Giulia Marcovaldo

Giulia Marcovaldo is a character in the Disney Pixar movie, Luca. She is a human girl who takes pride in being the underdog. Her father is Massimo Marcovaldo. Expressive and tomboyish, Giulia dreams of winning the Portorosso Cup and dethroning the despicable Ercole. When he picks on Luca and Alberto, she comes to their defense and eventually befriends them. The trio then forms a team to compete in the triathalon. Her interests include stargazing and attending school in Genoa, which confides in and shares with Luca. Her exclamations involve Italian cheeses, such as “Santa mozzarella!”

Calaveras from Sailor Moon

Alberto Scorfano is a character in the Disney Pixar movie, Luca. In the water, he is a blue and purple sea monster. He frequently visits the surface as a human boy. He encourages Luca to explore land and acts as a guide. Contrastingly to Luca, Alberto is daring and overzealous. His goal is to ride a real Vespa, which happens to be the prize in the Portorosso Cup. Despite claiming he’s an expert on humans, he isn’t always correct. For instance, he thinks “What’s wrong with you, stupido?” is a greeting.

He stumbles upon human treasures and grows curious about the surface. Another sea monster named Alberto finally pushes him on land, where they both resemble human boys. On the Italian coast, they meet Guilia, a human girl who wants to win the Portorosso cup. Bright and inventive, Luca longs to go to school with her so he can learn about the world. Whenever he gets nervous or fearful, he exclaims “Silenzio Bruno!”

A year later, an anime adaptation was released on Netflix. Miku is a career oriented designer with a strong work ethic. She is Tatsu’s wife, and in the TV drama, she has a daughter named Himawari. Her big secret is that she is an otaku.

Tatsu is the main character in the manga The Way of the Househusband. Written and illustrated by Kousuke Ono, it was published in the magazine Kurage Bunch since 2018, and was adapted into a live-action drama by Nippon TV in 2020. A year later, an anime adaptation was released on Netflix. Known as the “Immortal Dragon,” Tatsu is an infamous, intimidating yakuza boss. He retires from crime to support his career wife, Miku. As a result, he assumes the domestic responsibilities. This leads to comedic scenarios given his formidable appearance and background. The manga also follows his encounters with old yakuza associates and rivals.

Ryuji Ayukawa is a character in the manga Blue Period. Illustrated by Tsbuasa Yamaguchi, the series was serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine and has been collected in ten volumes. Also known as Yukachan, they are Yatora’s classmate and member of the art club. They invite Yatora to join the art club, which motivates his passion for painting. Ryuji specializes in Japanese art. When painting, they prefer to wear a French maid apron which matches their cute, feminine style. According to the LGBT character wiki, Ryuji is bisexual and non-binary.
