giant Christmas tree. Cindy also sings  “Where Are You Christmas?” which was specifically written for that movie.

Annabeth Chase

Annabeth Chase is a main character in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books written by Rick Riordan. She is a half blood, specifically the daughter of Athena, and is one of the seven demigods in the Prophecy. Like her mother, she is intelligent, witty, and level-headed. However, her fatal flaw is hubris, thinking she can do things better than everyone, even the gods. Her main weapon is a bronze knife, but she can wield any weapon with extraordinary skill. Before arriving at Camp Half Blood, she traveled alongside Luke and Thalia. At first, she playfully teased Percy, but their friendship eventually blossomed into romance.

bridget jones from bridget jones diary

Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones’s Diary

Bridget Jones (played by Renée Zellweger) is the every-woman heroine of Bridget Jones’s Diary and its two sequels. Bridget is an unlucky in love woman who chronicles her personal and professional life in a diary as she navigates her thirties in London. Bridget is well-known for often wearing clothing that may seem inappropriate by others’ standards, making her outfits fun to recreate. It would be difficult to find Bridget’s exact Christmas party look from the first movie, but you can evoke the same feeling by finding a vintage skirt and vest set in holiday colors. Likewise, if you’d like to replicate her look from the “absent skirt” incident from Bridget’s office, only a black mini with matching tights will do.

Ponyboy Curtis from The Outsiders

Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is the protagonist and narrator of The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton. He is the youngest in the Curtis family with Soda-Pop and Darry as his older brothers. Despite being fourteen years old, he sees how the members of the Greasers function. He also learns that their rival gang, the Socs, have problems just like they do. Ponyboy is the closest to Johnny Cade in age and in mentality, as they both are more compassionate and willing to help others. The two run away together, and Ponyboy bleaches his hair so no one recognizes him. Together they save children from a burning church, which resulted in Johnny’s death. As he died, he told Ponyboy to “stay gold.” Here are three looks from the movie adaptation, where Tom Howell portrays this character. From the lines near his shoulders, it looks like he cut the sleeves off a navy blue sweater. You can also use the scissors to rip up the jeans a bit. The other two outfits are more simple, consisting of different plaid shirts. Although for his end-credits look, you will need blonde hair.

white witch from the chronicles of narnia

Jadis the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Jadis, also known as the White Witch (played by Tilda Swinton) is the primary antagonist of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  She is the person responsible for freezing Narnia in its one Hundred Years Winter.  Jadis’ clothing is typically white and grey, and she wears a crown of ice with a long wand.  It can be difficult to find an exact replica of her more specialized accessories, but a similar look can be achieved with smaller and more understated crystals.

slappy-goosebumps-character

Slappy

Slappy the Dummy is the antagonist in the Goosebumps movies, based on the children’s books by R.L. Stine. He seems like an ordinary ventriloquist dummy…until someone utters the incantation written on the paper in Slappy’s jacket pocket. Once uttered, Slappy will come alive and try to make you your slave. He will wreak havoc and then frame you for his evil acts. He first appears Night of the Living Dummy, and has since become the most popular villains in the franchise. Use the brown eye pencil to color in your eyebrows, draw on freckles, and to achieve the puppet’s design, draw two lines from the corners of your mouth to your chin.

Kazuma from Noragami

Kazuma from Noragami

Kazuma (Eric Vale / Jun Fukuyama) is the blessed vessel / lead shinki of the Japanese fortune goddess Bishamon. Loyal to a fault, he’s been known to take matters into his own hand to help his mistress whether she realizes she needs it or not. When Yukine becomes Yato‘s blessed vessel, Kazuma eagerly takes the young shinki under his wing, though his motives in becoming close with his mistress’s rival (usually Bishamon-serving, as opposed to self-serving) come under Yukine’s scrutiny more than once.

Yule Ball Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Yule Ball Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire

Hermione Granger (played by Emma Watson) is the brains of Hogwarts’ most notorious trio. At least the most notorious while she was in school there. Usually Hermione wasn’t one to stand out from the crowd except with her intellect. But when the Yule Ball rolled around the stole the show in her lilac dress, slick curls, and the school’s visiting heart throb as her date.

You might be hard-pressed to find your own Viktor Krum but you can certainly copy Hermione’s look. You’ll want to start with a long curly wig since one of the first things noticed about Hermione at the ball was her hair. You can achieve the same updo with hair pins and this YouTube Video. There are also video tutorials on how to copy her exact makeup look as well.

Once you have your wig set, add in a violet ballgown and some plum ribbon as a sash. Finding her exact dress is a little difficult (though there are patterns online if you are handy with a sewing machine) but there is one listed above. A few similar dresses are also included that may be a little more affordable. Once you have chosen your gown just add in some enamel flower earrings, silver heels, and Hermione’s wand. We might not have seen it at the ball but it’s not likely that she didn’t have it close at hand!

Miss Trunchbull from Matilda

Miss Trunchbull from Matilda

If you were a ’90s kid, Miss Trunchbull from Matilda was the stuff of nightmares. Played by Pam Ferris, she was the epitome of a horrible principal. Whether it was locking kids in the Chokey or tossing them out a window to land (safely, thankfully) in a rare patch of flowers near her school, she terrorized students and staff alike.

I wouldn’t recommend emulating her attitude but you can certainly get her severe style with a few key pieces. The most important pieces are a long green overcoat and a wig with a slicked-back bun. The overcoat pictured above is longer than Miss Trunchbull’s but this will allow you hem it (or tape it up) to the right length for you. If you want to cosplay her her school uniform you can wear a skirt and shirt under the overcoat, though they won’t e seen. Of course you’ll need the wig with its slicked back bun as well. Add in some tall Army green socks and leather shoes as well as a leather belt to complete the look.

For the clothes she wears at home you’ll need a grey pullover sweater, green sweat pants, white athletic socks, and sneakers. Using letter Transfer sheets add the words “1972 Olympics” to the front of the sweater.  Tuck a white towel in around the back of your neck with the bulk of it showing above the collar. Take the leather belt from her school outfit (or a weight lifting leather belt if you have one) and tighten it around your waste. Then add in green sweats, bunched athletic socks, and simple sneakers.

And, of course, Miss Trunchbull isn’t Miss Trunchbull without her coveted box of chocolates. You can make your own by taking the chocolates (still in their paper cups) out of a standard box of chocolates and putting them into an enamel hinge-top box. It’s a bit bulky for an accessory but every Matilda fan will know immediately why Miss Trunchbull would keep the box close!
