Kevin McCallister from Home Alone

Kevin McCallister is the main protagonist of the Home Alone movies. When the family goes on vacation, they forget their youngest member. At first, Kevin uses the accident to his advantage, as it’s any kid’s dream to have the house to themselves. But when two criminals, Harry and Marv, who dub themselves the Wet Bandits, aim to rob the house, it’s up to Kevin to defend it. He sets up various booby traps and tricks to save the day, which makes for hilarious scenes. Macaulay Culkin stars as the clever kid turned hero in every movie except for the third installment.

Cindy Lou Who

Cindy Lou Who is a sweet young girl in How The Grinch Stole Christmas. In the original children’s book by Dr. Seuss, she is a minor character, but she becomes the secondary protagonist in the movies. This guide features her costume from the 2000 live action adaptation starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch and Taylor Momsen as Cindy. Around eight or ten years old, Cindy lives with her frazzled father in Whoville. Unlike the other Whos, she believes there is some good in the Grinch. Later she sneaks aboard the Grinch’s sleigh and helps him return all the gifts. Cindy befriends the Grinch and brings him to celebrate the holiday by singing around the giant Christmas tree. Cindy also sings  “Where Are You Christmas?” which was specifically written for that movie.

rev-9 from terminator dark fate

Rev-9 from Terminator: Dark Fate

In Terminator: Dark Fate, Legion sends a Rev-9 (played by Gabriel Luna) back in time to kill Dani Ramos, who leads the Resistance in the future. A merciless and terrifying machine, the Rev-9 is nearly unstoppable and can remove its dark black metal skeleton from its amorphous outer material to be in two places at once. The Rev-9 can take the form of anyone, and when he first confronts Dani, not only does he look like her father, but he has stolen his clothing as well.

bridget jones from bridget jones diary

Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones’s Diary

Bridget Jones (played by Renée Zellweger) is the every-woman heroine of Bridget Jones’s Diary and its two sequels. Bridget is an unlucky in love woman who chronicles her personal and professional life in a diary as she navigates her thirties in London. Bridget is well-known for often wearing clothing that may seem inappropriate by others’ standards, making her outfits fun to recreate. It would be difficult to find Bridget’s exact Christmas party look from the first movie, but you can evoke the same feeling by finding a vintage skirt and vest set in holiday colors. Likewise, if you’d like to replicate her look from the “absent skirt” incident from Bridget’s office, only a black mini with matching tights will do.

sam montgomery casual a cindrella story

Sam Montgomery from A Cinderella Story

Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) is the protagonist of A Cinderella Story, a modern adaptation of the fairytale. Sam is the Cinderella character, bossed around by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. She is shy and quiet with a love for baseball, which she learned from her late father. She confides in her online pen pal, who’s actually Austin Ames, the most popular guy at school. When he asks her to meet at the Halloween dance, Sam dresses as a masked princess. Instead of a slipper, she loses her phone, and Austin tries to figure out her identity. This costume guide features her baseball look and uniform at her stepmother’s diner.

Ponyboy Curtis from The Outsiders

Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is the protagonist and narrator of The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton. He is the youngest in the Curtis family with Soda-Pop and Darry as his older brothers. Despite being fourteen years old, he sees how the members of the Greasers function. He also learns that their rival gang, the Socs, have problems just like they do. Ponyboy is the closest to Johnny Cade in age and in mentality, as they both are more compassionate and willing to help others. The two run away together, and Ponyboy bleaches his hair so no one recognizes him. Together they save children from a burning church, which resulted in Johnny’s death. As he died, he told Ponyboy to “stay gold.” Here are three looks from the movie adaptation, where Tom Howell portrays this character. From the lines near his shoulders, it looks like he cut the sleeves off a navy blue sweater. You can also use the scissors to rip up the jeans a bit. The other two outfits are more simple, consisting of different plaid shirts. Although for his end-credits look, you will need blonde hair.

