disney villain
King Magnifico from Wish
King Magnifico (voiced by Chris Pine) is the selfish ruler of the Kingdom of Rosas in the Disney animated film Wish. King Magnifico siphons magic from the wishes of his people, though he only grants those wishes that benefit his rule. When Asha makes a wish that brings a star down from the sky, King Magnifico declares her a traitor to the Kingdom. King Magnifico wears a cream-colored regal outfit with a white tunic, a white cape with blue lining, and a pale blue sash. You can purchase a costume set or build your own by layering two capes together over a vintage coat held closed with a blue sash. Whether you make your own costume or buy a set, you’ll also need white leggings, shoes, and a costume facial hair set that includes a grey mustache and pointed goatee.
Scar from The Lion King
Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons) is the main antagonist of the classic Disney film The Lion King. Scar is the brother of Mufasa, the ruling king, who seeks to take power from his brother and nephew in this animal twist on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Scar is lankier than his brother, with a dark mane and a scar over his left eye. There are two ways you could approach this costume. First, you could purchase a Scar mask and pair it with the lower portion of another lion costume if you’d like to go for a literal interpretation of the character. Otherwise, don’t be afraid to get creative with a wild black wig, some scar putty, and dangerously long nails for a more interpretive take on this iconic villain.
Mother Gothel from Tangled
Mother Gothel (voiced by Donna Murphy) will do anything to get her hands on that magic flower. Including raising the princess whose hair holds that power. Okay, ‘raising’ is a bit of a stretch when Rapunzel lives her life locked in a tower. But that’s enough for Mother Gothel so long as she has access the power she needs.
Gothel’s magic might be complex but her costume is pretty straightforward. A long curly black wig and burgundy velvet gown make up the brunt of her costume. All you need after that is a black cloak, black shoes, and a brown cord belt. Finally, a basket with an ornate brush and comb set make for the perfect accessories.
The Evil Queen (Queen Grimhilde)
The Evil Queen is the main antagonist in the classic Disney movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. When the magic mirror claims Snow White is the fairest of them all, she becomes jealous and vindictive. To exact her revenge, she disguises herself as an old hag, and tempts Snow White to eat a poison apple so she will fall into a deep sleep. Some comics and publicity material claim her real name is Queen Grimhilde, but it was never acknowledged in the Disney canon.
Cruella de Vil from Cruella
Emma Stone takes on the titular role of the iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil in the live action movie Cruella. The film is an origin story, tracing Cruella’s beginnings to 1970s London where she was once a young fashion designer named Estella before she became obsessed with using the fur of dogs in her clothing creations–especially Dalmatians. Cruella’s costuming is exceptional, as is to be expected of such an iconic and fashionable character since her debut in 1961’s 101 Dalmatians. Whether you choose to emulate Estella’s redheaded beginnings, or go full villain with Cruella’s signature black and white locks, try to focus on the overall silhouette rather than getting the pieces exactly right. And don’t forget to bring her signature attitude… brilliant, bad, and a little bit mad.
Jasper and Horace from 101 Dalmatians
In Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, Jasper and Horace are the bumbling henchmen of Cruella de Vil. They pass themselves off as repairmen from the electric company to get access to the 101 Dalmatian puppies in order to dognap them.
Dr. Facilier
In The Princess and the Frog, Doctor Facilier (voiced by Keith David), also known as the Shadow Man, is an evil boktor or witch doctor and voodoo shop owner who plots to rule New Orleans with the help of black magic. It is he who transforms Prince Naveen into a frog and who Princess Tiana must track down to rescue the prince.
Judge Doom
In Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd) is the much-feared judge of Toontown, where he metes out punishments like executing Toons by dipping them into vats of Dip — turpentine and acetone. He calm and without mirth, but this demeanor conceals his true identity.
Maleficent
Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) is the self-proclaimed mistress of all evil. After being snubbed from the royal christening of Princess Aurora, she curses her to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep. Talk about an overreaction. Ursula as Vanessa
Vanessa is Ursula’s human form in The Little Mermaid. She uses Ariel’s voice to seduce and hypnotize Prince Eric as part of her plan to overthrow King Triton.
