Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls the Musical

“Come sit with us tomorrow, it’ll be fetch!” Gretchen Wieners is a character in the Mean Girls musical. She is a part of the Plastics as the right-hand woman to Regina George. In “Meet The Plastics,”  Gretchen sings about how she will do anything to maintain Regina’s popularity. She loves to gossip, but she’s actually quite sweet. When Cady joins the Plastics, she doesn’t have ulterior motives. In the musical, Gretchen confides in Cady that because of the crumbling friendship with Regina, she’s lost all confidence in herself. This leads to her solo song “What Is Wrong With Me?” Ashley Park originated the role of Regina on Broadway until Krystina Alabado took her place.

Regina George from Mean Girls the Musical

Regina George is the main antagonist in the musical adaptation of Mean Girls. Similar to the movie, she is the queen bee of North Shore High School and leader  of the Plastics. She befriends Cady and takes advantage of her naiveté. According to her introduction in “Meet the Plastics,” she is a massive deal. However Janis warns Cady of Regina, saying she’s the “apex predator.” Regina herself several standout songs such as “Someone Gets Hurt” and “World Burn.” Taylor Louderman originated the role on Broadway. Her outfit is trendy, preppy, and of course includes lots of pink for Wednesdays.

Janis Sarkasian from Mean Girls the Musical

Janis Sarkasian is a character in the Mean Girls musical. Similar to the movie, she is Damian’s best friend who marches to the beat of her own drum. Artsy and rebellious, she doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her. This sentiment is the main point of her song, “I’d Rather Be Me.” When Cady Heron arrives as the new student, Janis and Damian take her under their wing to seek vengeance on Regina George. Janis warns Cady not to be deceived by Regina’s niceness, as per her own experience. The only changes from the movie include the last name (Ian to Sarkasian) as well as her sexuality. Barett Wilbert Weed, who originated the role on Broadway, has confirmed that in her portrayal, Janis is a lesbian. This costume guide features a denim jacket to use as a base. Follow this tutorial,  where Ellis Claire Perlman will teach you how to paint and decorate your jacket to make it stage accurate. To achieve her punk makeup look, follow this tutorial by popular musical theater Youtuber Katherine Steele.

Damian from Mean Girls the Musical

Damian Hubbard is a character in the Mean Girls musical. Similar to the movie, he is Janis Sarkasian’s best friend who is “too gay to function” (but it’s only funny when Janis calls him that). The two take Cady Heron under their wing to navigate the cutthroat drama of American high school. Then they realize they Cady can help take down the Plastics by posing as one of them. But when Cady starts to seriously obsess over social media and her image, Damian tries to knock some sense into her with the song “Stop.” Grey Henson originated the role on Broadway. The show modernizes Damian’s look with flannel and a drag queen t-shirt.

Gretchen Weiner from Mean Girls

Gretchen Wieners from Mean Girls

Gretchen Wieners (played by Lacy Chabert) is the one non-blonde in the mean girls clique at her school. At least until Cady (played by Lindsey Lohan) starts at their school. Gretchen is largely a people-pleaser though she has her limits. And when she reaches them, watch out! Her temper can be explosive. And when it’s time to move on, Gretchen doesn’t have any problems. It turns out she’s good with people! Just don’t tell Regina that.

Gretchen has two key looks in the film. The first is her Wednesday look. After all, on Wednesday they wear pink. In Gretchen’s case this means a tight pink sweater, a gold plaid skirt, and pink heels paired with a blue purse.

Her other look is the Christmas show look. A red Santa hat, Santa babydoll dress, and black boots are all you need for that look.

In both cases you’ll want a long wavy brown wig and, if you want to carry an accessory, your very own Burn Book. Though I recommend leaving yours blank!

Regina George

In Mean Girls, Regina George (Rachel McAdams) is the queen bee of The Plastics clique. Despite her spiteful, mean, and superficial personality everyone in high school wants to be like her. So when she wears a shirt revealing her bra, of course everyone else starts doing it too.
