Kyle from “When Your Name is Kyle” by Trevor Wallace

If you’ve ever encountered a Kyle, or your name is Kyle, you’re aware of the meme. “Kyles” are the pseudonyms of skateboarding, Monster chugging boys with lots of pent up aggression. Now you can look like the version of Kyle from comedian Trevor Wallace’s viral video. Add a pair of black hi-top sneakers and you’re good to go. Optional accessories include a can of Monster Energy Drink, a can of AXE body spray, or a piece of drywall.

Xander Portmanteau from Cliche

When it comes to his looks, Xander Portmanteau embodies everything there is to love/hate about the strapping male leads of women’s fiction books. He’s the protagonist of a wish-fulfillment fantasy romance written by an awkward authoress, who fancies herself the princess lover of this roguish knight.

During the events of Cliche (written by myself and Aerin S. Grey), a pint-sized Xander emerges from the pages of his own novel to confront his author’s questionable plot choices, and prove that he has a mind of his own! In the “real” world, Xander stands barely taller than an action figure. Chased down lengthy halls by his author’s pet cat, Xander forms an unlikely alliance with a mouse in the wall named Bartholomew.

Gilderoy Lockhart HP Character

Gilderoy Lockhart

Gilderoy Lockhart is a character in the Harry Potter book and movie series. During his time as a Ravenclaw student, he received many prestigious awards, and he isn’t shy about letting everyone know it. After graduating Hogwarts, he became a celebrity in the wizarding world. In particular he wrote books about his encounters with magical creatures, such as Gadding with Ghouls and Travels with Trolls. When Dumbledore appoints Lockhart as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Hermione becomes smitten by his knowledge. Yet Harry and Ron (and most everyone else) find him obnoxious. Although there’s more to him than meets the eye: he tricked actual accomplished wizards into revealing their stories, and then erased their memories with Memory Charms so he could take all the credit. In the film adaptation, Kenneth Branagh plays this role.

Tricky from Subway Surfer

Tricky from Subway Surfers

Tricky is an unlockable character on the popular mobile game Subway Surfer. In technical terms, she was the first bonus character available to unlock after the game’s main character, Jake, pulled off enough achievements. The Subway Surfer expanded lore (such as the eponymous animated series) reveals that Tricky is the heiress to a family fortune, but she doesn’t let that get to her head or bar her from her favorite activities. Hence, the comfortable clothes and down-to-earth attitude.

Sarah Sanderson Hocus Pocus

Sarah Sanderson from Hocus Pocus

Amuck amuck amuck! Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) is an antagonist in Hocus Pocus. As the youngest of the Sanderson sisters, she is ditzy yet flirtatious. Her unique power is her siren like singing voice. Some makeup tutorials use dark purple lipstick but we went with red to match her sisters. We added fake spiders, her favorite snack, as they’re cheap and show commitment to the character! Just make sure to only chew, not swallow!

Jake Peralta Brooklyn Nine Nine

Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Noice! Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) is the main protagonist of the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He can be cocky and immature, but he is talented at what he does. He works as a NYPD detective stationed in Brooklyn’s 99th Precinct. He is friends with mostly everyone at the station and pursues a romantic relationship with fellow detective Amy Santiago. Follow this costume guide and you’ll be looking “cool cool cool cool cool cool.”

Disco Janet The Good Place

Disco Janet from The Good Place

“What it is, what it is!” Disco Janet is another iteration of Janet from The Good Place. Although no one knows their purpose or where they come from. Their void consists of a dance party with a nonstop record of 70s hits. When marbleized, they are trapped in a disco ball. Disco Janet gives Chidi a pair of roller skates, to which they say “solid.” We have only seen one Disco Janet in the series, which might imply there’s a Disco Place. Every iteration of Janet is played by D’Arcy Carden.

Carlton Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Carlton Banks from Fresh Prince of Bel Air

In the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Carlton Banks (Alfonso Ribeiro) is Will Smith’s rational yet cocky cousin. In spite of his wealth, he has little success with women. Sometimes his selfish attitude can clash with Will’s more laidback approach, but he’s still his best friend. His style is preppy and conservative, and you can’t go wrong with a cardigan and sweater vest. And of course patterned pants, as per the 90s. Once you’ve assembled your costume, do the Carlton dance!

Nagisa Shiota AC Character

Nagisa Shiota from Assassination Classroom

Nagisa Shiota is the main protagonist and narrator in the anime Assassination Classroom. Other students make fun of him for his androgynous appearance. He is calm, empathetic, and exceptionally observant of his surroundings. He pays close attention to Korosensei in Class 3E.  He is more reserved and shy, preferring to keep his thoughts to himself. Shiota is very insecure, often referring to as himself “invisible,” yet he has a real talent for assassination.

Craig Williams from Craig of the Creek

Craig Williams from Craig of the Creek

Craig Williams (voiced by Phillip Solomon) is as close to a leader as the kids in Craig of the Creek get. He is the brains behind the operation and for good reason. His imagination and intellect lead him on amazing adventures that his friends are happy to go along on. He can be a bit hardheaded about things. But his kind heart always smooth things over when he gets too set in his ways.

Cosplaying as Craig is fairly straight-forward. His creek outfit is his main outfit. It is a long-sleeved yellow shirt under a white zip-up vest with a hood. Jeans and white sneakers finish off the look. Sometimes he carries a teal duffel bag called “The Bag of Holding”, which is a nod to his highly fanciful and imaginative nature.
