In GI Joe, Sgt. Slaughter was a drill instructor with the United States Marine Corps who was literally born on Parris Island. He's the toughest, no-nonsense member of all the Joes. He's inspired by the pro wrestler Robert Rudolph Remus who performed under the same name and voiced him in the 1980s Sunbow cartoon. Slaughter's standard uniform was a black tank top, camo pants, mirrored sunglasses, and a big bushy mustache.
