Destiny from Sandman

Like his siblings (collectively known as The Endless) Destiny’s name is also what he is. He is Destiny. Or the personification thereof at least. He is the calmest of his siblings and often plays host when the group has to gather for any reason.

Putting together a Destiny costume can be a little tricky as his cloak is depicted in shades of grey, brown, and even purple. As the nature of destiny changes, so does Destiny’s appearance. For this cosplay we’re choosing a brown cloak to match the image above. Invisible soles let you safely achieve a barefoot look while white body paint gives you an inhuman Endless look. A thick leather bound book with a chain leading out from it is the final and only accessory for this cosplay.

Minthe from Lore Olympus

Minthe is a character in the webcomic Lore Olympus. She is a river nymph and serves as personal secretary to Hades. Because of her insecurities and self consciousness, she is very insecure. This makes her wary of any kindness. For instance, Persephone agrees to respect the boundaries of the relationship between Hades and Minthe. Although Minthe has always been rude towards Persephone, as she’s jealous of Hades’ feelings towards her. Despite wanting to get better, the nymph keeps falling back into her manipulative and vindictive ways. In the comics, she has red skin, long red hair, and pointed ears. For this cosplay, use the face paint to also paint the ears.

Hourman from DC Comics

Hourman

Created by Bernard Bally and Ken Fitch, Hourman first appeared in 1940. He quickly became a beloved character in what would be known as the Golden Age of comics. Originally the mantle was worn by Rex Tyler who gained his powers for one hour at a time through the use of Miraclo.

Rick Tyler – the bearer of the Hourman name since 2011 – has a different look than the one pictured above. But who doesn’t love a good Golden Age costume?!

To start you’ll need a yellow hooded cape. Hourman’s includes a mask that covers his face but that’s a bit hard to find. You can closely recreate the look with a black face mask that blends with the shadows inside the hood of your cape. You’ll also want an hourglass pendant that you either glue to your cape or fashion into a necklace of some kind.

Under that you’ll want yellow compression pants over which you wear a black long-sleeves singlet. Wrap a red belt around your waist like the one pictured above (though you’ll have to trim the pictured belt quite a bit once you have it sized properly). Finish off the look with some red boots painted with black stripes and you’re ready to go!

Bianca Castafiore from Tintin.

Bianca Castafiore from Tintin

Bianca Castafiore is a kindhearted opera singer better known to the world as the Milanese Nightingale, although if you ask Tintin or Captain Haddock, she sounds quite awful. Herge’s heroic comic book duo seem to have a minority opinion, though, and they’ve used Bianca’s fame to their advantage while defeating globe-trotting villains. If only Señora Castafiore, who memorizes many a famous operatic piece, could get Haddock’s name right….

Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel

Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel

Angel Dust (voiced by Michael Kovach) is a demon and resident of the Hazbin Hotel. With his white fur and pink markings he has a distinct look even among demons. Never mind the four (or six) arms or venomous bite!

He might be sarcastic and reckless but the heart on the back of his head isn’t there for nothing. Angel Dust knows who his people are and he’s there for them when they need him.

There’s really no way to mimic Angel’s retractable arms but you can get the rest of his look with a little DIY and body paint. A white wig and styling gel will give you his hair style while hair chalk lets you draw in the pink spots and the heart on the back of his head. There are pre-made wigs on Etsy though they do cost a pretty penny in exchange for the predone work.

The wig sets the tone for the rest of Angel Dust’s costume. White body paint mimics his demon-pale skin. A white suit jacket can be painted with pink fabric paint to mimic Angel Dust’s. Under that you’ll want a white button down shirt and add a black bow tie. White leggings, pink gloves, and black  boots copy the rest of his look. Finish it off with a set of sharp fake teeth and you’re a dead ringer for Hell’s favorite pretty boy. Make sure you pack plenty of sass and you’re ready to go! Just try and stay out of the kind of trouble that Angel Dust usually gets into.

Star Platinum from JoJo's Bizarre Adventures

Star Platinum from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Star Platinum (voiced by Matthew Mercer in the English animated versions) is one of the first stands introduced in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures. Largely silent and easily moved to violence, it is incredibly powerful.

Star Platinum doesn’t wear much but creating a cosplay for it takes more DIY than you might expect. You can achieve its purple skin either through the use of body paint of the use of a purple body suit with paint only on your face and neck. If you use body paint on your whole body, be sure and grab a pair of purple shorts to wear under its white loincloth.

It also wears elbow protectors, knee protectors, and shoulder pads. You will have to spray paint standard knee and elbow pads with purple spray paint. The shoulder pads need to be painted gold, however. And you can add the purple curling stripe on his shoulders with foam or cardboard painted purple and glued in place with a glue gun.

After that it’s just a matter of cutting the fingers off white gloves, putting a gold scarf around your neck, adding a gold belt, slipping into some white ankle boots, and putting on a black wig!

John Egbert from Homestuck

John Egbert from Homestuck

John is your typical nerd. Until, of course, he isn’t. He is calm and dedicated to his friends but when pushed too far he will do whatever it takes to protect his people.

John has three looks throughout the comic. The first is an all-white look with a white shirt, shite pants, and white shoes. The shirt has a picture of a creature similar to Slimer from Ghostbusters but is not quite right.

His dream version wears a yellow shirt and yellow pants with a moon decal on the shirt. Blue shoes finish off this outfit. In his god-tier outfit the colors are inverted. A pair of blue pants and a blue shirt with an air curl decal on the shirt make up the majority of his look while yellow shoes finish it off.

In all forms John has black hair that can be mimicked with a wig. And you can either choose to stick with your natural skin ton or use white body paint to get a look like John in the comics.

Stolas from Hazbin Hotel

Stolas from Hazbin Hotel

Stolas (voiced by Brock Baker in the pilot on YouTube) is a demon prince of hell in the web series Hazbin Hotel. He dotes on those he loves and is, generally, less cruel than other demons. But he is still a demon. Just one whose interests lie in the sexual rather than the generally violent. At least with other demons. With humans, however, it’s quite a different story.

You can’t quite mimic Stolas’ bird-like appearance. But you can get close! Start with a top hat and add back feathers around the rim. Add a golden crown on the brim and your hat is all set. Gray face paint and an owl mask lend you Stolas’ facial appearance. And the rest of the costume is all down to his regal sense of style.

Stolas favors an ermine-trimmed cape with a tattered hem. The cape pictured above is close but you will have to tatter the edges yourself. Under that Stolas wears a red military-style coat, grey skintight pants that are best mimicked with gray leggings, and tall black boots. Next you’ll need long black gloves with white feathers added around the top. And finally you will need a long feathered owl tail. You can either make one or use the feathered boa pictured above to mimic Stolas’ tail.

Now you’re ready to strut your stuff as a prince of Hell!

greenlanternalanscott-dc-character

Green Lantern (Alan Scott)

Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern in the DC Universe and Comics. Unlike other Green Lanterns, his powers don’t come from the Guardians of the Universe, but from a magical entity called the Starheart. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, Alan was instrumental in numerous wartime battles. Use the yellow paint for the lines on the boots.

Alpha from The Walking Dead

Alpha from The Walking Dead

In The Walking Dead, Alpha (Samantha Morton) is the leader of the Whisperers and the mother of Lydia. She’s known to be highly intelligent, cunning, and ruthless, taking sadistic pleasure in slaughtering anyone who challenges her authority. Her real name and past unknown, Alpha has completely shed her identity from before the outbreak, embracing herself just as a survivor of the post-apocalypse.
