Cha-Cha from The Umbrella Academy

Cunning and sadistic, Agent Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige) works for The Handler as a time-traveling assassin, who does her job to prevent cataclysmic ends to the world (or allow them, if it’s for the greater good of the timeline) and likes it. Her current target is the Umbrella Academy’s Number Five. Does it concern her ever so slightly that her partner, Hazel, has gotten distracted and just a little bit softhearted over the friendly proprietor of the local doughnut shop? It is entirely possible.

True from True and the Rainbow Kingdom

True (voiced by Michela Luci) is the big-hearted and strong-willed main character on True and the Rainbow Kingdom. This Netflix original teaches viewers the power of empathy and gratitude as well a community and imagination. And while those watching might not have their wishes granted by The Wishing Tree like True does, they can learn from True’s compassionate nature and eagerness to help those around her!

The most iconic part of True’s costume is her hair. Her bright blue pigtails  and white headband are part of her signature. A little glue and some felt balls recreates the bow on her headband so you can more closely match her look. For the rest of her outfit you will need a white blouse with puffed sleeves and a white Peter Pan collar. A pink skirt, pink leggings, rainbow socks, and yellow rain boots complete the look. And of course a stuffed black cat can go along on your adventures the way Bartleby does with True!

Trevor Belmont from Castlevania

Trevor Belmont voiced by Richard Armitage in the Netflix animated series Castlevania is the main protagonist. Trevor’s lineage is that of the Belmont Clan, famously known as a family of vampire killers. He is the last known survivor of his family. During his travels, Trevor meets The Speakers in a town names Gresit. He notices how the people of the town prosecute them and tries to lend a helping hand. An elderly man tells Trevor that his grandson is in the catacombs seeking “the sleeping soldier” who would defeat Dracula’s army. Trevor finds Sypha Belnades turned to stone and defeats a cyclops in the catacombs. After returning above ground in Gresit, the two accidentally land back in the catacombs while battling monsters. This is where the find “the sleeping soldier” who is revealed to be Alucard. The three travel together to gather information and defeat Dracula’s army. Trevor’s personality is a bit cocky and sarcastic. He is especially rude to and untrusting of Alucard due to their family’s century-old history of hatred for each other.

Trevor’s costume deals with a lot of layering. I first recommend ordering two sizes of stencils or making your own with an Exacto knife and mylar paper. If you do decide to order a pre-cut stencil I would choose a small 4×4, and a larger 8×12 or bigger. These stencils will be for the Belmont Crest (you can find high res pictures on google). The smaller crest will go on the right side of your White Medieval Gothic Shirt. You will need to put cardboard in between and use a stencil brush for the cleanest look.  Now do that on the Brown Vest and/or The Black And Red Hooded Cloak using the same process. Once your crests are dry you can put on the outfit. The White shirt will go over your pants, followed by the Red Medieval Cowl (wrap it around almost like if you were tying a flannel around your hips). Keep everything in place with the black leather belt at your waist. Next put on the Red Harness and then the Brown Vest. after that, you can put on the other accessories. Once completed you will have a very original DIY costume for any cosplay event.

Allison Hargreaves from Umbrella Academy

Allison Hargreeves from The Umbrella Academy

On Netflix’s adaptation of The Umbrella Academy, Emily Raver-Lampman brings The Rumor to life in the form of Allison Hargreeves, an accomplished and stunningly beautiful actress whose onscreen success totally has nothing to do with her superhuman ability to manipulate anyone with her words. “I heard a rumor [that you’re going to do something I want],” is a phrase that has earned Allison many favors in the world, but also some traumatizing drawbacks. Don’t miss Allison’s 1960s yellow dress look from season 2 as well.

Emmy Altava from Professor Layton

Emmy Altava from Professor Layton

Before Luke Triton, Professor Hershel Layton had another assistant: Emmy Altava. This ambitious young woman accompanied the puzzle-solving gentleman during the events of prequel games set three years prior to Luke’s adventures with Layton. Although Emmy’s loyalty to the professor was tested during her final appearance in the series, she’s aided him many times with her martial arts prowess and investigative skills.

Muhammad Avdol

Muhammad Avdol is a character in the Stardust Crusaders arc of the hit anime Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. He’s a close friend of Joseph Joestar and a key ally in defeating Dio Brando. He provides knowledge and guidance about the Stand Users, as he wields the fire bending Stand called Magician’s Red. Muhammad is from Egypt though he knows about other local cultures as well. The pants requires some DIY: sew or glue he black ribbon around either leg of the pants in a ‘V’ shape. Then paint red circles on the silver belt and black ribbon. Use the white liner to draw his scars from inner corner of your eye down your face on both sides.

Idris Doctor Who Character

Idris from Doctor Who

Idris (Suranne Jones) is a character from the British sci-fi show Doctor Who. She appears in the episode “The Doctor’s Wife.” An evil force called The House removes the matrix, or consciousness, of the TARDIS and places it in Idris’s body. Possessed with the memories and knowledge of the TARDIS, she helps the Eleventh Doctor prevent House from escaping with the actual time machine. Her design is inspired by the Victorian era. Use hot glue to attach the two bows on your chest in a vertical fashion. Wrap the brown cardigan around your waist, tying the two sleeves in the front and letting the rest drape on the skirt. Use bobby pins to style the wig into an updo — the messier the better. Pair this costume with a bit of blush and lipstick and you’re ready to meet the Doctor!

lili from journal of the mysterious creatures

Lili Ryu from Journal of the Mysterious Creatures

Lili Ryu (voiced by Aya Susaki) is a werewolf and one of the main character in the anime Journal of the Mysterious Creatures.  Lili is the new roommate of Yoshihito, a 23-year-old man without a girlfriend or job.  As Lili is viewing the house, she is attacked by the vampire Vivian.  Lili’s outfit shows off her affinity for dogs, and can be super fun for a dog lover to put together.  If you cannot find a crop top that suits her outfit, you can always purchase a normal t-shirt and then cut it to the exact length you want.

Yorkie and Kelly from “San Junipero”

Yorkie (MacKenzie Davis) and Kelly Booth (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) are the protagonists of “San Junipero,” an episode of the British sci-fi anthology, Black Mirror. The episode has been critically acclaimed and has won two Emmy awards. Set in the beach resort town of San Junipero, the plot centers around Yorkie and Kelly’s love story throughout the decades. Its twist reveals an elderly Yorkie on her deathbed, for the town is part of nostalgia therapy that involves simulated reality. When Kelly dies, she chooses to join Yorkie in San Junipero so they can be eternally happily together. This would make a great couples costume for fans of the show. For Kelly’s look, use hot glue or E6000 to adhere the rhinestones on the collar and all around the purple fringe jacket. Then attach the rhinestone patches to each shoulder. You can get a better look of her jacket here.
