Barbara Minerva / Cheetah from Wonder Woman 1984
In the Wonder Woman 1984 movie, Barbara Minerva (played by Kristen Wiig) is an insecure scientist who befriends Diana. After being exposed to a mystical force, Barbara eventually transforms into Cheetah, arch enemy of Wonder Woman. Barbara’s look evolves almost as much as the character. From her frumpy 80s style at the outset of the film, to the sexy animal prints she wears later, there is a lot of room to have fun with the era. Barbara’s fully evolved Cheetah form looks like a humanoid cat, so some adaptations to a standard leopard or cheetah Halloween costume can make it look more intimidating and better suited to the character.
Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess
Xena (played by Lucy Lawless on Xena: Warrior Princess) is a reformed villain originally introduced in the TV show Hercules who fights for the greater good in pursuit of redemption. Xena is a formidable warrior who takes the villager Gabrielle under her wing, eventually training her falling in love. Replica armor for Xena can be prohibitively expensive, so the easiest way to recreate her look is to find studded leather pieces that evoke the same warrior feel as many of Xena’s outfits from the show.
Umaru Doma from Himouto! Umaru-chan
Umaru Doma (voiced by Aimi Tanaka in Japanese and Emily Neves in English) is the main character of the anime Himouto! Umaru-chan. Umaru has three different “modes,” providing ample opportunity for costuming. In her “outdoor mode,” she wears a typical school uniform in burgundy. Umaru’s “indoor mode,” or what is described as her true form, is also a chibi and she wears a cozy hamster hoodie. As “UMR,” a feared gamer at the local arcade, Umaru wears a hoodie, hat, and mask to keep her identity concealed.
Gritty
On September 24, 2018, the world was introduce to the Philadelphia Flyers’ new mascot Gritty, and the Internet has never been the same. Gritty has become a viral sensation, thanks in large part to his appearance as a slightly off-kilter, oversized muppet. To really take your Gritty costume to the next level, you will want to exaggerate the size of your body and accessories. Using slippers that look like shoes, and layering your jersey and shorts over an oversized onesie will help give the appearance that you are larger than life, just like the real Gritty. And if you don’t want to shell out for the official mascot’s jersey, a simpler replica or a jersey you already own will also suffice.
Sage from Disney’s Star Darlings
Sage (voiced by Libe Barer) is a main protagonist in Disney’s Star Darlings, and a student at Starling Academy studying to be a Wish-Granter. Sage is also a member of the Starling Academy Band, where she plays guitar. Sage is a great costume for anyone who loves glitter and the color purple, as her entire appearance is based around the shade. As with all Starlings, her skin is somewhat sparkly, so don’t skimp on the body glitter for this look.
Fletcher from The Gentlemen
In the Guy Ritchie film The Gentlemen, Fletcher (played by Hugh Grant) is a journalist and private investigator who attempts to ransom information he has on Mickey Pearson through his associate Ray. Fletcher is easily swayed by the finer things in life, which Ray uses to his advantage in order to distract the investigator during their interactions. Fletcher wears a leather jacket, turtleneck, and tinted glasses throughout most of the film.
Marcus Abbott from A Quiet Place
Marcus Abbott (played by Noah Jupe) is the younger brother of Regan, and the son of Evelyn and Lee Abbott in A Quiet Place. Marcus has grown up in the post-apocalyptic world of the film and understands the importance of staying quiet. Noah is very close with his father and spends a lot of time foraging and exploring with him. Noah’s outfit consists of a knit hat and sweater with geometric prints that can be fun to mix and match with the plaid shirt he layers underneath.
Regan Abbott from A Quiet Place
Regan Abbott (played by deaf actress Millicent Simmonds) is the eldest child of Lee and Evelyn Abbott in the movie A Quiet Place. Regan has a cochlear implant, and she and her father often argue when he excludes her from activities out of fear that she will unintentionally make noise that will alert the deadly creatures they are hiding from, as they have extremely sensitive hearing. Regan communicates through American Sign Language, which the rest of her family has learned as well, allowing them to speak without sound. Regan wears a pink, blue, and white striped skirt layered with floral leggings and a striped and navy blue turtleneck shirt.
Evelyn Abbott from A Quiet Place
Evelyn Abbott (played by Emily Blunt) is the wife of Lee and mother to Regan, Marcus, and Beau in the movie A Quiet Place. During the course of the film, Evelyn also gives birth to a new baby while attempting to remain silent so as not to provoke the extraterrestrial creatures who have devastated Earth. Evelyn wears a long, flowing dress that fits comfortably over her baby belly, and a cozy sweater to stay warm. Finding the exact dress would be difficult, so choose a maxi dress with a similar pattern or color scheme to layer with a white tank top and beige cable knit cardigan.
Raymond Smith from The Gentlemen
Raymond Smith (played by Charlie Hunnam) is the right-hand man of marijuana magnate Mickey Pearson in Guy Ritchie’s film The Gentlemen. Ray spends much of the movie speaking with Fletcher, a private investigator who has been looking heavily into Mickey’s enterprise. Ray dresses quite well in accordance with his accrued wealth, and wears a pair of dark orange framed glasses.
