romantic comedy
Cameron Kweller from He’s All That
Cameron Kweller (played by Tanner Buchanan) is the antisocial high school photographer at the heart of the Netflix teen romcom He’s All That. When Padgett Sawyer is tasked with the challenge of turning Cameron from an outcast to Prom King, both students find themselves suddenly thrust into a host of unexpected situations. While Cameron’s outfits don’t change too much through the course of his makeover, he does switch out beanies and backward baseball caps for a more modern coif. His pinstriped suit, donned for a Gatsby-themed party, is a chic addition to his movie wardrobe.
Padgett Sawyer from He’s All That
Padgett Sawyer (played by Addison Rae) is the daughter of Beth Sawyer in the Netflix update to a ’90s classic romcom in He’s All That. After being humiliated by her boyfriend on a social media livestream, Padgett sets out to prove she can makeover anyone into her high school’s Prom King. But when she’s tasked with revamping the antisocial Cameron Kweller‘s look, she realizes maybe there’s more to him than meets the eye. Padgett dons a number of stylish outfits throughout the film, often opting for shades of pink and white. In an homage to her mother’s dress from the original She’s All That, Padgett wears a dark red spaghetti strap dress to her own prom.
Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones’s Diary
Bridget Jones (played by Renée Zellweger) is the every-woman heroine of Bridget Jones’s Diary and its two sequels. Bridget is an unlucky in love woman who chronicles her personal and professional life in a diary as she navigates her thirties in London. Bridget is well-known for often wearing clothing that may seem inappropriate by others’ standards, making her outfits fun to recreate. It would be difficult to find Bridget’s exact Christmas party look from the first movie, but you can evoke the same feeling by finding a vintage skirt and vest set in holiday colors. Likewise, if you’d like to replicate her look from the “absent skirt” incident from Bridget’s office, only a black mini with matching tights will do.
Natalie from Isn’t it Romantic?
Natalie doesn’t have the best luck in the love department, so she’s not one to binge watch romantic comedies. Natalie loses consciousness during an attempted mugging only to end up in a dimension exactly like a PG-13 romantic comedy. She’s not a fan of cliches, but thinks it’s her only way to escape this horrid fantasy. Natalie, played by Rebel Wilson, sets out find true love in “Isn’t it Romantic?”.
Annie Hall
In the movie Annie Hall, Alvy Singer and Annie Hall (Diane Keaton) explore their relationship to understand why it ended. Her iconic tomboy style became influential on 1970’s fashion, and can be easily recreated by rummaging through your boyfriend’s closet.
Cher from Clueless
While it may seem as though Cher has a never-ending supply of clothing, the Valley girl does have a few standard pieces. By matching a pleated skirt with knee-high socks, a Cher makeover is pretty easy to achieve. Dressing like her will also make your cell phone addiction a little less annoying to everyone else.
Holly Golightly
Audrey Hepburn plays one of her most iconic roles as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Holly transforms herself from a country girl into a Manhattan socialite, who’s goal is to marry rich. You can complete her look by having breakfast in front of a Tiffany & Co. storefront.
The Girl in The Seven Year Itch
Marilyn Monroe plays The Girl in The Seven Year Itch, in which she’s the object of her neighbor’s fantasies. It’s in this movie that one of the most iconic images in film takes place – she stands over a subway grate which causes her dress to billow in the breeze.
