Jeri Hogarth from Jessica Jones

Jeri Hogarth from Jessica Jones

Jeri Hogarth might have been a man in the Marvel Comics version of Jessica Jones but Carrie-Anne Moss plays him to perfection in the Netflix adaptation. She is driven, sharp, and more than a little manipulative if that’s what it takes to get what she wants. Whether she’s dealing with Jessica, a client, or her own wife Jeri always has a goal in mind that she’s going after.

It’s not surprising that a woman with such tight control over her world is also professional and sharp in the way she dresses. She favors a long camel coat over sharp dresses, usually in dark colors. She wears these with nylons, stilettos, and a leather handbag.

Firefly from The Last of Us

Fireflies from The Last of Us

The Fireflies are a paramilitary group of antagonistic rebels in The Last of Us and its sequel. They fought against military control in quarantine zones and sought a cure to CBI on their own. Though they are more organized than other rebel groups, their uniforms do vary from person to person based on what they can get their hands on. Every member, however, has the Firefly symbol somewhere on their gear.

There are two sets of paramilitary clothes pictured above. One is more of a woodland set while the other would be good in urban or snowy climates where cooler colors would blend in well. Both sets can be turned into Firefly gear through the use a Firefly patch on the clothing, decal on the gear, or dog tag added to the outfit.

Bianca Castafiore from Tintin.

Bianca Castafiore from Tintin

Bianca Castafiore is a kindhearted opera singer better known to the world as the Milanese Nightingale, although if you ask Tintin or Captain Haddock, she sounds quite awful. Herge’s heroic comic book duo seem to have a minority opinion, though, and they’ve used Bianca’s fame to their advantage while defeating globe-trotting villains. If only Señora Castafiore, who memorizes many a famous operatic piece, could get Haddock’s name right….

Damian from Mean Girls the Musical

Damian Hubbard is a character in the Mean Girls musical. Similar to the movie, he is Janis Sarkasian’s best friend who is “too gay to function” (but it’s only funny when Janis calls him that). The two take Cady Heron under their wing to navigate the cutthroat drama of American high school. Then they realize they Cady can help take down the Plastics by posing as one of them. But when Cady starts to seriously obsess over social media and her image, Damian tries to knock some sense into her with the song “Stop.” Grey Henson originated the role on Broadway. The show modernizes Damian’s look with flannel and a drag queen t-shirt.

Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel

Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel

Angel Dust (voiced by Michael Kovach) is a demon and resident of the Hazbin Hotel. With his white fur and pink markings he has a distinct look even among demons. Never mind the four (or six) arms or venomous bite!

He might be sarcastic and reckless but the heart on the back of his head isn’t there for nothing. Angel Dust knows who his people are and he’s there for them when they need him.

There’s really no way to mimic Angel’s retractable arms but you can get the rest of his look with a little DIY and body paint. A white wig and styling gel will give you his hair style while hair chalk lets you draw in the pink spots and the heart on the back of his head. There are pre-made wigs on Etsy though they do cost a pretty penny in exchange for the predone work.

The wig sets the tone for the rest of Angel Dust’s costume. White body paint mimics his demon-pale skin. A white suit jacket can be painted with pink fabric paint to mimic Angel Dust’s. Under that you’ll want a white button down shirt and add a black bow tie. White leggings, pink gloves, and black  boots copy the rest of his look. Finish it off with a set of sharp fake teeth and you’re a dead ringer for Hell’s favorite pretty boy. Make sure you pack plenty of sass and you’re ready to go! Just try and stay out of the kind of trouble that Angel Dust usually gets into.

Richter Belmont from Castlevania

Richter Belmont from Castlevania

Richter Belmont (voiced in the English games by David Vincent and the Japanese by Kiyoyuki Yanda) is the bane of Dracula’s existence. Well one of them anyway. A vampire hunter from a long line of them, Belmont wields the Sacred Whip in his efforts to rid the world of evil.

There are several variations on Belmont’s costume. This write-up will focus on the one pictured above.  To start you’ll want a long blue military coat. You’ll have to cuff the sleeves and likely pin them in place so they don’t unroll while you’re wearing the costume. You’ll also need long black gloves and a pair of white pants. Finish it off with a bandolier, a brown wig, brown pirate boots, and – of course – the Scared Whip!

Star Platinum from JoJo's Bizarre Adventures

Star Platinum from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Star Platinum (voiced by Matthew Mercer in the English animated versions) is one of the first stands introduced in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures. Largely silent and easily moved to violence, it is incredibly powerful.

Star Platinum doesn’t wear much but creating a cosplay for it takes more DIY than you might expect. You can achieve its purple skin either through the use of body paint of the use of a purple body suit with paint only on your face and neck. If you use body paint on your whole body, be sure and grab a pair of purple shorts to wear under its white loincloth.

It also wears elbow protectors, knee protectors, and shoulder pads. You will have to spray paint standard knee and elbow pads with purple spray paint. The shoulder pads need to be painted gold, however. And you can add the purple curling stripe on his shoulders with foam or cardboard painted purple and glued in place with a glue gun.

After that it’s just a matter of cutting the fingers off white gloves, putting a gold scarf around your neck, adding a gold belt, slipping into some white ankle boots, and putting on a black wig!
