Cartoons
Sango from InuYasha
In the anime InuYasha, Sango (voiced by Houku Kuwashima in Japanese and Kelly Sheridan in English) is a powerful demon slayer who teams up with Miroku, Inuyasha, and Kagome. Sango eventually falls in love with and marries Miroku. Sango wears two distinct outfits, her pink and green kimono and her black and pink demon slaying uniform. Her signature weapon is Hiraikotsu, a giant boomerang made from the purified bones of demons. A replica of this weapon may be somewhat expensive, but it will truly elevate your costume. If you are crafty, perhaps you can even make your own!
Ruff Ruffman from FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman
Ruff Ruffman (voiced by Jim Conroy) is the titular talk show host of the PBS Kids’ show FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman, a reality-based game show where children competed for prizes. Ruff is a chubby dog with an outgoing personality. To dress like him, you’ll want an oversized costume, a pair of round glasses, and some face paint crayons to complete the dog-like transformation.
Miroku from InuYasha
Miroku (voiced by Kōji Tsujitani in the Japanese and Kirby Morrow in the English) is a monk and an ally of Inuyasha and Kagome, in the anime series InuYasha. Miroku is the current wielder of the Kazaana or Wind Tunnel, a curse that manifests as a black hole in his right hand. Miroku seals the Wind Tunnel with arm coverings and his prayer beads. Miroku falls in love with and eventually marries Sango, a Demon Slayer. Finding purple monk’s robes is almost impossible, but some clever folding and tying of a large tablecloth can help evoke the same effect.
Professor Paradox from Ben 10
Professor Paradox (voiced by David McCallum) is a time travelling professor on the Cartoon Network show Ben 10. Professor Paradox forgot his true name long ago and adopted his current moniker after escaping from an alternate reality. Professor Paradox has two main costumes; a simple modern design with a lab coat, green goggles, brown vest, black tie and slacks, and then a more elaborate look that includes a metal gauntlet, riding boots, and walking stick. Both designs use the black pants and vest, and you can add accessories to these pieces in order to emulate the version you are interested in replicating.
Riley Andersen from Inside Out
Riley Andersen (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) is a main character in the Disney/Pixar film Inside Out. Much of the action of the film takes place inside of Riley’s brain as Joy, Anger, Fear, Sadness, and Disgust work together to help her adjust to her life in a new home. Riley’s costuming often reflects her moods, but her yellow jacket and blue backpack are two of her most well recognized accessories. Riley is also a fan of ice hockey, and eventually becomes a member of the Fog Horns, a youth team in San Francisco.
Katsuki Bakugo
Katsuki Bakugo is a student in class 1-A at U.A. High School. Also known by his nickname, Kacchan, his Quirk is Explosion. This gives him the ability to create explosions from the sweat of his palms, hence his giant grenade-like gauntlets. Arrogant and short-tempered, Katsuki comes off more as an anti-hero. His aggressive behavior makes him a bully toward Izuku Midoriya, especially because Izuku doesn’t have a Quirk. Nonetheless his depiction has gradually become less antagonistic, and his incredible athleticism and perception make him a fantastic hero.
Webby Vanderquack from DuckTales
Webby Vanderquack (voiced by Kate Micucci) is a major character in the 2017 Ducktales reboot. She is the granddaughter of Bentina Beakley and adopted niece of Scrooge McDuck, whom she lovingly calls “Uncle Scrooge.” Webby is an affectionate, expressive, and adorable little duckling. Her love for animals has helped her tame dinosaurs and even snow monsters. She is never seen without her Quacky Patch doll.
Vivian from Journal of the Mysterious Creatures
Vivian (voiced by Yuko Natusyoshi) is a vampire in the anime Journal of the Mysterious Creatures. She attacks Lili Ryu while Lili is touring a house, introducing her human roommate Yoshihito to the realm of otherworldly creatures. Vivian has a very gothic look, so depending on your personal style, you may be able to use pieces from your own wardrobe to emulate her outfit. Some red fabric paint can add the bat details to her skirt and top, while layering red and black pieces together will help recreate pieces it might be difficult to find exact replicas of.
Adult Marco Diaz from Star vs. the Forces of Evil
Marco Diaz (voiced by Adam McArthur) is a main character on the Disney Channel TV show Star vs. the Forces of Evil. As Star Butterfly’s best friend on Earth, Marco plays an important role in the series. In the episode “Running with Scissors,” Marco appears as a 30-year-old version of himself in another dimension, rather than his usual 14-year-old appearance. As an adult, Marco is very muscular and sports a few ear piercings as well as a tattoo of intergalactic scissors on his left bicep. He still wears his trusty read sweatshirt, although it is now tattered and resembles more of a cape. To make yourself look like Adult Marco, you’ll want to be liberal with the tattering and tearing of your cape and pants, as well as willing to bear a bit of skin since he wears his motorcycle jacket open with the sleeves rolled up. If you’re not particularly attached the jacket, cutting the sleeves will make it much easier to achieve Marco’s look from the cartoon.
Ochaco Uraraka
Ochaco Uraraka is a student in class 1-A at U.A. High School. Her Quirk is called Zero Gravity. When she touches the pads of her fingertips together, she can cause people and things to float. Known as Uravity, she is training to become a pro hero. Fellow students describe her as the “most laid back girl” in class. Ochaco is very bubbly, yet also unintentionally blunt. Empathetic and kind, she can easily read and understand others. Ochaco has a fierce side as well, best illustrated in her strategy in competitions. She has a crush on fellow student Izuku Midoriya.
