Harvard Sweatshirt Princess Diana
Princess Diana’s iconic 1990s look featured a casual oversized Harvard sweatshirt, which was captured as the lady dodged paparazzi and ran through the streets of London. The fit was featured in the latest season of The Crown, highlighting Diana finally starting to break free from the rigid expectations set on her as the Duchess of Windsor and wife to Prince Charles.
Snow White (2025)
Snow White is a classic Disney animated princess film that you may be familiar with. There is a brand new, live-action adaptation of it coming out next year, which starts the very talented Rachel Zegler.
To dress like Snow White from this upcoming film, starting with the top, there isn’t one out yet that is exactly like hers which looks to be a velvet material, but for now you can take the top from previous available, pre-made costumes. You can either cut off this part, but it may be easier just to wear this at the base. Over this, you’ll want to achieve the very full yellow skirt. You can wear one, or layer multiple yellow full tulle skirts. This costume cuts straight across at the waist, so wear the over-skirts slightly above the waistline of the base costume. If there is a ribbon, you can fold it under, remove it, or tuck it in. Wear white tights underneath with red ballet flats. Finally, either style your own hair in a similar fashion or style a short black wig.
Queen Clarisse Renaldi from The Princess Diaries
Queen Renaldi is a character from the 2001 film, The Princess Diaries, and is played by Julie Andrews. It tells the story of Mia, a teenager who learns she is actually a princess. She goes on a journey to learn how to be one alongside the guidance of her grandmother, Queen Renaldi.
Queen Renaldi has an elegant and age appropriate style, while still having fun elements to it. To dress like her as a queen, wear a champagne gown, white opera gloves, a tiara and matching jewelry. For a casual look, wear a light blue flowy set that can be casual or worn out.
Cinderella’s Peasant Dress in Cinderella (2015)
Cinderella is a 2015 live-action remake of the original animated Disney film. This follows the same classic story of a girl who has to live with her evil stepsisters and stepmother until she meets her Prince Charming. This film has beautiful realistic versions of the costumes we know so well, and one of them that could be recreated is her casual, “peasant dress”.
To create this look, wear a blue blouse with a maxi full blue skirt. Add a muted brick red apron to the skirt and a wrapped headband created with frayed white fabric wrapped in your hair.
Princess Anna from Frozen (Coronation Dress)
Princess Anna is a character from the popular Disney film Frozen, and is voiced by Kristen Bell. She is the sister of Queen Elsa and they both live in Arendelle. In one scene in this first film, we see Anna and Elsa attend coronation day, where Elsa is to be crowned queen and the gates of their kingdom open for the first time in forever! Anna dresses for the occasion in her iconic green and black dress. Add a black petticoat underneath to give the skirt more volume, and you can even add pantalettes underneath. She wears a necklace with this made out of a ribbon material, black ballet flats, and her hair is braided in an updo, which you can style yourself from your own hair or a wig.
Princess of Barkingburg from PAW Patrol
In PAW Patrol, the Princess of Barkingburg (voiced by Caoimhe Judd) is a kind but naive girl. She has no idea that her pet puppy, Sweetie, is not so sweet. In the Mission PAW sub-series, Sweetie has evil plans to steal the princess’s crown and become queen for herself.
Romi from Catch! Teenieping
Romi (voiced by Lie Ji-hyun in the original Korean and Catalina Natasha in the English dub) is the main protagonist of Catch! Teenieping. Romi is a princess from the Emotions Kingdom who now lives as a regular high schooler in Harmony Town while secretly collecting the Teeniepings. Romi has long pink hair and can often be found wearing the same shade throughout her outfit. It might be tricky to try to recreate her look exactly, but there are certainly ways to get close. For instance, a bright pink sailor suit could work for her season one look. Otherwise, a pink skater skirt with a puff sleeve blouse and light pink bow tie will also be a close match. To recreate her look later in the series, try to find a pink plaid skirt with attached suspenders and swap out the pink bow for a blue one. Either way, complete the look with white and pink knee socks and bright pink mary jane shoes. Lastly, a Teenieping plush can add the finishing touches to your costume if you’re a fan of props.
Flame Princess from Adventure Time
The Flame Princess (voiced by Jessica DiCicco) is a character in the cartoon series Adventure Time. Real name Phoebe, the Flame Princess is short-tempered, with a tendency for mood swings. She has two primary looks throughout the series. The first consists of a two-layered dress, which you can recreate by wearing a duster over a maxi dress, secured with a lightweight pin that has a gemstone motif. Her second look is more battle-ready, with trousers and boots, and armor with red highlights. No matter which version you choose, you’ll need a wig and face gems to adhere to your forehead. If you want to take it one step further, you can use golden yellow body paint.
Mary Tudor from The Tudors
Long before she was Bloody Mary, Mary Tudor was just the daughter of a king. A daughter pushed aside by her father when her mother fell out of favor. Then further still when first a sister and then a brother were born. Sarah Bolger plays her to perfection on “The Tudors”. And though the show doesn’t go on long enough to see the tyrant Mary would become, Bolger does an amazing job showing how a sweet girl can turn into the woman now remembered as Bloody Mary.
To copy her look, or something close to it, you’ll need a Tudor gown. Since the fashions of Mary’s day hinged on small details and intricate work that is expensive to reproduce, the gown above is simpler than something she would have worn but it is a similar style. The white socks and red flats aren’t period-accurate but they’re close enough while still being versatile pieces that can transition into other cosplays. And of course Mary would never be caught without her rosary. Finally a long brown wig and a regal red Tudor necklace complete the look.
