Strawberry Shortcake from Berry Bitty Adventures
Strawberry Shortcake has been a childhood staple since her introduction in the 1980s. Her Berry Bitty line was part of the 2009 relaunch and led not only to new toys and movies but to a whole new look for Strawberry Shortcake and her friends. In this version, Strawberry Shortcake has traded her bonnet for a cap and her dress for a skirt, top, and striped tights.
Most of the costume is easy to put together, but the line was short-lived and finding the hate premade is next to impossible. Thankfully, it is fairly easy to recreate. All you need is a pink newsboy cap, some green paint for the bill, and pink felt dots to cut into ovals for the strawberry seeds. A white ribbon just above the bill of the hat completes the look. As long as you have a glue gun and some extra time you can make your own cap to finish off this look!
Fievel from An American Tail
Adventurous and inquisitive Fievel Mousekewitz meets challenges with courage in An American Tail. Fievel is a middle child. His journey begins with his family leaving his home country, Russia, to move to America. After a bad storm, Fievel arrives in New York separated from his family, and is on his own. The quest to find his family begins, as he tries to understand the new landscape of America.
Jenny from Monster House
Jenny is a snarky preppy girl with a sense of humor. She is brave, but equally as suspicious of Mr. Nebbercracker’s house as her friends, DJ and Chowder. Well, they weren’t her friends until they save her from being devoured by the house. She plots with DJ and Chowder on what to do about the creepy building in Monster House.
Luke Triton from Professor Layton
Luke Triton is a fixture of the Professor Layton game series, always standing by the eponymous professor’s side as he leaves no puzzle unsolved! As Professor Layton’s self-proclaimed apprentice, young Luke dives deep into learning about detective work and what it means to be a true gentleman. Luke’s outfit from the first trilogy of Layton mysteries emphasizes his youthfulness, with drooping suspenders and a retro newsboy cap. The addition of a crossbody bag makes this costume especially convention-friendly!
DJ from Monster House
Dustin James “DJ” Walters (voiced by Mitchel Musso) can’t ignore that the house across the street is alive and evil. He uses his handy telescope to keep an eye on the house and Mr. Nebbercracker, the owner. Everyone seems to think DJ is crazy, except his friends Chowder and Jenny. The trio put their heads together and hatch a plan in Monster House.
Professor Hershel Layton from the Professor Layton Series
Professor Hershel Layton’s past is shrouded in plenty of mystery, but what we know for sure about him is that he personifies true gentlemanliness – a trait he tries to reinforce in his young apprentice and assistant, Luke Triton. Whether he’s solving puzzles (“A true gentleman leaves no puzzle unsolved!”) or exploring unusual locales across Europe, Professor Layton can rarely be found without his signature top hat and suit. You, too, can now dress like a true gentleman!
Yato from Noragami
“Toss a coin to your wannabe god of fortune, happiness, and war,” says nobody ever, but that doesn’t stop Yato from giving his aspiration the old college try. This Noragami protagonist’s sense of fashion is contemporary for the time – in the present day, he sports a comfortable tracksuit, practical boots, and a funky gray-blue scarf (that’s supposedly an old bath towel). We eventually learn that Yato’s scared stiff that everyone will forget him, so let’s memorialize this character by re-creating his most popular outfit.

Yi from Abominable
Yi (voiced by Chloe Bennet) is very focused on fulfilling the dream she and her father had of traveling while playing music. After Yi’s father passes, she distances herself from her family and friends. One day she meets a yeti named Everest, and becomes determined to help Everest get home. She goes on a long journey with her friend Peng and his cousin Jin to get the yeti home safely. Yi faces her feelings about her father’s passing, and realizes the importance of family and friends.
Blue Zircon from Steven Universe
Blue Zircon is a minor character in the popular Cartoon Network show, Steven Universe. The function of a Zircon is to act as legal counsel. In the presence of the Diamonds, Zircons abandon logical thinking and grow anxious, but they still try to provide sound advice for their clients. Blue Zircon in particular serves as Steven’s defense attorney during his trial on Homeworld. You can use a teasing comb and hair gel to style the wig to resemble the character. Remove the gold gem on the jabot and hot glue a blue rhinestone in its place.
