Cinna from The Hunger Games

“I’m still betting on you, girl on fire.” Cinna is a character in The Hunger Games trilogy. He is the stylist for Katniss Everdeen during the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, and recognizable by his gold eyeliner. While a resident of the Capitol, he was secretly part of the uprising. Cinna created the motifs of “the girl on fire” and “the mockingjay” to influence his designs for Katniss, whom Effie Trinket called his muse. As they say farewell in the Launch Room, he gets dragged away and beaten by the Peacekeepers, and it’s believed he was murdered during interrogation. Still, his designs live on to inspire the rebellion. In the movies, rockstar Lenny Kravitz portrays Cinna.

Primrose Everdeen

Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields) is a minor character in The Hunger Games trilogy. She is twelve years old, affectionately called “Prim” and “Little Duck” by her older sister, Katniss. But whereas Katniss is prickly, Primrose is gentle. Her talent doesn’t lie within hunting or archery, but healing. She works alongside their mother as a nurse, and she especially loves caring for animals — she has a cat named Buttercup and a goat named Lady.  Despite their differences, the two sisters love each other dearly, to the point where Katniss volunteers as tribute when Effie Trinket picks Prim to participate in the 74th Hunger Games. Before Katniss leaves, Prim gives her the famous mockingjay pin. She had been training to become a doctor, but her life was cut short by a secondary explosion. Peeta Mellark plants primroses outside of Victor’s Village in memoriam.

Peeta Mellark

Peeta Mellark is a central character in The Hunger Games literary and cinematic universe. He is a baker from District 12. At the Reaping, he gets selected to participate in the 74th annual Hunger Games alongside Katniss Everdeen.  She remembers Peeta giving her a loaf of burnt bread that saved her family from starvation. During training, Peeta proves to be a master of camouflage. Katniss and Peeta partake in a “star-crossed lovers” narrative, which results in favoritism and sponsorship from the Capitol. Peeta finds this difficult because he actually likes her, so he doubts whether she likes him back, or is just playing up for the camera. As the final tributes, they almost commit suicide together, but then they’re both declared the winners. Peeta returns to the Arena again with Katniss for the Quarter Quell. While Katniss gets rescued by the Rebellion, Peeta gets captured by the Capitol. They brainwash him into calling a cease fire and thinking Katniss is the enemy. The rebels save Peeta and he slowly regains control of his memory. In the epilogue, he resides in Victor’s Village, where he is married to Katniss and have two children together. Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta in the movie adaptations.

Effie Trinket

Panem District 3 Citizen

In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, District 3, which is considered an upper-middle class district, serves as the technology district for all of Panem. They, like the other districts, are still held under the president’s regime. Smart and knowledgeable, the citizens of District 3 were once the rebels, who started the first uprising.

Panem District 9 Citizen

In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, the citizens of District 9, the grain district, work hard to provide food for all of Panem. They too struggle, as do the other districts, to stay alive and feed their families. Ironic, isn’t it?

Panem District 12 Citizen

In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Panem’s District 12 citizens are miners. They’re poor, hungry, hard working, and more than anything, they want a way out of Panem’s authoritarian regime. Can their hero, Katniss Everdeen, save everyone?

Katniss Everdeen

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is a 16-year-old girl who volunteers in place of her younger sister for the Hunger Games. She hails from District 12, a poor, desolate coal-mining region that has sharpened her hunting and survival skills.
