Sydney “Syd” Novak is the moody teen protagonist of Netflix’s dark comedy series I Am Not Okay With This. Sydney (portrayed by Sophia Lillis of IT) is a timid 17-year-old girl beginning to realize that she has telekinetic powers, all while navigating the complexities of adolescence, family, and loss. Something shocking happens at the homecoming dance, leaving her covered in blood and exiting the school in a daze (Carrie, anyone?). In the Netflix satirical film Don’t Look Up, Jennifer Lawrence portrays Kate Dibiasky, an astronomy Ph.D. student who discovers a massive comet hurtling toward earth. Kate goes on a campaign with Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) to warn humanity of the impending extinction event. Unfortunately for the astronomer duo and for all life on earth, their warning is not taken seriously. Kate spends the entirety of the film freaking out, but definitely looks cool while doing it. The film’s costume designer went for a punk-scientist look, giving Kate a double nostril piercing and red bob with shaved temples and micro-bangs.
