Zardy from Zardy’s Maze
Zardy might be hard to avoid in his maze, but out there on Halloween night, nobody is going to want to run from this cosplay. Or if they do, at least they’ll be running for the right reasons.
Zardy is a little inhuman, but copying his look is possible. A black witch’s hat and a pumpkin mask start things off on the right track, though you can opt for face paint if the mask will be too warm. A shoulder cowl, a pair of scissors – to cut off the hood and create the V at the bottom – , some fabric glue, and orange fabric paint creates the iconic top detailing. It’s a bit of a DIY project but it layers easily over a versatile black long-sleeve pullover sweatshirt. Finish off with a pair of jeans, some shoe covers in the style of brown boots, and a farming hoe. If you don’t want to carry an actual farming tool around, you can use a costume scythe instead.
Ethan Winters from Resident Evil Village
Ethan Winters (Todd Soley/ Hidenobu Kiuchi/ Raphael Rossatto) isn’t used to giving up, least of all where Rosemary is concerned. And if that takes him into the heart of Lady Alcina Dimitrescu’s castle, well, that’s a risk he’ll have to take.
Ethan is a simple man who just wants to do right by his family. And maybe stop a few global threats in the process. His clothes are as utilitarian as his goals. They consist of a work jacket, a zip-up pullover, a t-shirt, jeans, and work boots. A brown leather belt holds a hip holster complete with a costume pistol.
Yui Kimura from Dead by Daylight
In the game Dead by Daylight, Yui Kimura is a hardened street racer who defied her father and the expectations of others to race, eventually earning a following of young female fans of the sport. Now trapped in the realm of the entity, she fights for her life and others’ by any means necessary.
Mach Rider
In the year 2112, planet Earth is overrun by the evil Quadrunners. It’s up to Mach Rider to travel from sector to sector on his superbike, destroying these enemies and searching for survivors in this Nintendo Entertainment System game from 1985. A more affordable option for the shoulder armor is to form red EVA foam into the right shape.
D-9341 from SCP Containment Breach
D-9341, eventually identified as Benjamin Oliver Walker, is the main protagonist of the horror video game SCP: Containment Breach. D-9341 is currently classified as disposable personnel at the SCP Foundation. When entities like SCP 1471-A, SCP-049, and SCP-035 begin breaking out of the Foundation’s containment protocols, D-9341 must do everything he can to survive the horrors housed within and make it out alive. D-9341 wears a standard orange-colored inmate uniform with the SCP Foundation’s insignia on the left breast and has access to a clipboard with information on some of the Foundation’s housed monsters.
Kyle Crane from Dying Light
Kyle Crane (voiced by Robert Craig Smith) is the main protagonist of the survival horror games Dying Light and Dying Light: The Following. Kyle survives in an apocalyptic world overrun by zombies infected by a mysterious epidemic. At the beginning of the game, Kyle is hired by the Global Relief Effort to retrieve files stolen from them. Once he reaches the quarantined city of Hassan, Kyle must fight against infected enemies, retrieve the stolen file, and help other survivors. Kyle’s costume is tactical and functional, consisting of black sneakers and slightly distressed jeans, with a grey utility shirt and fingerless gloves. You can get creative with accessorizing by stocking yourself with supplies you might need in a zombie apocalypse.
SCP-035 from SCP Containment Protocol
SCP-035 is an extremely dangerous object and part of the SCP Foundation’s collection in SCP: Containment Protocol. Also known as Possessive Mask, SCP-035 escapes containment along with countless other dangerous entities like SCP-1471-A and SCP-049. SCP-035 can possess anyone who wears it, which will result in their bodies decaying at an extremely fast rate. The Possessive Mask is one of the many horrors D-9341 encounters during the course of the game. To recreate the look of SCP-035, use black acrylic paint on a white comedy mask to create the long, black tear tracks that ooze from it, as well as to dirty a white shirt. Black body paint can add an additional detail by using it on your hands and arms.
The Doctor from Dead by Daylight
Herman Carter was a member of the CIA’s Project MK Ultra, who built up a reputation using electro-shock therapy to procure intel during interrogation. When investigators finally came knocking, he was long gone. The Doctor was introduced in Chapter IV of Dead by Daylight, where he now continues his research in the Realm of the Entity, shocking survivors and sacrificing them. His costume consists of a standard lab coat, but his face is horrifyingly contorted and burned, making a latex mask the best way to recreate the look.
King from Tekken 3
In the Tekken series, King I is a luchador who wears a jaguar mask when fighting. He also sometimes wears typical wrestling gear like black trunks with blue tights and black elbow pads, or a more formal outfit with trousers, suspenders, and neck tie. But for our money, King’s outfit in Tekken 3 is tops with his casual leopard-print track pants, t-shirt, and cross trainers.
The Spirit from Dead by Daylight
Rin Yamaoka was the descendant of a samurai clan and a Kendo champion. Rin’s ancestor Kazan is also a killer in the Dead by Daylight game. After being murdered by her father, she swore vengeance against him. The Entity used her fury and hatred of her father to turn her into a killer for its never-ending games of cat-and-mouse. As the Spirit, she appears blueish in color, with white bandages and shards of glass embedded in her body. You can use a traditional sarashi or white gauze bandages to recreate her costume, and follow an FX makeup tutorial such as this one to add the glass details. Her shattered katana blade may be made by either breaking a prop katana, or carefully painting one to make it appear broken.
