Calliope Burns from First Kill

Calliope “Cal” Burns (Imani Lewis) is a main character in Netflix’s First Kill. Based on the short story by V.E. Schwab, the plot centers on two enemies: Calliope and Juliette. As the title suggests, each must carry out their first kill — Calliope must kill her first monster and Juliette must feed from her first victim — but they fall for each other instead. Cal comes from a family of hunters, whose mission is to eradicate monsters. Cal senses Juliette is a vampire and uses her keen investigation skills to test the theory with a silver bracelet. But growing closer to Juliette makes her realize not all monsters are evil, like she was raised to believe. She shows tenacity by defending and seeing her despite her family’s warnings. Her style is more trendy, often featuring athletic wear to reflect her hunter training.

Peter Vincent from Fright Night (2011)

Peter Vincent (played to perfection by David Tennant) is a big time magician and alleged vampire expert in the 2011 reboot of Fright Night. Rather than the more classic vibe of the original Peter Vincent (who was likely named after veteran classic horror movie actor Vincent Price), Tennant’s Price is more like the stage magicians made popular in Vegas and on late night programming in the early 2000’s.

Tennant’s Price dresses in black leather and tight t-shirts from metal bands he likes. This includes leather boots, pants, and a long leather duster. He wears his dark hair long and favors a well-trimmed goatee over the clean shaven look of the original Vincent Price.

Edgar Frog from The Lost Boys

Edgar Frog from The Lost Boys

Edgar Frog (played by Corey Feldman) is one of two brothers that help run their family’s comic shop in Santa Cruz, California. Of course that’s just their day job. They’re monster hunters that specialize in vampires. They’ve learned every trick in the book. The comic book, that is. It seems to be enough, though. They face down the most dangerous vampires in Santa Cruz and live to tell the tale!

The first time the audience meets Edgar he’ in a now-iconic outfit: a camouflage t-shirt, red headband, and the distressed jeans that were very common in the late ’80s (the movie came out in 1987). It’s a very comfortable costume as well as easily recognized, so long as you have Edgar’s feathered hair held back with a strip of red fabric. If you don’t have a pair of distressed jeans you can get the look with a new pair and a tutorial like this one.

For added affect you can also carry around a few wooden stakes. Just in case Edgar’s reputation precedes you!

Richter Belmont from Castlevania

Richter Belmont from Castlevania

Richter Belmont (voiced in the English games by David Vincent and the Japanese by Kiyoyuki Yanda) is the bane of Dracula’s existence. Well one of them anyway. A vampire hunter from a long line of them, Belmont wields the Sacred Whip in his efforts to rid the world of evil.

There are several variations on Belmont’s costume. This write-up will focus on the one pictured above.  To start you’ll want a long blue military coat. You’ll have to cuff the sleeves and likely pin them in place so they don’t unroll while you’re wearing the costume. You’ll also need long black gloves and a pair of white pants. Finish it off with a bandolier, a brown wig, brown pirate boots, and – of course – the Scared Whip!
