Moira Rose from Schitt’s Creek
Moira Rose (played by Catherine O’Hara) is the wife of Johnny and mother of David and Alexis on the Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek. Moira is an ex-soap star, and her fashion sense is as quirky and eccentric as her personality, making her a fun character to emulate. To recrate some of Moira’s iconic looks, you’ll need to be bold in your layering to achieve the appearance of the high-end pieces she often sports. For instance, a pair of cutout leggings over sheer black tights can evoke the same feel as the expensive Proenza Schouler tights she wears in the third picture.
Ryuk from Death Note
Ryuk is the shinigami who gives Light the notebook that allows him to kill people by simply writing their names in Death Note. Ryuk is an intimidating figure. As a god of death, it makes sense that his aesthetic relies heavily on dark colors and skull imagery. If you have any chains or accessories leftover from your punk phase, this is a great time to reuse them. If you want to go the extra mile, there are also plenty of makeup tutorials for recreating Ryuk’s terrifying face or you could purchase a latex Ryuk mask if the more subtle face covering options aren’t to your liking.
Dani Clayton from The Haunting of Bly Manor
Dani Clayton (played by Victoria Pedretti) is the protagonist of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix horror mini series The Haunting of Bly Manor. Dani is a young American hired by a rich British businessman to care for his niece and nephew, Flora and Miles, at their family estate in the country. The children have recently been orphaned and lost their last governess to suicide. The framing of the story begins in 2007, but the events depicted in the series take place in 1987, allowing for lots of fun era-appropriate wardrobe choices in order to emulate Dani’s style.
Jamie from The Haunting of Bly Manor
Jamie (played by Amelia Eve) is the groundskeeper of the lush country estate at the heart of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix mini series The Haunting of Bly Manor. Jamie is also Dani’s love interest. Jamie’s attire consists primarily of functional clothing suited to her work life; she can often be found sporting oversized coveralls and muddy boots as she completes her duties.
Bob Newby from Stranger Things
In season 2 of Stranger Things, Bob Newby (played by Sean Astin) is the tragic everyman dating Joyce Byers. Bob is a nerdy sweetheart with a penchant for technology and solving puzzles. Bob eventually meets his end at the hands of a demodog after helping Joyce, Hopper, and others escape from Hawkins lab. Bob’s clothing is fairly basic. He is often seen wearing business casual clothing for his job at RadioShack, and he is given scrubs to wear at Hawkins lab.
Mary White from Open 24 Hours
Mary White (played by Vanessa Grasse) is a woman seeking to build a new life following a stint in prison in the horror film Open 24 Hours. Mary’s ex-boyfriend was a violent serial killer, and though her attempt to kill him did not succeed, he is safely behind bars. When Mary takes a job working the graveyard shift at a 24-hour gas station, the line between reality and delusion blurs, resulting in a violent first night on the job. Mary’s costume is simple: grey Converse, skinny jeans, and a plaid shirt. When looking to recreate her look, find a flannel with a pop of purple, red, or pink to give it a feminine flair.
Judy Jetson from The Jetsons
Judy Jetson (voiced by Janet Waldo) is the daughter of Jane and George, and older sister of Elroy. Judy is a typical teenager, with many of her interests revolving around boys and her electronic diary DiDi. Judy wears bright pink clothes and has white hair. By trimming a long white wig with side swept bangs to be shorter, and pulling it into a high ponytail, you can recreate this look.
Willow Park from The Owl House
Willow Park (voiced by Tati Gabrielle) is a talented witch on the Disney Channel series The Owl House. Willow is friends with Gus and Luz, and she has a natural affinity for plant magic. Once on the abomination track, Willow now follows the plant track at Hexside. Willow’s costuming is very classically elven in nature, consisting of green underlayers, black boots, and a cowl.
Crimson from Total Drama
Crimson (voiced by Stacey DePasse) is a brooding character from the cartoon parody show Total Drama. Crimson and her boyfriend Ennui are contestants in The Ridonculous Race. Crimson is quite knowledgeable, though she has a very limited emotional range. She is committed to her boyfriend, even when he sports his de-gothed appearance. Crimson’s style consists of dark reds and blacks, and is the perfect chance to reboot some of your old Hot Topic gear from your high school days.
Kevin Tran from Supernatural
On the CW show Supernatural, Kevin Tran (played by Osric Chau) is originally introduced as an extremely intelligent high school student who is dedicated to maintaining straight As. However, he is soon transformed into a prophet of God, and helps Sam and Dean by translating tablets related to the Leviathans, Demons, and Angels. Kevin is eventually killed and now roams the Earth as a ghost rather than return to Hell. Finding a Supernatural-style tablet can be difficult and expensive, but you could DIY your own stand-in with a slate charcuterie board or tile and a fine tip chalk marker.
