Men
Vince Masuka from Dexter
Vince Masuka (played by C. S. Lee) is the comedic relief in the Miami precinct where he works. He’s upbeat and positive most of the time which is impressive given the sort of things he sees. He’s also got a dirty sense of humor that gets him in trouble now and then. But overall he’s a good man that goes the extra mile for his friends.
Because he lives in Miami, Vince prefers short sleeves button up shirts and slack with sensible shoes while he works. He’s rarely without a set of disposable gloves for evidence collection. And of course a Vince cosplay would not be complete without his signature bold head and glasses!
Benny from In The Heights
Benny (Corey Hawkins) is a character in the movie musical, In The Heights. He works at the dispatch for Kevin Rosario’s taxi service, and falls in love with his daughter, Nina. His friends include Usnavi and Sonny. One day, Benny dreams of opening his own business. He is the only person in the movie who does not speak Spanish. Fun Fact: Christopher Jackson, who made a cameo as the ice cream man, played Benny in the original Broadway musical.
Ercole Visconti
Ercole Visconti is the main antagonist in the Disney Pixar movie, Luca. He is the well-known bully of Portorosso and consistent champion of the annual triathlon. Even though he’s sixteen, which is too old to compete, he continues to keep his bragging rights. He particularly enjoys picking on Giulia Marcovaldo, whom he calls “Spewlia” because she gets sick during the race. Alberto call him Signor Vespa because he owns a Vespa, but later Luca calls him a catfish (because they’re bottom-feeders with two sad little whiskers). Narcissistic and pompadoured, Ercole believes his presence is adored by all. His two lackeys, Ciccio and Guido, accompany him at all times to do his bidding.
Usnavi de la Vega from In the Heights
Usnavi de la Vega (Anthony Ramos) is the main character and narrator in the movie musical, In The Heights. His name comes from the first sight his parents saw when they arrived in America: a ship that said “US Navy.” After the passing of his parents, Abuela Claudia, the beloved neighborhood matriarch, practically raised him. He owns a small bodega in Washington Heights, but his dream is to move to the Dominican Republic. It’s no secret Usnavi is in love with Vanessa. You may recognize Ramos from his role in Hamilton, where he starred alongside Lin Manuel-Miranda, who composed and wrote both shows. In addition, Manuel-Miranda originated the role of Usnavi on Broadway.
Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad
Christopher Smith (played by John Cena), better known by his moniker Peacemaker, is a violent extremist who believes no amount of carnage is too much if it achieves peace. In The Suicide Squad movie, Peacemaker works with other members of Task Force X including Polka-Dot Man, Bloodsport, and Ratcatcher 2 to stop the giant extraterrestrial Starro the Conquerer. Peacemaker’s costume is reminiscent of classic super heroes, with a red, white and blue color palette and a silver mask. Finding his exact shirt can be difficult, so don’t be afraid to use a plain red t-shirt as a cost effective stand-in.
Knuckleduster from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
Iwao Oguro, once known by the Pro Hero names O’Clock in Japan and Hyper Quadfist in China, now goes by the moniker Knuckleduster in the My Hero Academia companion manga Vigilantes. Knuckleduster is a Quirkless vigilante. Even since All for One stole Overclock, Iwao continues his fight justice and protects local neighborhoods by challenging gangs and small-time criminals many Pro Heroes won’t take the time to stop. Knuckleduster wears fingerless gloves, a green trench coat, and a half-face mask to conceal his identity.
Shane Patton from The White Lotus
Shane Patton (played by Jake Lacy) is the entitled real estate agent married to Rachel on the HBO series The White Lotus. Newlyweds, Shane and Rachel arrive at the White Lotus to enjoy a luxurious vacation, but Shane’s rude attitude when dealing with the staff, including hotel manager Armond, threatens to sour their excursion. Shane wears a number of colorful polo shirts throughout his stay, so there are plenty of palettes to choose from.
Polka-Dot Man from The Suicide Squad
Abner Krill (played by David Dastmalchian), better known by the name Polka-Dot Man, is a metahuman and a member of Task Force X in the movie The Suicide Squad. Polka-Dot Man is able to create weapons out of multi-colored dots grown from his body as the result of an interdimensional virus. Along with Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, and Bloodsport, Polka-Dot Man seeks to stop Starro the Conqueror. Polka-Dot Man’s costume is very reminiscent of a vintage pilot, including googles and a skull cap. To recreate his look, you’ll want to set aside some time to paint polka dots onto a light grey jumpsuit. It can be difficult to find a grey cap, but a little grey paint can help soften the darker colors more commonly available.
Nandor the Relentless from What We Do in the Shadows
Nandor the Relentless (portrayed by Kayvan Novak) is a more than 750-years-old Iranian vampire on the FX show What We Do in the Shadows. Nandor is the roommate of Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin. Currently, Guillermo de la Cruz serves at Nandor’s familiar. Nandor’s costumes are often over-the-top, with beautifully decorated capes and period clothes that harken back to his origins. Don’t be afraid to go a little over the top for this costume, and if you’re going to splurge, make sure it’s on a cape that will help you get into the vampire spirit.
Batman from Zero Year
Initially meant as a way to redefine Batman’s origin, the Zero Year comic run has since become a huge crossover event featuring many of the most well-known faces in Gotham. Parts of it were even used to influence the last season of the hit show Gotham and fans still go back to the comic run almost a decade after its release for Snyder and Tynion’s take on the fearsome vigilante.
In this iteration of Batman he often wears a horned cowl, grey suit with a black Batman symbol on his chest, purple gloves, a yellow utility belt, a black utility strap around his thigh, and black boots.
Because the comic run is not as widely known as the movie versions, finding the specific suit can be difficult. The one pictured here is close and includes the cowl, though you will have to request the gloves be left off if you purchase from the linked seller. For cosplayers who can invest a little more, Etsy sellers offer muscle suits that can then be painted and customized more specifically, but they do not come cheap.
With the linked suit, the utility belt is included. However if you go through an Esty seller – as with the suit – there are many who make the utility belts though they charge a great deal more for their craftmanship.
