In Three Billboard Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Frances McDormand plays Mildred Hayes, the mother of murdered teenager Angela.  Mildred is frustrated that, seven months after her daughter's death, there are still no leads or arrests.  Mildred rents three billboards to challenge the local police chief, Bill Willoughby, to solve the case.  Mildred is a domestic abuse survivor with a short temper; her tenacity and grit are essential to standing up to the local police and harassing locals.  Mildred's costuming consists mostly of thermal long-sleeved shirts and coveralls.
