Banshee from the X-Men
Banshee – also known as Sean Cassidy – is an Irish mutant with the power of “Sonic Scream”. He first appeared in X-Men #28 (1967) and has made a few appearanes throughout various runs since then. Cassidy is both a former NYPD officer as well as an Interpol agent. When Banshee works with the X-Men he is usually a full decade or more older than the other members of his team and is usually places in a mentor role.
Although the character appears in X-Men: First Class he is best known from his portrayal in the comics. And though the specifics of his costume have changed there are a few things that stay constant. His suit is always green with yellow markings on the chest. You can use fabric paint to get the exact markings you want so that you can choose which costume variation to go with.
His costumes also have yellow boots and yellow gloves as well as wings of some kind that attach under the arms, along the sides, and down the legs. These can be replicated using a large shawl such as the one pictured above. Older variations of Banshee also have him smoking a long-stemmed pipe, though this accessory fell out of use in the ’90s.
Kristoff in Frozen 2
Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff, who you may know as King George III from Hamilton) is a character in Frozen 2. Rugged and broad shouldered, he works as an ice harvester with his reindeer companion, Sven. In the second movie, Kristoff accompanies the two sisters to the Enchanted Forest. While there, he struggles to propose to Princess Anna. His song, “Lost in the Woods,” express these frustrations. Kristoff helps Anna destroy the dam and save Northuldra. When they reunite with Elsa, he finally proposes, and Anna says yes. This outfit is similar to the first movie, just with a change of color palette to fit the autumn theme. Use hot glue to add fur to the collar, sleeves, and bottom of the t-shirt. You might also want to trim the sash as it looks very long.
Chris from Until Dawn
Christopher “Chris” Hartley (voiced and acted by Noah Fleiss) is the resident geek of the Until Dawn group. He’s protective and selfless to a (potentially) fatal degree.
His costume is fairly straightforward though very warm. Basic jeans and sensible boots make up the base. Cosplayers than have to layer a white graphic tee, a blue button up, a green zip-up knit sweater, and a blue winter jacket. The shirt pictured above is not the exact shirt as that shirt does not exist. But if you can get a clear image of the shirt design from the game, many shirt makers may be able to replicate it.
Cosplayers can also add a bruise to the left side of their face if they want to recreate a mid-game look after Chris has survived a few attacks. As long as they keep the layers and the glasses, the costume will still be true to the game!
Astrid Hofferson from How to Train Your Dragon
In How to Train Your Dragon, Astrid Hofferson (America Ferrera) is a young Viking woman from the Hooligan Tribe, and the eventual girlfriend of Hiccup. She’s blunt in her speech but loyal to her friends, and excelled in the training of/with her dragon. Brown fur and armor, inspired by her Viking heritage, are fixtures in her outfit.
Wes from Don’t Starve
Wes is one of the hardest characters to play in Don’t Starve. Easily scared and almost always hungry, he’s the challenge character everyone works up to. He also, oddly, has one of the most unique costumes.
Since Wes is a mime the signature of his look is the traditional mime makeup. He also has a striped umbrella and balloons that he carries around with him. His clothes are very simple but one of the few colorful outfits in the game. He wears a red and black striped shirt, black fitted pants, and black heeled boots.
Queen Anna from Frozen 2
In Frozen 2, Princess Anna of Arendelle becomes Queen Anna of Arendelle. When Elsa realizes she is the fifth spirit, and it’s best for her to stay in the Enchanted Forest, she steps down from being queen. As a result, her younger sister becomes queen. This is Anna’s coronation outfit, which resembles Elsa’s from the first movie. Be sure to show off that engagement ring from Kristoff!
Prince Nuada Silverlance from Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Hellboy II: The Golden Army was the second Hellboy movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. It bears his trademark style of the darkly fantastic and nowhere is this mor clear than in the design of Prince Nuada Silverlance, the last heir of Bethmoora.
The elves seem to draw fashion inspiration from all over and Nuda is a perfect example of this. His usual costume is tight black fabric with leather armor pieces over the top. A red waist sash is nearly the only color aside from the yellowed tips of his hair. Finding wigs with his specific coloring is difficult so you will have to add the darker tips in yourself.
It is also hard to get a replica of Nuada’s blade. Most of the ones currently on the market run between $300 and $600. Cosplayers can substitute short blades like those pictured above or they can try their hand at making their own blade out of foam or plastic. Or, if they’re lucky, a 3-D printer!
X-23 from the X-Men Comics
X-23 is a genetic clone of the famous Canadian X-Man Wolverine, successfully created in a lab by scientist Dr. Sarah Kinney after twenty-two failed attempts. Her first-ever appearance in X-Men lore was the X-Men: Evolution TV series, but was welcomed into the comic book universe with the NYX comics, which explained her origin story in a grittier fashion than the children’s cartoon before it. X-23 then entered the Marvel-Fox cinematic universe in the form of a young Mexican child in James Mangold’s Logan, but her teenage/young adult persona from the comics can be just as fun to cosplay.
Molly Finnister from Penny Dreadful: City of Angels
Molly Finister (played by Kerry Bishe) was a revivalist singer on the show Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. Although she ultimately chose death rather than continue the life her mother had trapped her in, Molly was best known for her stunning voice.
Singing like Molly isn’t easy, but her look is fairly straightforward. You’ll need a coiffed blonde wig in a ’30s style and a dress similar to those worn at that time. A handbag, nylons, and heels finish her look. Because of her religious studies, Molly carries heavy leatherbound books. And as a bonus, the book is an accessory you can use in many, many different costumes!
