Women

Princess Neptune from Sailor Moon

In Sailor Moon, Princess Neptune’s color scheme for her princess attire is very monochromatic, with everything in about the same tealy-blue shade as her hair. She wears it down, as usual, and has the symbol of neptune on her forehead in the same shade, with a matching ribbon around her neck and a similarly colored teardrop necklace worn below it.

Her dress itself is the same shade, and it falls in a low v-neck, with decorated golden adornments on the straps, and a loosely crossed midsection leading into a very long skirt.

Babette from White Noise

Babette is a character from the film White Noise by Noah Baumbach, and is played by Greta Gerwig. The film is based on the original 1985 novel by Don DeLillo. This story follows college professor Jack Gladney and his family as they’re faced with “The Airborne Toxic Event.” They’re forced to evacuate their home and ultimately face their fear of death throughout the film and we see how each of them cope with this in their own ways. Babette is a very kind character who is married to Jack and teaches classes to the elderly for work.

Babette wears very fitting outfits for a working 80s mom with lots of purple and blue pieces. She tends to wear jeans and high waisted, wide leg, and pleated dress pants that are rolled at the bottom to show her grey suede ankle boots. If you have “important hair” like Babette, this costume could be perfect for you!

Susie Swanson from Family Guy

Susie Swanson from Family Guy

Susie Swanson (voiced by Sir Patrick Stewart) is the youngest member of the Swanson family on the animated series Family Guy.  Susie’s mother Bonnie remained comically pregnant for many seasons before Susie joined the cast alongside father Joe and brother Kevin.  Susie is a baby, which means she is sometimes depicted in only a diaper.  The outfit she most frequently wears, however, consists of a mint green tank top and pink shorts.  Use a short blonde wig to style your hair, using a bow hair tie to secure it.  A pair of nude colored shoes can help imitate her barefoot appearance on the show.

Princess of Barkingburg from PAW Patrol

Princess of Barkingburg from PAW Patrol

In PAW Patrol, the Princess of Barkingburg (voiced by Caoimhe Judd) is a kind but naive girl. She has no idea that her pet puppy, Sweetie, is not so sweet. In the Mission PAW sub-series, Sweetie has evil plans to steal the princess’s crown and become queen for herself.

Mai Zenin from Jujutsu Kaisen

Mai (voiced in Japanese by Marina Inoue and in English by Laura Post) is a secondary character in the anime/manga Jujutsu Kaisen.

She is the twin sister of Maki Zenin, but goes to the Kyoto branch of Jujutsu High, instead of the Tokyo Branch like the others. She resents her sister for them having to go into the sorcerer life, and is quite rude to those around her in retaliation for her current role.

Mai has just above chin length dark green hair, and golden brown eyes. She wears a long sleeved version of the school’s uniform shirt in dark blue, low dropped pants in the same color, chocolate brown boots, and she carries around her gun to fight with.

Princess Mars from Sailor Moon

Mars has her usual hair cut and style for her princess look, but has a red mars symbol on her forehead, instead of the tiara.

She wears a red ribbon around her neck and a red teardrop necklace to accompany it. Her dress in this form is a two toned, v-neck sleeveless red dress, with a capelet on the back, and a pleated light red front piece.

Jean from Inside Llewyn Davis

Jean is a character played by Carey Mulligan from the film Inside Llewyn Davis, by Joel and Ethan Coen. Inside Llewyn Davis is set in 1960s New York City and follows a folk singer named Llewyn Davis who struggles to find success again in the music world. Jean is someone in Llewyn’s life that accuses him of being the father to her child, and he often goes to her and her husband for a place to stay or to borrow money. She is married to Jim, who she sings with at the Gaslight Cafe along with Troy Nelson. This trio is inspired by the group Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Jean along with the other characters, fit into their environment perfectly with the colors and textures of their costumes with lots of jackets and textured sweaters. The film is very bleak and muted, so you won’t find many brightly colored costumes. Jean sticks to sweaters in her wardrobe, like the two ribbed texture gray and orange ones, both with a turtleneck. The other sweater she wears in her apartment is a muted blue one, with a very brushed texture and not as thick as the two when she goes out. She also has an army-green coat with a plaid lining, which you can emphasize even more by layering a flannel shirt underneath it.

Scarlett Beauregarde from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Scarlett Beauregarde is a character from the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Tim Burton, and is played by Missi Pyle. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the 2005 version of the story that follows Charlie, a young boy that wins a tour of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Scarlett is the mother of Violet who also goes on the tour.

Scarlett’s look is always nearly identical to her daughter’s and they always match outfits. One of these is a bright pink track suit that she pairs with a pink blouse.

Nellie LaRoy from Babylon

Nellie LaRoy is played by Margot Robbie in the film Babylon, directed by Damien Chazelle. Babylon is a epic period drama set in 1920s Hollywood and how it went from silent pictures to having sound. In the film we follow Nellie LaRoy as she follows her dream of becoming a famous actress and once successful, learns about the dark side of the industry.

Nellie LaRoy’s Wardrobe is one that changes throughout the film as she becomes successful. We first see her in this iconic red outfit that looks like she could’ve put together herself. Recreate this with the full costume or put it together yourself with red light-weight scarves, red shorts, and fashion tape. Another costume that matches her wild personality are the overalls she wears after a party scene- just a dark wash denim pair of overalls with a wide leg. Finally, another great costume to recreate is the costume she wears on set during her first picture with sound. She wears a green and white preppy outfit with suspenders and a tie.

Marianne from Normal People

Marianne is a character from the series Normal People and is played by Daisy Edgar-Jones. The show is based off of the original book by Sally Rooney and is about Marianne and Connell who both live in a small Ireland town. They come from different backgrounds and are in and out of each others lives as they grow up and mature throughout the series.

Marianne has a style that changes a lot throughout the series as she gets older and finds herself. We start by seeing her in high school with a uniform, but as she goes to college and beyond that, we see her explore different styles as she is trying to find her own identity. As she gets older her costumes seem to fit her and her personality better, while other times we can see that she is trying new things that don’t really seem like herself. In college she dresses in vintage, colorful pieces that fits in with the cool crowd around her. When she visits Italy, she wears pieces that seem to fit her best and are much more simple like her black maxi dress.
