Pete from Disjointed

Pete (played by Dougie Baldwin – and no, he isn’t one of the Baldwins) is the in-house grower at Ruth’s Alternative Caring, the dispensary at the heart of the show Disjointed. He’s a a kind-hearted and unassuming guy but that doesn’t mean he stays out of trouble. Between fathering his talking plants, dating the personification of marijuana, and trying to keep an AI from taking over the world he has a lot more on his plate than the pH balance of his soil!

Pete is down to earth in more than just his personality. He likes wearing neutral and earth tones. This means a tan shirt and a knit pullover with a pair of jeans suited for gardening in. A shaggy wig and a pair of sandals rounds out his look.

Carter from Disjointed

Carter (played by Tone Bell) is the security guard at Ruth’s Alternative Caring on the show Disjointed. He is also a character with one of the biggest development arcs in the show. And he is, for many, the character with the most heart wrenching backstory. An Iraq veteran with untreated PTSD, Carter struggles to process what he has been through and find peace. He does, thankfully, but it’s a long journey that Tone Bell plays phenomenally.

Carter’s look changes throughout the show, usually in a way that reflects where he is in his character arc. This version of his costume is toward the end of the first season. He’s relaxed a little and doesn’t wear a full security uniform but he’s also not entirely relaxed into casual clothes as he occasionally is in the second season.

The main pieces here are his black “Security” shirt and his combat boots. Adding in a pair of black Dickies and a black hoodie completes the look. Of course Carter is rarely without his word search book as well. Any other accessories you might want to add from the shows are entirely up to your discretion!

Olivia and The Whatnot Girl from Disjointed

Olivia and The Whatnot Girl from Disjointed

Olivia (played by Elizabeth Alderfer) is a transplant to southern California from rural Iowa. She quickly gets swept up in the business of legal marijuana when her grandma’s fudge cookies turn out to be delicious when turned into edibles! It causes some problems with her and Travis – a one-time love interest who quickly becomes her best friend – but everything turns out alright by the end.

Olivia is put together but in a casual way. She wears her long hair down and opts for long-sleeve shirts, skinny jeans, and boots. But Olivia has a dark secret – she is The Whatnot Girl. An unfortunate meme, she made for a great Halloween costume for Jenny. And she’ll be a great cosplay for you! A pink bra under a camo tank top starts off the look. Then add in some jelly bracelets, shorts, and boots. Finally clip some blonde highlights into the wig and put in some feather earrings. Don’t forget your eyeliner! And, of course, some tooth blackout and the use of her favorite word: Whatnot!

Maria from Disjointed

Maria from Disjointed

Maria (played by Nicole Sullivan) starts out as just another customer at Ruth’s Alternative Caring. Before long she’s made herself at home with the staff while she avoid a, let’s say, less than ideal marriage. Over the course of the show she becomes as much a fixture at the dispensary as any of the staff and becomes a close friend to Ruth. Maria even seems to find love in the show’s final episode, despite her earlier troubles.

Cosplaying as Maria is fairly straightforward. Start with her signature blonde hair then add in a cardigan and a  colorful shirt. A pair of tight jeans and heeled sandals completes the look. Of course Maria is usually seen with a vape pen too. We can’t recommend one but if you’ve got one already, it would make a great accessory! (Just make sure they’re allowed at whatever convention you’re attending!)

Travis from Disjointed

Travis from Disjointed

Travis (played by Aaron Moten) is the co-owner of Ruth’s Alternative Caring. He’s the most forward-thinking of the group and for good reason: he has an MBA. And while his mom might not pay much attention to it, Travis uses it to help out the dispensary in every way he can. His business ideas really put Ruth’s on the map.

Travis has a really laid back sense of fashion. To cosplay as him you’ll want a comfortable button down that you roll at your elbows. Layer a t-shirt under that and a pair of jeans with nice shoes that are also comfortable. Print up a business plan and keep it handy, too!

Jenny from Disjointed

Jenny from Disjointed

Jenny (played by Elizabeth Ho) is one of the main characters on Disjointed. She is a former medical student who struggles with aligning her appreciation for marijuana with her cultural heritage. She’s also one of the most responsible employees at Ruth’s Alternative Caring and keeps the rest of them grounded (even when she’s the one making the jokes!).

Jenny’s one signature item is her beany. She is almost never seen without one. Add in a ribbed striped top and skinny jeans with sneakers to complete her look. Of course she also always has her journal close at hand!

Tae Kwon Doug from Disjointed

Tae Kwon Doug from Disjointed

Tae Kwon Doug – also known as Douglas and played by Michael Trucco from Hush and Battlestar Galactica – is the rather inept antagonist on Disjointed. Though he starts the show firmly anti-drug (and woefully misinformed) he slowly comes around to the staff of the dispensary next to his dojang. He takes a special liking to Pete who he ends up treating as a sort of adopted son.

To cosplay as Doug you’ll want to get a dobok – the Korean term for a gi. You’ll also need a black belt and a headband as well as a few patches. It’s hard to have as many as Doug does, however, since he adds a new patch with each episode. Finish off the look with some camo camping crocs and you’re ready to take out the nearest BioWave.

Mary Jane from Disjointed

Mary Jane from Disjointed

Mary Jane (played by Missi Pyle) is the spiritual embodiment of marijuana. She appears to Pete in a time of need and gets … attached. Very attached. Clingy, even. But hey, what’s a possibly imaginary relationship with a divine being representing the plant you’ve spent your life growing to a professional like Pete?!

Mary Jane is a bit of a spin on ancient Greek gods. So the basis of her costume is a flowing green dress that attaches at the wrists as well. The attachments are covered with fake marijuana leaves which also make up her crown. A blonde wig and gold sandals finish off the look!

You will have to make her crown, unfortunately. But thankfully it’s easy to make! Start with a basic fern crown and add on fake pot leaves with a glue gun! I recommend the Chandler as it’s the one I use for all of my cosplay work.

Dank and Dabby from Disjointed

Dank and Dabby from Disjointed

It’s hard to describe Dank and Dabby. They’re unique people on their own. Together they form an entertaining duo that brings a healthy dose of adorably strange to the scene whenever they show up. Don’t let the funny fool you, though. They’re also sharp business owners, talented artists, and fiercely loyal friends.

Dank and Dabby both have distinctive styles. Dank favors stiff-brimmed hats, marijuana-themed t-shirts, dark jeans, and sneakers. Dabby’s look always includes an unusual cat t-shirt, a purple zip-front hoodie, Chuck Taylor’s, and a unique hairstyle with some of her hair up on top of her head in a top knot and the rest down around her shoulders

Ruth Whitefeather Feldman from Disjointed

Ruth Whitefeather Feldman from Disjointed

Ruth Whitefeather Feldman (Kathy Bates) is a marijuana activist and one of the core characters on the show Disjointed. She has been an activist for more than thirty years, largely fighting for the legalization of marijuana. And while she might not always be the easiest person to get along with, she really does try to help the people around her. Whether or not they really want her help!

Ruth’s look is comfortable, colorful, and casual. You’ll want to start with a long wavy wig in silver tones. A long colorful shrug and coordinating top start the outfit while cuffed jeans and slip-on shoes finish the look. Add in some chunky jewelry and a burning desire for social justice and you’re ready to heal-p people, as Ruth likes to say!
