Betty Ross
Comics are almost infamous for giving one character so many variations that it can be hard to keep up and Betty Ross is no exception to the rule. Originally created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, she has become The Harpy and Red She-Hulk in multiple timelines and runs. Liv Tyler and Jennifer have both played her on the big screen, bringing to life the scientist Betty began her time as in Marvel. All the differences can make it hard to pick just one, but they have a few factors in common that makes it easier to choose!
If you’re going for Betty’s human look, the cosplay is pretty straightforward and uses pieces that you can either pull from your closet or reuse in other costumes. Start with a brown wig, then grab a button down shirt, a pair of jeans, and some heeled boots. You can also finish off the look with a white lab coat.
Red She-Hulk takes a different route. You’ll have to start with red body paint and a black wig with a red streak clipped in. The costume itself is a black zip up top, black pants, and the same black boots a before. There aren’t a lot of pieces but the red paint will take time to apply. Finish off her look with black lipstick and you are the mighty Red She-Hulk.
Moon Knight
Moon Knight, aka Marc Spector, is a character in the Marvel comics. Marc was a former mercenary who stumbled upon archeological dig in Egypt. When his employer turns against his fellow mercenaries, intending to loot the site for profit, he nearly kills Marc. As he lay dying, the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu, approached him and offered him a second life as his avatar on Earth. Resurrected with superhuman abilities, he returns to the United States and becomes the crimefighter known as Moon Knight. He creates different identities to cover up his past as a mercenary. He is an expert detective and skilled in martial arts. Moon Knight will receive his own series on Disney+, with Oscar Isaac starring as the title vigilante.
Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)
Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, is a character in the Marvel comics. She is a Pakistani-American superhero from New Jersey who has the power to enlarge and stretch her body. She possesses dormant Inhuman lineage activated by the Terrigen Bomb, and her powers were lated activated by a similar mist. Young and enthusiastic, Kamala is a huge fan of superheroes, especially Carol Danvers. She goes onto take the mantle as the newest Ms. Marvel. Mark tries to win Amber back on several occasions, eventually revealing his secret to her. But — she already figured out the identity on her own, proving her keen detective skills. Aside from being observant, Amber is altruistic, as shown with her volunteer work at the community kitchen. She even inspires Eve to use her powers to start really helping the world. Aunt May
Maybelle Reilly – better known as Aunt May or May Parker – is Peter Parker’s surrogate mother. Whether she knows about his superhero alterego Spider-Man or not, she worries about her boy. And she knows better than anyone the toll a good deed can take. But just like she taught Peter, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do the right thing.
Aunt May has had a lot of looks over the year (and that’s without the MCU’s fashion-forward take on Aunt May). For this write-up we’re going for something in between the classic “granny” look from the original comics and the more updated look she has today.
For this iteration of Aunt May you’ll want a short white wig, long purple cardigan, a dusky pink knee-length skirt, and a yellow undershirt. Finish off the look with purple flats and pearl earrings and you’re set!
Hippolyta
Hippolyta wasn’t always a queen. Before the gods took pity on her forlorn soul she was a mortal cavewoman. Her mate murdered her and the gods plucked her soul from the Underworld to create the Queen of the Amazons. Her sister Amazons were women who also suffered violence at the hands of men, ultimately leading them to the secret and secluded island where they remained until their Princess Diana left to join the wider world to become Wonder Woman.
Hippolyta has had several different looks over the years but this one is closer to her classic comic appearance. Long dark hair worn loose around her shoulders, a gown of deep purple accented by a gold belt, gold sandals, silver bracers, and a small crown atop her head.
Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)
Jessica Drew may seem like just another member of the Spider family. But she is the original Spider-Woman, the mother of Gerry Drew (the future Spider-Boy, Spider-Man, and ‘The Spider’). But she wasn’t always a hero. Far from it, Drew began her career with Hydra. She was their assassin until she saw the error of her ways and eventually defected to join SWORD, SHIELD, and the Avengers.
Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman has had several looks over the years. Arguably one of her most iconic is this one: a red and yellow bodysuit, yellow boots, yellow gloves, and her dark hair worn long and loose. It might not be the most tactical look she’s had but it’s certainly one of the most glamorous!
Beast Boy
Beast Boy is a character from the DC Comics. His real name is Garfield Logan but he’s also used the alias Changeling. Beast Boy is a shapeshifter who can transform into any animal. He has a playful personality and a not so secret crush on Raven. While he currently stars in Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans with a purple and black suit, this is his original comic design. This version requires a bit crafting, but you don’t need to be a superhero to do it! Cut the sides and half the width of the arms off the white sports shirt to resemble the suit design. Then sew or hot glue it onto the red unitard. Cut a square hole in the shorts right at your belly button. You can use hair gel and holding spray to spike up the wig.
Albert Pratt / The Atom
Albert Pratt known by superhero alias The Atom was a small but mighty Golden Age hero who premiered in DC Comics in the 1940s. Al was a scientist and athlete proficient in hand-to-hand combat. His character later went on to acquire atomic strength (which coincided with a modernized costume that covered more skin than the original bare-legged version). While he has undergone several iterations, most of his costumes include bright yellow, blue, and red, making him a colorful choice for those interested in a bold look.
Mister Fantastic
Mister Fantastic, aka Reed Richards, is the leader of the Fantastic Four. With an incredible knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics among other many sciences, he is credited as the smartest character in the Marvel universe. In fact, he invented the very spacecraft that became exposed to the radiation which gave the team their powers. Now he has the ability to stretch his limbs into any shape. Mister Fantastic acts as a close friend and mentor to the Fantastic Four. Invisible Woman, aka Sue Storm, is his wife, which makes Human Torch, Johnny Storm, his brother-in-law.
