Ladybug from Miraculous Ladybug
Ladybug is the superhero alter ego of Marinette Dupain-Cheng (voiced by Cristina Vee in the English dub) in the French animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. As Ladybug, Marinette takes her role very seriously and crime fighting persona allows her to project more confidence than when she is herself. She is the princess of the Kingdom of Snows and is the youngest member of the Rebellion Like Perfuma and Mermista, she is an Elemental Princess with a connection to the Fractal Flake. This connection grants her magical abilities over ice such as cyrokenesis. Personality-wise, Frosta moves from strict to reckless, often charging into fights without thinking it over. She also enjoys humor, namely her ice puns.
Caillou
Four-year-old Caillou (voiced by Annie Bovaird) is the bald-headed protagonist of the Canadian PBS Kids’ show Caillou. Caillou is often considered the bane of parents of young children because his antics on the show are considered spoiled and bratty by many adults. Caillou’s outfit consists of bright primary colors. If you choose to include a hat like Caillou’s, you can purchase a novelty baseball cap with multicolored panels like the one shown here and remove the propeller, as finding a standard cap with multicolor panels can be difficult.
Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail
Erza Scarlet (voiced by Sayaka Ohara and Colleen Clickenbeard) is an S-Class Mage in the anime series Fairy Tail. She is a member of Team Natsu and a former partner of Gray Fullbuster. Erza has long red hair and an artificial right eye. She wears her Guild Mark on her upper left arm, though it is mostly covered by her armor. Erza wears custom silver armor, a blue skirt, and black boots. A replica sword and armor can be cost prohibitive, but by layering a silver bustier with smaller metal armor details and using a similar-looking sword, you can evoke Erza’s costume feel at a lower price point.
Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail
Gray Fullbuster (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura and Newton Pittman) is a Mage and member of Team Natsu of the Fairy Tail Guild in the anime series Fairy Tail. Gray’s previous partners include Erza Scarlet. Gray does not always wear the same costume, but his standard look includes a silver necklace with a blue stone and a blue Guild Mark on his right pectoral muscle.
Larryboy from VeggieTales
LarryBoy is the superhero alter ego of Larry the Cucumber (voiced by Mike Nawrocki). He uses every power in his control to be the best superhero he can be. Which, generally speaking, are his plunger ears. Those and his LarryMobile which is as close to all-terrain as it can get!
Cosplaying as LarryBoy means taking a few liberties with the look. Larry is, after all, a cucumber. He has no arms or legs. You, as a human, are going to have to improvise.
To that end, use a white long sleeve lace-up shirt as his top and paint on a yellow vest and ties using fabric paint, reminiscent of Silver Age hero costumes. A pair of purple shorts worn over yellow running pants will give you the purple bottoms while still sticking to that Silver Age style. A back belt serves as a utility belt while yellow foam and silver paint can recreate his belt buckle. You can either hot glue this to your belt buckle or glue a magnet to the back of the foam, depending on how permanent you want the modification to be.
Larry’s hat is where it gets a little tricky. Plungers can be kind of heavy. But if you can find two lightweight ones, you can cut the posts down and glue them to either side of a purple mask. Purple foam and more hot glue gives you the crest of his mask while green face paint gives you the signature cucumber look. Then all you need is a pair of black hero boots to finish off your costume.
Touka Kirishima from Tokyo Ghoul
Touka Kirishima (voiced by Sora Amamiya and Brina Palencia) is a ghoul and the eventual wife of Ken Kaneki in the anime and manga series Tokyo Ghoul. Touka’s normal appearance includes dark purple hair that falls over one eye. When she hunts, Touka dons a long hooded coat, rabbit mask, and pinkish wig to conceal her identity.
Kaya Irimi from Tokyo Ghoul
Kaya Irimi (voiced by Fuyuku Ono and Morgan Mabry) was a ghoul in the anime and manga series Tokyo Ghoul. Under the alias Black Dog, Kaya was the former leader of the Black Dobers, an infamous gang of ghouls who once operated out of the 20th Ward. Kaya served as older sister-like figure to Touka Kirishima. Kaya’s ghoul outfit consisted of a black doberman-like mask, long black coat with a high collar, and black leather boots.
Betty Rubble from The Flintstones
Betty Rubble stole the hearts of millions when she hit the air with the 1960 premier of The Flintstones. Her husband Barney and son Bamm-Bamm keep her busy most of the time. But when she gets a minute to herself you can probably find her with her best friend Wilma Flintstone.
Betty’s look is pretty iconic. Her dress is easily found as a ready-made costume that usually comes with a blue bow, though some dress tape might be handy for keeping the dress in the right spot. Once you have her dress all you’ll need is a black wig and a gorgeous plum lipstick to finish off her look.
If you plan on wearing the costume out, shoe can get tricky. Many people opt for black pumps given Betty is a bit of a prehistoric pinup. But there are other options such as skin-tone flats or “invisible shoes” like those in this tutorial.
