Carbon Costume

Adora, aka She-Ra, is the main character in Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In the eighth episode, she receives an invitation to Princess Prom, which occurs once every decade. Bow explains the event is a ball where all the princesses of Etheria meet and party. Their goal is to recruit the host, Frosta, to join the princess alliance. Glimmer teaches Adora princess etiquette and gives her a makeover for the event. The hair accessory is actually a flower comb pin, as seen in this picture of the back.

Shang-Chi (played by Simu Liu) is the main character in the Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.  Alongside his friend Katy and his sister Xialing, Shang-Chi must stop an ancient evil from being released by his father, the leader of the Ten Rings organization.  Shang-Chi’s hero uniform consists of a red and black shirt and bo staff made of dragon scales.  To recreate the look of his bo, a wooden staff can be embellished with red tape at the ends to mimic the color of the dragon scales.  If you’d like to imitate the appearance of Shang-Chi wielding the Ten Rings, it can be difficult to find replicas to wear.  However, some generic rubber bracelets can help evoke the same feel, especially if you’re feeling crafty enough to take a little paint to them to make them look more like the weapons from the film.

In Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet, Vanellope Von Schweetz encounters her fellow Disney princesses. Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen) wears pajamas for the slumber party featuring a red letterman jacket and black jeans. The gold accents on the jacket are actually Mushu! Princess Elena Castillo Flores is the eponymous star of the Disney Junior show, Elena of Avalor. After saving the magical kingdom of Avalor, she must learn how to reign as its new princess. Voiced by Aimee Carrero, Elena is the first Latina princess in Disney history.

Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) is a character in Birds of Prey. She quits the Gotham City Police Department to take down Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Mutual interests lead to an alliance with Harley Quinn, Black Canary, and Huntress. Renee doesn’t care if anyone’s in her corner — she’ll pursue justice until the work is done. We included her graphic t-shirt for a more comedic cosplay.

Feng Min is a professional gamer from Dead by Daylight.  After burning out and falling into a string of substance abuse issues (accompanied by parents who never approved of her career), she found herself in the Realm of the Entity and is now focused on winning, no matter the cost.  Finding an exact match for Feng’s outfit would be almost impossible, but by choosing a printed athletic polo and using some matching fabric paint on the white contrast trim of a pair of black shorts, you can evoke the same feel.  If you’re not up for painting, a plain pair of black bike shorts would also suffice.

Tony “Smiley” Hogburn (played by Bobby Canavale) is a former NFL tight end and one of the guests at Tranquillum in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers.  Tony is a bristly persona with an addiction to painkillers.  While his relationship with Frances Welty is rocky from the start, the two slowly start to confide in one another at Masha Dmitrichenko‘s retreat.  Tony definitely prioritizes comfort over fashion, opting for gym-ready clothes paired with a utilitarian bucket hat to keep the sun off his face.

Frances Welty (played by Melissa McCarthy) is a famous romance novelist and one of the Nine Perfect Strangers who attend Masha Dmitrichenko‘s expensive Tranquillum retreat.  Frances finds herself at Tranquillum after suffering several personal and professional embarrassments, and while initially quite closed off, she soon grows close with a few of the other attendees including Tony Hogburn.  Frances wears many glamorously bohemian outfits and jumpsuits, so opt for light, flowy fabrics and don’t be afraid to layer different pieces together to achieve her look.

In Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet, Vanellope Von Schweetz encounters her fellow Disney princesses. Princess Jasmine (voiced by Linda Larkin) wears pajamas for the slumber party featuring a turquoise tank top and glittery blue leggings. The graphic on her top features the Genie‘s three fingers for three wishes. And as always, she’s accompanied by her pet tiger, Rajah. “Come sit with us tomorrow, it’ll be fetch!” Gretchen Wieners is a character in the Mean Girls musical. She is a part of the Plastics as the right-hand woman to Regina George. In “Meet The Plastics,”  Gretchen sings about how she will do anything to maintain Regina’s popularity. She loves to gossip, but she’s actually quite sweet. When Cady joins the Plastics, she doesn’t have ulterior motives. In the musical, Gretchen confides in Cady that because of the crumbling friendship with Regina, she’s lost all confidence in herself. This leads to her solo song “What Is Wrong With Me?” Ashley Park originated the role of Regina on Broadway until Krystina Alabado took her place.
