Oliver Putnam from Only Murders in the Building

Oliver Putnam (played by Martin Short) is one of the three main characters in the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.  A long-time New York City director, Oliver has an outlandish personality, his love for scarves matched only by his affinity for dips.  Along with Charles and Mabel, two of his neighbors, and fellow true-crime junkies, Oliver sets out to solve a murder in his apartment building, the iconic Arconia.  Often seen with a cellphone in hand to record spur-of-the-moment commentary, Oliver’s character is almost as colorful as his wardrobe.  When recreating his look, focus on layering dressy clothes with fabulous coats and silk scarves.

Walter Thrombey from Knives Out

Walt Thrombey (played by Michael Shannon) is the youngest of Harlan Thrombey’s children, and is the head of his prolific father’s publishing company, responsible for distributing the mystery writer’s books. Walt and his father argue constantly over selling the rights to Harlan’s work for use on other platforms. Walt’s clothing is relatively plain, relying on a drab color palette. Throughout the film, he uses a cane because his left foot is in a walking boot.

Joni Thrombey from Knives Out

Joni Thrombey (played by Toni Collette) is the widow of Harlan Thrombey’s late son Neil and mother of Megan. As a lifestyle guru and social influencer, Joni’s style is punctuated by flowing tops and trendy accessories. Her entire look is soft and ethereal, including her long hair and frosted lips.

Ransom Drysdale from Knives Out

Hugh “Ransom” Drysdale from Knives Out

Hugh “Ransom” Drysdale (played by Chris Evans) is considered spoiled even by his own family’s standards. An unmotivated playboy, he befriends Marta Cabrera only to reveal that he has his own ulterior motives for doing so. The most memorable pieces of Ransom’s outfit are his cozy wool sweater and bold patterned scarf.

Marta Cabrera from Knives Out

Marta Cabrera (played by Ana de Armas) is Harlan Thrombey’s caretaker and friend. Marta is dressed to face the chilly New England weather, with plenty of layers and a colorful handmade scarf. The most important piece of her wardrobe, however, may be her pristine white shoes, which tell their own story as the movie unfolds.

Hildegarde Schmidt

In Murder on the Orient Express, Hildegarde Schmidt (Olivia Coleman) is the loyal maid to Princess Dragomiroff, and the former cook for the Armstrong household. Her travels on the Orient Express are business, so her wardrobe is plain and she wears few accessories.

Mary Debenham

Mary Debenham (Daisy Ridley) is an Englishwoman aboard the Orient Express. She was a governess in the Armstrong household, as well as Colonel Armstrong’s lover, so she is one of Hercule Poirot’s main suspects. Like her calm and collected demeanor, her clothing is modest and without flash.

Hector MacQueen

In Murder on the Orient Express, Hector MacQueen (Josh Gad) is the humble and likeable personal assistant of the fraudulent art dealer, Ratchett. Compared to the flashy and extravagant fashion of Ratchett, MacQueen’s wardrobe is understated and drab, with a hint of 1930’s gangster.

Count Andrenyi

In the 2017 adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express, Count Andrenyi (Sergei Polunin) is the husband of Countess Andrenyi, who travels in luxury on a Hungarian diplomatic passport. His wardrobe is extravagant and upscale, compared to the other passengers, and he’s fiercely protective of his wife.

Gerhard Hardman

In the 2017 adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express, Gerhard Hardman (Willem Dafoe) is a stern German professor who is suspicious of his fellow passengers aboard the Orient Express.
