Thom Yorke from MTV Beach House

In 1993, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke put on a legendary performance Live at the MTV Beach House. The alternative band played their mega-hit single Creep, but the concert has since become better known for their other track, Anyone Can Play Guitar. During this song, Thom goes bananas, screaming “fat, ugly, dead” before jumping into the swimming pool. Although the spring-breakers watching the spectacle at the beach house weren’t aware, it turned out that in this act, Thom nearly killed himself, simultaneously through electrocution and drowning. The bleached blonde hair, done up in a ponytail, as well as the striped black shirt, are a not-so-subtle nod to grunge rockstar Kurt Cobain, whose band Nirvana ruled the airwaves at the time.

Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl is an American rock musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. From 1990 to 1994, he was the drummer of Nirvana, the grunge rock band featuring Kurt Cobain and Kris Novoselic. Afterwards, he founded Foo Fighters, for which he sings, writes songs, and plays guitar. Some notable Foo Fighters songs include “Everlong” and “My Hero.”

D’arcy Wretzky

D’arcy Wretzky is the bass player of the alternative band The Smashing Pumpkins. Next to Courtney Love, she was a inspiration for alternative teenage girls of the 1990’s. If you want to pull off a grungy chic look, you’ve come to the right place.

There’s two outfits of hers that really stand out, worn during Lollapalooza in the ’90s. Fashion pieces that are certainly mainstream again: The first, a silver sleek silk camisole, a sheer black cardigan, some mom jeans, black sunglasses, and black boots. The second, the infamous orange & red striped long-sleeved shirt, black leggings, and another pair of black shades.

Wayne Campbell

Wayne Campbell, played by Mike Myers, co-hosts public access cable show Wayne’s World out of his parent’s basement in Aurora, Illinois. He likes to play air guitar, accompanied by best friend Garth Algar’s air drums. Schwing!

Garth Algar

Garth Algar, played by Dana Carvey, is a timid, high-strung heavy metal fan. He’s sidekick to Wayne Campbell and co-host of public-access television show Wayne’s World. He’s been rocking plastic glasses and flannels since before it was cool. Party on, Garth.

Courtney Love

When Courtney Love burst onto the music scene in the ’90s her tattered baby doll style received just as much attention as her music and constant tabloid headlines. She became a fashion icon for teenage girls everywhere.

Kurt Cobain

Considered by many to be the “King of Grunge Rock”, singer/songwriter/guitarist frontman of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, became the unwillingly leader of a generation. His jaded attitude and “don’t care” appearance was something to which many kids could relate. Though his life was cut short, his music remains influential to this day.
