Umbrella Renoir from Skullgirls
Umbrella Renoir (voiced by Ayaka Shimizu and Cassandra Lee Morris) is a character from the Skullgirls video game franchise. Umbrella is the younger sister of Parasoul. Umbrella is rather short with light pink hair. She wears a yellow ensemble that includes a raincoat, rain hat, and rain boots. She wields the Living Weapon Hungren; a purple umbrella with monster eyes. To recreate Hungren, take a purple golf umbrella and glue creepy monster eyes onto it with a glue gun.
Valentine from Skullgirls
Valentine (voiced by Asami Imai and Laura Post) is an antagonist from the fighting game Skullgirls. A surviving member of the Last Hope, Valentine aids Brain Drain in kidnapping and transforming Painwheel. Valentine has blue hair she wears in a ponytail. Her dress looks a lot like a sexy nurse uniform, and you can update your costume to be more accurate with pink fabric paint on the dress and cap. She also wears white flats, bandages wrapped around her calves, and white gloves. She carries a hacksaw. You can tie pink ribbon into shape and glue it to your leg wraps to get closer to her look from the game. Lastly, Valentine wears a patch over her heavily scarred right eye, so you’ll need an adhesive eye patch.
Painwheel from Skullgirls
Painwheel (voiced by Izumi Kitta and Danielle McRae) is one of the eight original playable characters in the fighting game Skullgirls. She was kidnapped and eventually transformed into her terrifying form by Valentine and Brain Drain. Painwheel has brown hair that is mostly pulled back, though two pieces are left free to frame her face. She also wears a creepy stitched mask with red eyes. You can choose a full-face or half-face mask that is similar depending on your comfort level. Painwheel’s clothing mostly consists of a high-neck sleeveless dress with thigh slits on both sides and cuffs around her wrists, ankles, and throat. You can take a pair of scissors to your preferred dress to cut it to length. A large part of Painwheel’s transformation is the weapon attached to her back, which resembles a large shuriken or a pinwheel, part of her namesake. To recreate this aspect, you can purchase a replica oversized shuriken and attach it to your back or take a pair of costume wings and paint them metallic silver. Lastly, paint your nails and draw dark veins using an eyeliner pencil. You can also replicate the nails that stick out of her body using wooden golf tees and liquid latex to hold them in place.
Toadette from Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Toadette is a recurring Toad character from the Super Mario Bros. franchise. She is one of the playable characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder alongside Mario, Luigi, and others. Unlike other Toads, Toadette’s color scheme is almost entirely pink. Her outfit consists of brown shoes, white pants, and a pink dress layered beneath a red and gold vest. When deciding how to create your Toadette hat, you may want to purchase a pre-made crochet version. Otherwise, you can use a pink mushroom beret and then add your own pom-poms by running a string of thread from the brim of your hat and through the pom-poms before tying it off at the end.
Dwight Fairfield from Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim
If you’ve ever wanted to date some of your horror favorites, then Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim is the game you’ve been waiting for. It allows players to romance creepy killers including the Huntress, the Trapper, the Wraith, and the Spirit. Dwight Fairfield and other survivors also make cameo appearances. Dwight’s look in the dating sim spin-off is quite different from his original costume. He still has his messy brown hair and square glasses, but he trades out blood stains for a green and white hibiscus shirt, tan shorts, and a yellow neckerchief. Finish the beachy look with outdoor-friendly shoes and a grey watch.
Parasoul Renoir from Skullgirls
Parasoul Renoir (voiced by Rie Tanaka and Erin Fitzgerald) is one of the original playable characters in the fighting game Skullgirls. The princess of the Renoir family, Parasoul is also Umbrella‘s older sister. Parasoul has red hair with bangs that she sweeps over her right eye. She wears a black outfit with a high neck, long sleeves, and a mini skirt. She pairs her clothes with black flats and a silver necklace with the cross of St. Peter, the same worn by her mother. For her weaponry, Parasoul favors a Luger pistol and the Living Weapon Krieg, which looks like a large, black umbrella.
Sylvia from Platonic
Sylvia (played by Rose Byrne) is a married mother of three who reconnects with her friend Will following his divorce to kick off the Apple TV series Platonic. Though she is typically level-headed and responsible, she and Will often find themselves in somewhat ridiculous situations, which can cause tension in her other relationships. Sylvia wears a number of different outfits throughout the show, including a mustard-colored sweater that makes more than one appearance, and a practical brown leather purse. After a trip to a Johnny 66, she wears a trucker hat, black crop top, and black high-waisted shorts. When she meets the owner of the franchise later, she wears a blue and white dotted dress with her mustard sweater layered over top. She tends to favor gold earrings to accessorize her outfits.
Maria from Dead by Daylight x Silent Hill
Maria (voiced by Amy O’Grady) is a character from the Silent Hill franchise who appears in Dead by Daylight as well. In her original game, Maria looks nearly identical to James Sunderland‘s late wife. Maria has short blonde hair with pink tips and wears a pink animal print mini skirt, cropped sweater, and brown boots. She also has a pink butterfly tattoo on her abdomen and accessorizes with a pink choker necklace, blue belt, and waist chain with gold medallions. You can add pink highlights to a blonde wig with a chalk hair comb and use a temporary tattoo to emulate her look. While you might not be able to find an exact match for her skirt or choker necklace, similar options exist, so choose whichever you like best.
Ember Lumen from Elemental
Ember Lumen (voiced by Leah Lewis) is the protagonist of the Disney and Pixar film Elemental. Ember is made of fire and struggles to maintain her temper. She loves her parents and helps them run their shop even though it isn’t her dream. After she meets Wade Ripple, Ember eventually learns to reel in her temper and go after what she really wants. To recreate Ember’s fiery look, you’ll need to be a little creative. Layering sheer red pieces beneath your dress and jacket will help you appear more flame-like. Use a bodysuit, pants, and heels, as well as opera gloves. Ruched or fluttery pieces will evoke more of the rippling flame appearance Ember has in the movie. You can tuck the pants into your heels to help them taper at the bottom. Ember’s dress is sleeveless and high-collared with a diamond-like pattern. You can choose a longer-sleeved version or layer a beaded dress over a plain black one. Finish the look with a flame wig, a colorful bomber jacket, and a gold belt.
Human Shrek from Shrek 2
In Shrek 2, the usually unattractive ogre Shrek finds himself temporarily transformed into a handsome human. In his new form, he must thwart Fairy Godmother‘s plan to have Fiona fall in love with Prince Charming. Because his body changes size when he transforms, Shrek must steal new clothes when he becomes a human. His new look includes dark green leggings, a tunic, and a red and green vest. You may not be able to find an exact match for his vest, so choose one with a similar color palette or a silhouette. Finish your look with a great head of brown hair, and brown shoes.
