Emma Woodhouse from Emma
Emma Woodhouse (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) may be handsome, clever, and rich, but she can also be a bit naive and spoiled in the latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. Throughout the film, Emma wears an array of colorful and intricate period costumes, providing ample opportunity to explore the regency era and create an outfit with colors and textures that speak to you.
Alice Cullen in the Baseball Scene from Twilight
Alice Cullen is a supporting character in the Twilight saga. After being institutionalized for her visions, she became a vampire. She is part of the Cullen family as the adoptive daughter of Carlisle and Esme Cullen. She is married to Jasper Hale. As a vampire, her premonitions of the future are intensified, and are most often accurate. Alice is eccentric, yet extremely kind towards Bella Swan. Ashley Greene portrays her in the movie adaptations. In the iconic baseball scene set to “Supermassive Black Hole” by Muse, she is the pitcher. The scene opens up with a strike of lightning and thunder, and Alice announces: “It’s time.”
Billy Butcherson from Hocus Pocus
In Hocus Pocus, Billy Butcherson is Winifred’s deceased ex-boyfriend. After he cheated on her with Sarah, Winifred punished him by sowing his mouth shut. The Sanderson sisters summon him as their minion, but he ends up helping the kids defeat them. He is portrayed by actor Doug Jones. You can use black eyeliner or face paint to draw stitches over your lips. There are more detailed makeup tutorials, but be sure to paint your face and hands light green for that “just rose from the grave” look.
Jack Twist from Brokeback Mountain
Jack Twist (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) is an outspoken cowboy from the film Brokeback Mountain. Jack eventually marries Lureen while continuing to maintain a passionate, if infrequent, relationship with Ennis Del Mar. Jack expresses an interest in living with Ennis, but the latter is too afraid of the potential repercussions of living openly with Jack. Jack’s style is fairly typical of his cowboy persona, including lots of denim and a black cowboy hat.
Gilderoy Lockhart
Gilderoy Lockhart is a character in the Harry Potter book and movie series. During his time as a Ravenclaw student, he received many prestigious awards, and he isn’t shy about letting everyone know it. After graduating Hogwarts, he became a celebrity in the wizarding world. In particular he wrote books about his encounters with magical creatures, such as Gadding with Ghouls and Travels with Trolls. When Dumbledore appoints Lockhart as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Hermione becomes smitten by his knowledge. Yet Harry and Ron (and most everyone else) find him obnoxious. Although there’s more to him than meets the eye: he tricked actual accomplished wizards into revealing their stories, and then erased their memories with Memory Charms so he could take all the credit. In the film adaptation, Kenneth Branagh plays this role.
Sarah Sanderson from Hocus Pocus
Amuck amuck amuck! Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) is an antagonist in Hocus Pocus. As the youngest of the Sanderson sisters, she is ditzy yet flirtatious. Her unique power is her siren like singing voice. Some makeup tutorials use dark purple lipstick but we went with red to match her sisters. We added fake spiders, her favorite snack, as they’re cheap and show commitment to the character! Just make sure to only chew, not swallow!
Minerva McGonagall
Minerva McGonagall is a character in the Harry Potter book and movie series. She is a professor at Hogwarts as well as the head of the Gryffindor house. She teaches Transfiguration, which she has a talent for as an Animagus, as she can transfigure into a tabby cat. Minerva is a stern instructor, but she genuinely cares about the well being of her students. As a former Gryffindor student, she values courage and bravery above all else, and isn’t afraid to deduct points from her own house when its necessary. Her wisdom, intelligence, and leadership skills make her perhaps the most respected professor at Hogwarts alongside Dumbledore. In the movie adaptation, Dame Maggie Smith plays this role.
Sam from Birdman
Sam (played by Emma Stone) is the daughter of Riggan Thomson in the movie Birdman or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Sam is in recovery from a drug addiction and helps her father as his assistant while he attempts a career comeback by producing and acting in a Broadway-bound play. Sam also runs her father’s burgeoning social media pages after he goes viral following a dash through Times Square in only his socks and underwear. Sam has some distinctive tattoos on her right forearm and left shoulder.
Mike Shiner from Birdman
In Birdman or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Mike Shiner (played by Edward Norton) is an unstable method actor who performs opposite Riggan Thomson in a play being produced and directed by Riggan. Mike also becomes entangled with Riggan’s daughter, Sam, adding even more tension to the two men’s relationship as they are forced to continue working together despite their obvious distaste for one another.
Lucius Malfoy
Lucius Malfoy is an antagonist in Harry Potter. He is the husband of Narcissa Malfoy and the father of Harry’s enemy, Draco Malfoy. Bellatrix Lestrange is his sister-in-law. Lucius and his wife belong to the Death Eaters, aka the most adamant followers of Lord Voldemort. Because of his wealth and status, he takes great pride in his aristocratic status. Like Draco, he looks down upon half bloods and Muggle born wizards, for he thinks pureblood wizards are inherently superior. Lucius has a particular disdain for the Weasley family, as well as Harry Potter himself. Jason Isaacs plays this role in the film adaptation.
