Carbon Costume

In the new comedy/horror film Dream Scenario directed by Kristoffer Borgli, Nicolas Cage plays a character named Paul Matthews. Paul’s life is suddenly changed when he begins to appear in millions of strangers dreams. He has to cope and navigate life with his newfound fame and recognition.

Paul Matthews is an average family man. He wears layers like his green puffer jacket with a fur hood, a brown half-zip sweater, and a blue shirt. He pairs this with his glasses, blue denim jeans, and brown boots, creating a layered and recognizable silhouette.

Jo is a character from the film Showing Up, and is played by Hong Chau. Showing Up follows an introverted art student and a sculptor named Lizzy, who is preparing for her exhibition as she struggles with finding balance with her creative work and everyday struggles, and the unexpected friend she finds in a pigeon she nurses back to health. Jo is also an art student working on an exhibition, but she is very accomplished and extroverted.

Jo dresses in more saturated colors with lots of blues, like her costume on the tire swing with blue jeans, a blue sweatshirt, yellow bandana, and crocs. At Lizzy’s art exhibit she wears a little more of a sophisticated or mature deeper blue maxi dress.

Hae Sung is a character from the romance-drama film Past Lives, and is played by Teo Yoo. Past Lives follows two childhood friends named Hae Sung and Nora who were separated when Nora’s family emigrated from South Korea. For a week they are reunited as they contemplate what life could’ve been if different choices were made.

The costumes in this film are simple ones but intentional. To dress like Hae Sung, stick to a blue color palette, button down shirts, and different colored pants or jeans, like his maroon jeans. He also carries a backpack and wears sneakers.

Lizzy is the protagonist in the film Showing Up, and is played by Michelle Williams. Lizzy’s costumes match her personality perfectly and are just like those of an art student. They feature very soft and muted colors, like her look with her canvas apron, blue shirt and khaki skirt. For her exhibition she dresses up more with a brown skirt and printed blouse. If you’re wearing this as a costume, taking a pigeon stuffed animal or prop and carrying it in a box could be a fun addition.

Nora is a character from the romance-drama film Past Lives, and is played by Greta Lee. In The Witch (The VVitch), Thomasin and Caleb are in the forest when a hare frightens their horse and their dog Fowler runs off. Young Caleb eventually finds Fowler’s dead body. Nearby in a thicket emerges a beautiful young woman dressed in a bright red cloak… but barefoot with disheveled clothes underneath. She seduces Caleb and gives him a kiss, then pulls him into her, with a haggard arm that reveals her true nature as an old witch.

In The Witch (or The VVitch), Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy) is eldest daughter of a family that is banished from a New England Puritan settlement. The family must set up a homestead in the isolated wilderness, but a malevolent spirit in the woods around them, which they suspect is a witch, begins to curse them. Blaming Thomasin, her parents make plans to send her away to serve another family.

The new 2023 biopic film Priscilla follows Priscilla Presley’s life and her relationship with Elvis Presley. The film is directed by Sofia Coppola and is an adaptation of Priscilla’s book Elvis and Me. In this film, Priscilla is played by Cailee Spaeny along side Jacob Elordi who plays Elvis Presley.

Priscilla has an iconic 1960s style that is perfectly re-created in the costumes in this film. She wears lots of feminine pieces like dresses and sweaters with bow details. She also has an iconic hair and makeup style. When Elvis takes control of her style we see this come to life with dark bold eyeliner and dark hair with lots of volume.
