Marmee from Little Women (2019)
Marmee is a character from (the 2019 version) Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig, and is played by Laura Dern. Little Women follows the classic story of sisters who are artists with big dreams and personalities. It follows the struggles and joys they all encounter together in the civil-war era.
Marmee is the mother of the March sisters. To dress like Marmee as she dresses at Meg’s wedding, for this wearable take on it, wear a green dress/ coat layered over a red skirt that matches a red/ rust-colored wide velvet ribbon at the collar. For another look, wear a long sleeve navy blue dress with a striped apron at the waist.
Beth March from Little Women
Beth March (played by Eliza Scanlen) is the most fragile of the March sisters in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Beth takes after her mother and spends much of her time helping to care for the destitute Hummel family. However, when their baby falls ill with scarlet fever, Beth catches the disease as well and eventually passes away due to complications from her illness. Beth is an accomplished pianist and can often be found wearing sweet pink hues.
Laurie from Little Women
In Little Women, Theodore Laurence (better known as Laurie, and played by Timothee Chalamet) is Jo March’s best friend and would-be suitor. Quite rich and rather spoiled, he grows into an immature man after being turned down by Jo, though he eventually marries her youngest sister Amy after the two spend time together in France. Laurie’s clothing is expensive and fine, though he and Jo often share clothes in their childhood, which can sometimes leave him looking a bit haphazard.
Amy March from Little Women
Amy March (played by Florence Pugh) is the youngest of the March sisters in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Amy is often immature, but also a talented artist who eventually travels to France with her Aunt March to pursue an education in painting before unexpectedly marrying Jo’s longtime friend and once admirer Laurie. After she travels to France, Amy adopts a more refined style including rich blue hues and intricate accessories such as fascinators and fur wraps.
Meg March from Little Women
Meg March (played by Emma Watson) is the eldest daughter of the March family in Little Women. As such, she is the only one of the children who remembers what their family life was like before they lost their fortune, which means she has more of a taste for extravagance and indulgence than her sister Jo. Meg marries sensibly for love, but not before spending much of her time putting on plays with her sisters and attending dances and balls in the most fashionable dresses she can afford (or borrow, in the case of her luxurious pink satin ballgown).
Jo March from Little Women
Jo March (played by Saoirse Ronan) is the main character in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. The latest adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel shows Jo’s journey from young girl to published author. Jo is fierce and outspoken, with a stubborn streak to match, and her clothing is a mix of men’s and women’s fashions from the Civil War era, including a pair of pants worn under her skirt, which makes it easier to run home after speaking with her publisher.
