Lorna from Over the Garden Wall
Lorna is a character from the animated series Over the Garden Wall and is voiced by Shannyn Sossamon. Over the Garden Wall follows brothers Wirt and Greg as they travel to the Unknown and encounter many strange things and characters along the way. Lorna is a teen girl who is sick and cared for by her adoptive aunt, Auntie Whispers. Wirt and Greg meet her in episode seven of the series.
Lorna wears a white bonnet, a white apron, and a green skirt that matches the green lace trim that can be added to her deep teal shirt or sweater.
Sylvester the Cat from Looney Tunes
Sylvester J. Pussycat, Sr. (originally voiced by Mel Blanc) is one of the Looney Tunes. A black and white cat, Sylvester has a lisp and uses the catchphrase, “Sufferin’ succotash,” often during his skirmishes with Tweety Bird. To recreate Sylvester’s look, you have a few choices. Replica costumes do exist which include a full-head mask designed to closely resemble the cartoon character. Pair this with white animal paw gloves and slippers to complete the look. Alternately, if full-face masks aren’t your thing, you could use a black and white onesie with the same gloves and slippers, and simply add a black and white cat tail and ears to your costume. As long as you take the time to memorize Sylvester’s signature phrase, there will be no doubt which cat you’re trying to emulate.
Kaoru Matsubara from Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z
Kaoru Matsubara (voiced by Machiko Kawana and Kelly Metzger) is a member of the titular crime-fighting group in Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z. Karoru is athletic and popular, but often feels disconnected from her friends Momoko and Miyako because of her lack of interest in typically girly things including clothes and love stories. Kaoru’s color palette consists of green and yellow, and her alter ego Powered Buttercup wears a green dress, green shoes, and a yellow vest. To recreate her look, you can cut the sleeves off a letterman jacket and add your own letter “P.” You can also use navy blue and green fabric paint to add details to the dress and alter the white parts of the jacket to green, though you’ll still be recognizable even if you don’t feel like busting out a paintbrush.
Miyako Gotokuji from Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z
Miyako Gotokuji (voiced by Nami Miyahara and Marÿke Hendrikse) is one-third of the Powerpuff Girls in Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z. Miyako is popular at school, often the object of affection for boys in her grade. She is friends with Momoko and Kaoru, who fight alongside her heroine alter-ego Rolling Bubbles. Miyako’s crime-fighting costume consists of shades of blue. You can recreate her look with a blue pleated dress and matching high tops paired with a letterman jacket you’ll need to cut the sleeves off. Her accessories include a choker necklace, fingerless gloves, and a white belt. You can add darker accents to her clothing with a fabric marker and use an iron on patch to add the letter “P” to her jacket.
Momoko Akatsutsumi from Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z
Momoko Akatsutsumi (voiced by Emiri Katou and Nicole Bouma) is the self-proclaimed leader of PowerPuff Girls Z in the anime series Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z. Momoko’s alter ego is Hyper Blossom. She has bangs and long hair that she wears in a high ponytail with a pink bow. Her Hyper Blossom costume is mostly pink. You can recreate her look with a pink dress or a skirt and blouse if you can’t find a dress that fits your needs. If you’d like to add the navy details to the neck and hemline, use duct tape. You’ll need to remove the sleeves from a pale pink and white letterman jacket; you can add the “P” by using iron-on letters. Accessorize your costume with fingerless gloves, pink and white wristbands, a choker necklace, and earrings. Lastly, don a pair of pink and white high tops and a white belt slung low on your hips.
Kevin Levin from Ben 10
Kevin Levin (voiced by Charlie Schlatter) is a character in the Cartoon Network series Ben 10. He is an Osmosian who is at first an enemy of Ben Tennyson, though the two eventually become allies. Kevin has several different looks throughout the series. His Omniverse appearance is a little grungier and more tattered than others. To make your costume, you’ll need to be willing to distress a black t-shirt and a green striped long-sleeved shirt to wear beneath it. Use a brown eyeliner pencil to recreate the scar on Kevin’s chin and a black one to smudge around your eyes. Finish the look with a black wig, distressed jeans, black and white shoes, a blue shoulder harness, and a padlock necklace.
White Diamond
White Diamond is an antagonist in Steven Universe. Voiced by actress and singer Christine Ebersole, she is the lead member of the Great Diamond Authority that rules over the Homeworld Gems. She is the largest in stature, matching her terrifying presence. Curt and dismissive, White lives secluded in her ship until Steven convinces her to help fix the corrupted gems. Affix the gem to your forehead with lash glue.
Yellow Diamond
Yellow Diamond is an antagonist in Steven Universe. Voiced by Broadway legend Patti LuPone, she is one of the four members of the Great Diamond Authority that rules over the Homeworld Gems. Yellow Diamond specializes in the military command and supervision for colonies. Don’t dare disrespect this diamond – her temper is lethal!
Albedo from Ben 10
Albedo (voiced primarily by Yuri Lowenthal) is a recurring villain from the Ben 10 franchise. Albedo is a Galvan alien, but appears human in form. This transformation was the result of a failed bid to turn himself into a clone of Ben Tennyson. Albedo’s look is very similar to Ben, but with inverted colors. As such, he wears a black t-shirt and grey jeans with a red and black jacket. To easily recreate the circular patch on his jacket, you can use a white circle-shaped sticker and simply draw the number with a Sharpie marker.
Sara from Over the Garden Wall
Sara (voiced by Emily Brundige) appears in episodes nine and ten of Over the Garden Wall. Sara is a classmate of Wirt. She serves as her school mascot and both Wirt and Jason have a crush on her. Sara’s Halloween costume is an interesting mash-up. She wears a Nasa bomber jacket over a clown jumpsuit and her face is painted to resemble a skull. To recreate her look, you may need to get a little creative, as an exact replica of her jumpsuit is difficult to find. If you’re willing to be flexible, a sleeveless jumpsuit might stand in place with the jacket and collar over it to disguise the change. Otherwise, a dark-colored onesie might work instead, or you can DIY it a little with fabric paint and a plain, light-colored jumpsuit. If you don’t want to paint your face, a skull mask can work as well. Many of the Nasa jackets available for purchase are much more flashy than Sara’s, so a plain jacket and a few patches may be a better fit for her look. The patches can be attached by sewing, gluing, or even using double-sided wall tape.