enola-enolaholmes-character

Enola Holmes

Enola Holmes is the main character of the Netflix movie, Enola Holmes. Alongside being the eponymous protagonist, she is the movie’s narrator. Based on the YA books written by Nancy Springer, Enola is the teenage sister of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Like her brother, she possesses incredible intelligence and observational skills, defying the gender norms for the era. Clever and well-read, her mother taught her everything from chess to jujitsu. Following her mother’s disappearance, she travels to London. Pretending to be a traditional Victorian woman, she deciphers and deduces the clues. Millie Bobby Brown, who you may recognize as Eleven from Stranger Things, plays the title role. This costume guide features her notable red gown, her casual blue dress (not pictured), and outfit for archery in the living room. While we can’t see the bottom half of Enola for that last look, we suggest matching white pants or a long white skirt.

John Raymond Arnold from Jurassic Park

John Raymond Arnold from Jurassic Park

“Hold onto your butts!” John Raymond Arnold was a scientist working at Jurassic Park when its catastrophic, pre-opening day massacre happened. With the park’s T-rex and velociraptors on the loose, Arnold was quick (perhaps a little too quick) to lend a hand (well, more like a whole arm) in restoring as much order as possible to the disaster.

David from The Lost Boys

David from The Lost Boys

David (played by Kiefer Sutherland) is the leader of the vampire gang menacing Santa Cruz, California in the ’80s vampire hit The Lost Boys. At least, that’s what it looks like at first. But there is always someone bigger and badder out there. Even if you’re an undead gang leader who sleeps all day and parties all night.

You might not gain David’s immortality but you can definitely copy his style. One of the most iconic – and unfortunate by modern standards – pieces of David’s look is his bleach blonde mullet. A wig will give you the same style or you can bleach your hair and style it however you want. The rest of the outfit will make it clear who you’re cosplaying!

The next thing you’ll need is a costume goatee. You may have to lighten it with makeup. Or, if you prefer, you can create a goatee using this tutorial and makeup. You will also need a pair of vampire fangs and a few fake earrings.

The rest of David’s look comes down to clothes. David is a classic ’80s tough guy in a whole lot of black leather. His gloves, motorcycle boots, and pants are all black leather. He does wear a black cotton shirt and black wool pea coat. But between the pea coat and his shirt is something with a leather collar that he layers over the collar of his coat. It is most likely a motorcycle vest left open to reveal the shirt underneath.

At this point you’ve got a great David cosplay. But you can go one step beyond by making the wine bottle used in the vampire ritual too! All you need is  a wine bottle, some copper-colored clay, fake rubies, and a glue gun. Form the clay pieces according to a screenshot of the bottle (don’t forget to bend them to fit the bottle too!). Press in the rubies to create indents for them, then then pull them out and create place fillers out of tin foil. Bake the clay according to direction When they’re done, use the glue gun to apply the rubies and then glue the clay to the outside of the bottle. Voila! You have yourself your own spoofy vampire ritual bottle!

Baron Helmut Zemo from Captain America Civil War

Baron Helmut Zemo from Captain America: Civil War

Baron Helmut Zemo is a classic Marvel villain. He was brought to life in Captain America: Civil War by Daniel Bruhl. And though his character is not quite so evil in the movie as in the comics, his impact is just as strong. After all, who can’t relate to the desire to stop those we blame for our family’s deaths?

Zemo’s costume in the movie is much simpler than in the comics. He wants to blend in and so he wears clothes that are easy to ignore. A grey sports coat and matching dress pants. A black button down, black leather belt, and black leather shoes. He has a little bit of stubble growing in but nothing noteworthy. And his brown hair is styled with a simple side-sweep.

His only visible accessory is a brown leather shoulder bag. But the bag isn’t as important as what’s inside. To really complete a Zemo costume you need the red notebook that contains the code words that give you control of the Winter Soldier. You can also get a copy of Mission Report: December 16th 1991 if you want to add a bit more to the bag.

Of course this costume also makes it easy to pay Zemo’s comic origins a little homage. A purple ski mask and a golden circlet crown is an easy – if a bit cheeky – addition to the costume.
