Professor Sada from Pokémon Scarlet
Professor Sada is a character from the video game Pokémon Scarlet. Alongside her husband Professor Turo, she serves as a main antagonist of the game. She is the primary professor at Naranja Academy. Professor Sada wears a fur-trimmed lab coat over a pair of orange shorts and a matching cropped tank top. She also dons a pair of orange leg warmers and brown sandals. To DIY her fringed attire, take a pair of scissors to an orange tank and shorts. An orange necklace with a shark’s tooth or a multi-tooth necklace without orange may suit your needs, depending on your preference. Likewise, Professor Sada’s belt can be achieved with two different waist chains, one in orange and one with dangling shells. To cap off her accessories, add some orange to your hair and nails, as well as a bangle bracelet. If you have a hot glue gun, you can add light pink fur to the collar of her coat. Otherwise, some clever tucking of a faux fur scarf can achieve a similar look.
Diane Foxington’s Goodness Gala Dress from The Bad Guys
Diane Foxington (voiced by Zazie Beetz) is the Governor of California in the animated feature film The Bad Guys. While Governor Foxington typically dons a suit while at work, there are a few occasions in the film when she gets to dress up, including when she attends the Goodness Gala where she dances with Mr. Wolf. At the Gala, Governor Foxington wears a blue pantsuit/skirt combination, silver heels, and glittering jewelry. When recreating the look, you can decide whether you’d like to also wear an orange bodysuit underneath to emulate her orange fox fur. Likewise, you may decide just a headband with ears is enough to get your vulpine intentions across. Otherwise, a mask for your face can be used instead.
Harper Spiller from The White Lotus
Harper Spiller (Aubrey Plaza) is a character in The White Lotus. She is a straight-laced lawyer who first appears in season 2. Harper accompanies her husband Ethan to Sicily so he can reconnect with his college roommate Cameron, who brought his wife along as well. A rift forms between the couple when her husband thinks she judges their new friends too harshly. Harper’s powder blue dress — and the scene itself — is a nod to Monica Vitti in the 1960 Italian film L’Avventura.
Lady Jessica from Dune
Lady Jessica (played by Rebecca Ferguson) is the mother of Paul Atreides in Dune. Lady Jessica and her son must flee their home and try to survive by seeking refuge with the Fremen of Arrakis. Lady Jessica wears a plethora of luxurious clothing suiting her status as the wife of a Duke. One of her most memorable costumes is a gold ensemble complete with a long train and body chains. To recreate her appearance, don a gold face chain and layer a rhinestone mesh long-sleeve shirt under a dress, with a gold bib necklace over top. A sheer gold scar will complete the look. Some of Lady Jessica’s other costumes include an elegant red gown paired with a simple gold finger chain, and her dark cloak worn when interacting with others in the Bene Gesserit sect of which she is a part.
Beast from Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus
Beast (voiced in Japanese by Yuko Kaida and in English by Tia Ballard) is part of Noah’s Ark Circus in the anime/manga Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler, in the Book of Circus episode set.
She is one of the main first-string members in the circus, and specializes in the animal taming portion of the show, along with her pet tiger, Betty. She’s known the rest of the members of the first-string since she was young and is very close with them.
Beast has black ringlet-curled bob cut hair, red eyes, and theatrical black and red makeup. The outfit we usually see her in is a performers suit, very black and shiny and strappy, with lots of red flowing accents, including a red hairband with a large floral detail on top. She also has mesh gloves and stockings, topped with a diamond pattern, and black shin-high stiletto boots.
Junker Queen from Overwatch
The Junker Queen (voiced by Leah De Niese) is a tank hero in the Overwatch game series. She is a brawler who thrives in close combat situations. The Junker Queen has a striking look, with a blue mohawk and a costume designed to show off her muscular physique. To recreate her look, you won’t want to be to attached to any of the clothing used, as some of it may need to be tattered or altered to suit her style. Start with a black sports bra and cut-off shorts. You’ll want to shred a graphic print top with a skull on it to be as itty bitty as possible, as well as cut one leg off a pair of leggings while tearing holes in the side you do where. Then, you can add the red glove and epaulets to your left arm before adorning your shoulder armor. A studded gladiator skirt, red sash, and thigh-high boots will help pull the look together, and if you’re looking to add some studs to the boots or other parts of your costume, a rivet set can help you customize your pieces.
Chani Kynes from Dune
Chani Kynes (played by Zendaya) is a Fremen from the planet of Arrakis in the sci-fi movie Dune. Chani’s people have lost their lands to colonizers in search of spice melenge, and she appears in visions had by Paul Atreides long before they meet. Chani’s primary attire consists of a stillsuit, designed to help a person survive the difficult climate of Arrakis by recycling sweat and tears into drinking water. You can make your own stillsuit using padded tactical pants and gloves, as well as a motorcycle or paintball jacket. Your scarf can help strategically cover the parts of the jacket that don’t match the original as well. In Paul’s visions, Chani often wears a long white robe or dress. One of the Fremen’s defining features are their bright blue eyes, a side effect of long-term exposure to spice. If you plan to wear blue contacts as part of your costume, it’s best to have yourself fitted by an eye doctor to make sure you have the right size and they don’t cause any damage.
Kiriko from Overwatch
Kiriko (voiced by Sally Amaki) is a support hero in the Overwatch game series. Kiriko uses kunai as a weapon and has healing abilities, and is aided by a kitsune spirit, which heavily influences her design. When searching for a costume, there are several full cosplay outfits available for purchase if you’re willing to shell out for the convenience of getting everything together at once. Otherwise, you can save money if you’re willing to get a little creative by layering a skirt over leggings paired with a short-sleeved top. (Cut the front panel of the skirt for an even closer match.) You’ll also need a wig, kitsune-inspired headband, fingerless gloves, and red high tops to complete the look.
Maudie Miller from The InBESTigators
Maudie Miller (played by Anna Cooke) is the protagonist of Netflix’s The InBESTigators. When Maudie meets Ezra Banks, the two decide to create a detective agency with fellow classmates Ava Andrikides and Kyle Kimson in order to solve mysteries at school and in their neighborhood. Maudie wears many different outfits throughout the series, but if you want to dress as her, you can’t go wrong with a pinafore dress over a long-sleeved shirt, as she dons similar outfits on several occasions. Such instances include a blue corduroy pinafore she wears over patterned leggings and a striped shirt, paired with brown booties. To really drive home her P.I. aspirations, you could also add a trench coat.
Doll (Performance Dress) from Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus
This is a follow-up article to the previous Doll one I did, but this one will be covering her performance outfit. If you would like to read up on how to make her Freckles look, it’s linked here!
I included the wig and scar makeup used in the prior tutorial, but you can’t see them past the headpiece usually, so that’s optional if you want to use them or not. This outfit is a lot more showy than her civilian outfit, mostly capitalizing on a rose motif. The dress is puffed up with a white rose petticoat trim, the headdress is comprised of white roses, and the rest of her accessories also mirror that theme. She emulates almost a ballet dancer stylized doll, while doing her tightrope balancing act.
For the parasol you may need to paint the handle if you want it to be completely accurate, and for the tights I was unable to find a pair split exactly in that style, so I included two pairs of long socks, please just use one from each to have the same effect.
