Minerva McGonagall is a character in the Harry Potter book and movie series. She is a professor at Hogwarts as well as the head of the Gryffindor house. She teaches Transfiguration, which she has a talent for as an Animagus, as she can transfigure into a tabby cat. Minerva is a stern instructor, but she genuinely cares about the well being of her students. As a former Gryffindor student, she values courage and bravery above all else, and isn't afraid to deduct points from her own house when its necessary. Her wisdom, intelligence, and leadership skills make her perhaps the most respected professor at Hogwarts alongside Dumbledore. In the movie adaptation, Dame Maggie Smith plays this role.
