Deirdre Beaubeirdra from Everything Everywhere All at Once
Deirdre Beaubeirdra (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) is an IRS worker and sometimes antagonist in the film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Deirdre is a bit of a stick in the mud and puts pressure on Evelyn and Waymond Wang when she audits their laundromat. Deirdre becomes an enemy of Evelyn when another version from a different universe who is loyal to Jobu Tupaki jumps into her consciousness. Deirdre has a blunt haircut and wears a gold turtleneck and grey trousers with a yellow vest over top. To get the colors to match more closely, you can cut the arms off a yellow crochet cardigan.
Evelyn Wang from Everything Everywhere All at Once
Evelyn Wang (played by Michelle Yeoh) is the main character of the action-comedy film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Evelyn is the mother of Joy and wife of Waymond. Their family struggles to keep their laundromat afloat and while at a meeting with Deirdre Beaubeirdra, Evelyn is brought into a conflict against good and evil that spans multiple versions of the reality in which she exists. Evelyn wears multiple costumes throughout the multiverse (and the film), but her main outfit consists of a zip-up vest and floral print shirt, sweatpants, and maroon sneakers. During a pivotal moment in the film, she adheres a googly eye to the middle of her forehead.
Gawain from The Green Knight
Gawain and the Green Knight is a classic Arthurian tale. And like Arthur himself, the knights have been gaining new audiences as their tales are once again retold. Written for the screen by David Lowery and starring the incredible Dev Patel, the movie is billed as a fantasy retelling of an already fantastical tale. And one can only hope Gawain fares is well in the adaptation as in the original, green sash and all.
Gawain has a yellow cloak that can be reproduced with golden fabric, or a white capelet and Rit dye. Because this movie is stylized and not aimed at perfect historical accuracy, a set of fold-top leather boots (which are great in other cosplays) are also perfect for the costume, as well as a pair of black pants, a chain mail shirt, and a black tunic. A sword and scabbard can be slid into a a medieval belt and you’re ready for your own Arthurian adventure.
Maja from Midsommar
In Midsommar, Maja (played by Isabelle Grill) is a young woman who uses strange rituals and psychedelic drugs to seduce Dani’s boyfriend Christian in order to have sex with him and become pregnant. A very quiet girl, she is transformed after her encounter with Christian, wearing red lipstick and more brightly colored clothing to signify her fertility.

As she attempts to deal with her depression following the death of her family, she embarks on a trip to attend a midsummer celebration in Sweden with her boyfriend and his friends. As the commune becomes increasingly less welcoming and more terrifying, Dani finds herself pulled into a brutal ritual with no way to escape. Dani’s clothing changes significantly throughout the film, beginning with comfortable hiking clothes before she dons the embroidered dresses typical of women in the commune. Once she is chosen as May Queen, she is completely adorned with flowers from head to toe. The variety of costuming provides ample room for interpretation.
Charlie Graham from Hereditary
Charlie Graham (played by Milly Shapiro) is the sister of Peter and the daughter of Annie in Ari Aster’s horror film Hereditary. Charlie is a strange young girl with an affinity for preserving the heads of dead birds. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes apparent that her penchant for the weird and macabre is related to a far more sinister destiny. Charlie’s outfit consists primarily of a large, oversized orange sweatshirt, and you can certainly get creative with any props you include as part of your costume.
Annie Graham from Hereditary
In Ari Aster’s Hereditary, Annie Graham (played by Toni Collette) is the mother of Peter and Charlie. Annie has a history of mental health issues and a troubled past with her own mother, who is recently deceased. Following another death, Annie spirals into depression and fits of rage as dark secrets about her family are revealed. Howard Ratner from Uncut Gems
In Uncut Gems, Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler) is a New York City jewelry dealer and gambling addict. Ratner gets in over his head with loan sharks, and is forced to retrieve a rare and valuable black opal he purchased in order to pay back his debts. As you might expect from someone from the Diamond District, gold and diamonds feature heavily in Ratner’s outfit, including a fully iced out Furby necklace.
Peter Graham from Hereditary
Peter Graham (Alex Wolff) is a main character in Hereditary. He is a morosely withdrawn teenage pothead who begins to get signals from ghosts, to take on the aspects of someone who died. For this costume, don’t forget the nose bandage, which you can just make yourself with gauze and first-aid tape.
