Phoebe Bridgers from Boygenius: The Film

Boygenius, a band that includes singers Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker. They recently released their new album The Record and created, as well as starred, in a short film of three music videos directed by Kristen Stewart called The Film. The three songs featured are called $20, Emily I’m Sorry, and True Blue. The artists wear similar outfits throughout all three videos, but each are unique to each person. In the final song True Blue, they paint a room completely blue and end up with it on themselves, which can be recreated with fabric paint, acrylic paint, and blue face paint for the skin.

To dress like Phoebe Bridgers in the video, wear a white tshirt, blue and white striped shorts or pj shorts, and to add more you can layer a gray Carhartt jacket just like she wears during the first song $20.

Lizzie Borden from Living Dead Dolls

Lizzie is from the second series of Living Dead Dolls, and is the second doll to be based off of a real person (ie, Lizzie Borden). The doll can be found at the Borden house, shown on display.

She has her copper hair worn up in a tight, high bun, with loose curls coming down on to her forehead, black sclera eyes with vibrant bluey-white in the center, and very dark red lipstick. Her dress is older-styled, with large black puff sleeves, a very long skirt, and a red ribbon tied loosely at her neck. As with the known rhyme, she carries a bloodied axe (though Lizzie was found innocent).

lancer from deltarune

Lancer from Deltarune

Lancer is a main character from the game Deltarune.  A Darkner like Spamton, Ralsei, and Jevil, Lancer is white and black with blue details including and looks like a spade from a deck of cards.  For your costume, you can start with a white full-body suit.  Wear a blue hood, blue gloves, and blue shoes.  Add an iron-on blue spade decal to a black leotard to wear over top and you’re ready to go.

nimona

Nimona from Nimona (2023)

Nimona (voiced by Chloe Grace Moretz) is the titular young sidekick of the Netflix adaptation of ND Stevenson’s comic of the same name.  Nimona is a shapeshifter and sidekick to Ballister Boldheart, who is framed for Queen Valerin’s murder.  Nimona can take the form of many animals, but she most often appears as a young human girl.  As a human, Nimona wears brown boots and silver armor beneath a red vest, skirt, and belt.  To recreate her armored shorts, cut a pair of shiny silver leggings to fit.  Then, layer a burgundy skirt and brown belt overtop.  For the rest of her costume, use a brown short-sleeved turtleneck, layer a red tunic over it, and add dragon-scale epaulets to emulate her armor.  You’ll also need to style a short ginger wig and use brown wrappings around your forearms and hands.

adelina fortnight from missing link

Adelina Fortnight from Missing Link

Adelina Fortnight (voiced by Zoe Saldana) is a character in the stop motion animated film Missing Link.  At the beginning of the movie, the widowed Adelina is angry at Sir Lionel Frost for missing her late husband’s funeral.  Eventually, the two set aside their differences to travel to the Himalayas with the Sasquatch Susan Link to visit his Yeti cousins.  Adelina dresses in Victorian garb to adhere to the timeframe of the movie.  She wears her dark hair in a bun with a few tendrils framing her face and has a beauty mark on her chin which you can recreate with an eyeliner pencil.  When choosing a dress, you can choose to look for one with a pattern similar to Adelina’s or one with a higher collar, though you may not find an exact match.  Complete your look with heels and lace gloves.

Posey from Living Dead Dolls

Posey is from the first run of Living Dead Dolls, and is labeled as a ‘buried alive’ character.

She has extremely long golden-auburn hair worn in a mid-part, fully whited out eyes with blue ringing them and matching lipstick, and a wound over her eye. Her outfit is similar to an old styled nightgown, but weathered in a way that looks like it was saturated in mud. Her doll accessory is a single white rose.

Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist

Riza (voiced in Japanese by Michiko Neya [2003] and Fumiko Orikasa [2009], and in English by Colleen Clinkenbeard [Funimation Dub] and Muriel Hofmann [Animax Dub]) is a major character in the Fullmetal Alchemist series.

She is Roy Mustang’s closest confidant and personal bodyguard, as well as the military’s best sharpshooter specialist, in addition to her rank as Lieutenant. She also has a pet dog named Black Hayate that she acquired after he was brought in by Fuery, being the only one suitable in the crew for taking care of him.

Riza has long, golden hair, usually worn up in the back with a flat brown clip, and her eyes are a deep chocolatey brown. She also wears silver stud earrings. The main outfit we see her in is a rank-specific Amestrian military uniform, all in that shade of medium blue, with silver detailing everywhere. She also wears black, shin-high boots, and is generally seen carrying some sort of firearm (she has a few, up to you which one would work best for your cosplay purposes, please keep in mind that cons generally have peace-bonding restrictions on prop guns!).

Homura Akemi from Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Homura (voiced in Japanese by Chiwa Saito and in English by Cristina Valenzuela) is one of the major main characters in the anime/manga series Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

She is a very diversely written character, treading a fine line between being the protagonist and technically being the villain, due to the constant wearing down on her mental state from every new time iteration she goes through to keep Madoka safe. For this one, I’ve chosen to do her main magical girl outfit.

Homura has very long black hair, that she wears a dark headband on, and greyish purple eyes. Her magical girl outfit consists of a white, grey, and black top with a purple ribbon on the neck, a grey and white skirt, and black tights with purple diamonds down the sides, which lead into a sort of high-heel end (I included some flats if you want it to blend in better with the tights, but high heels of choice are also an option). She also carries her reality warping shield while in combat.

Reimi Sugimoto

Reimi Sugimoto is a character in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. She appears in the fourth part, Diamond is Unbreakable. She roams the hidden streets of Moiroh as a friendly ghost, seeking help to bring her killer, Yoshikage Kira, to justice. She later meets Rohan Kishibe and Koichi Hirose, who vow to catch Kira. Reimi recognizes Rohan, for she saved him from Kira when he was a baby. Although trapped in the alleyways, Reimi is a friendly, playful girl. You can usually find Reimi accompanied by her dog, Arnold, who was also Kira’s victim.

Olivier Mira Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Olivier (voiced in Japanese by Yōko Sōmi and in English by Stephanie Young) is an important character in the later half of the Fullmetal Alchemist series, only seen in the manga and Brotherhood.

Like her younger brother Alex, she is part of the army that the majority of the rest of the cast report under, and is a high ranking Major General, stationed at Fort Briggs of Amestris. While known for her steady and unrelenting leadership, leading to her having the nickname of ‘Ice Queen’, she also cares very deeply for her subordinates, giving them unexpectedly leeway while still maintaining a front of control.

Olivier has the same light golden hair as the rest of her family, worn long and down over one eye, with her other visible one a very pretty blue. Her lips are also very full and glossy. The uniform she wears is a slightly different version to the regular Amestris army one that we see, as she’s stationed in a much colder place. The base uniform is still the same, in those specific shade of blues and silvers, but she wears a thick black coat with a white fur trim over top, with white gloves, and shin-high black boots. Her weapon of choice is a sword that she keeps on her person.
