Queen’s 1984 video for their song, “I Want To Break Free” featured the foursome dressed in drag as characters from “Coronation Street” a long-running soap opera from the United Kingdom. This includes Roger Taylor as Suzie Birchwell. Unfortunately, MTV execs and fans in the United States didn’t get it and it caused a minor controversy, stalling their career stateside, until at least the early 90s, after frontman, Freddie Mercury’s death. The video is now considered a camp classic.

Freddie is a fan favorite from the cult classic anime, manga, and live-action movie Cromartie High School. He is the manliest student in all of Cromartie, but since he’s mute no one knows anything about him. Kamiyama names him “Freddie” due to his resemblance to Freddie Mercury.

Freddie Mercury was the frontman for Queen best known for his hits “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, and “We Are the Champions”. Mercury was also well known for his stage performances and flamboyant outfits. If you’re feeling courageous, you could try on one of the many form fitting leotards that he wore on stage.
