Spider-Man

When Peter Parker gets bit by a radioactive spider on a school field trip (don’t you hate when that happens?), he develops super strength, the ability to cling to any surface, and a spidey sense. At that point, he has no choice but to build web shooters for his wrists and call himself Spider-Man.

Storm

Storm (Halle Berry) is one of the mainstays of the X-Men. Originally from Kenya and named Ororo Munroe, she joins the superhero team after she discovers she has the ability to create tornadoes, thunderstorms, and hurricanes with her mind. All that humidity must wreak havoc on her hair.

Oldboy

On his daughter’s third birthday, businessman Oh Dae-Su is kidnapped and held for 15 long years without any human contact or explanation in Oldboy. He passes the time shadowboxing, which, along with a hammer, comes in useful when he has to fight his way through 25 gang members.

300

300 shows a slightly dramatized account of the Battle of Thermopylae, where Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) clashed with Persian King Xerxes. The vastly outnumbered Spartans make a valiant stand, but I can’t help wonder how they’d have done with some armor, or a shirt, on.

The Rocketeer

In 1930s Los Angeles, stunt pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) stumbles upon a rocket pack designed by Howard Hughes. He uses it during a show and becomes a media sensation as The Rocketeer. The fame doesn’t help though when the mob is willing to kill to get the rocket pack back for a Nazi secret agent.

Velma Dinkley

Velma Dace Dinkley is the brains behind the Scooby Doo gang, as the homely fashion and big glasses attest. She frequently loses her glasses and reminds everyone, “I can’t see without my glasses!” as if they didn’t already know. Jeepers Velma, why don’t you look into contacts already?

Shaggy Rogers

Norville “Shaggy” Rogers is not so much Scooby Doo’s master as his brother in arms. They’re both lazy, cowardly, and have insatiable appetites filled only by Scooby Snacks. His scraggly beard and cracking voice suggest that he is still dealing with puberty after 50 years. Zoinks!

Raven

Raven is a half-demon, half-human being who joins the Teen Titans. She uses her powers of teleportation, astral projection, and empathic healing to protect Jump City from various villains, which includes her father Trigon. This costume will require a bit of DIY to replicate her cape pin and jeweled sleeves in addition to modifying the necklace into a belt.

Nightcrawler

Kurt Wagner, better known as Nightcrawler, is a mutant who has the ability to teleport and crawl on walls. He’s the son of Mystique and the demonic warlord Azazel. He spent his early years with the circus but was later recruited by the X-men.

Speed Racer

Speed Racer is a boy who, not too surprisingly, loves to race cars. He wears a blue shirt with a yellow G for his Japanese name “Go”, and a white helmet with a red M for his last name Mifune – one step above having your name written in your underwear. Go Speed Racer, Go!
