Thea Preston (Samara Weaving) is the daughter of Wyld Stallyns rocker Bill S. Preston, cowriter-to-be of the greatest song of all time. Although her father and his best friend Ted Logan have yet to actually accomplish this feat, this hasn’t stopped Thea from inheriting her father’s musical talent (and then some, probably from her mother’s side) and penchant for unusual fashion.

Valkyrie Cain is Skulduggery Pleasant‘s young protege in elemental magic. Born Stephanie Edgley to a fairly average Irish family, she took on a new name inspired by the phrase “raising Cain” (making trouble). She accompanies her mentor throughout an ongoing series of adventures (chronicled faithfully by the incomparable author Derek Landy), spanning her early adolescence through adulthood. Her costume is specially made by a magical tailor who designed it to be highly durable and protective — a necessity in Valkyrie’s field.

Billie Preston (Brigette Lundy Payne) is the daughter of legendary rockstar-in-the-making, Ted “Theodore” Logan, one of the two Great Ones regarded by future music listeners as the creators of the greatest song of all time. Rewind to the present: Billie’s father still hasn’t mastered his musical craft, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t passed down some semblance of talent (combined with an eclectic fashion sense) to his daughter.

Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy tells the story of a heroic female protagonist who overthrows thousands of years of oppression, social class divides, and magical foes. Set in a feudal, post-apocalyptic world, Vin is the illegitimate offspring of an oppressive nobleman and a ska (slave class) woman. Such unions are forbidden in Vin’s society, because the children are able to develop unearthly Allomantic superpowers (which they can access by ingesting certain metals). Usually, an Allomancer will have one unusual ability; but a Mistborn, like Vin, possesses them all. On the Mistborn trilogy book covers, Vin wears all-black underneath her signature gray mist-cloak, and carries two obsidian daggers.
